When did Anuranium jump from 3 to 5 rescues ? I've only been away from the computer 48 hours !
Lord, I'm never going to see that T-shirt in december...
Yep, dumb luck strikes again. Was down in Eravate for some advertising, and checking in on a dubious CMDR down there when a call came in - In a system less than 20LY away. Just as I enter station to resupply limpets another call came in, only 6 jumps away.
STOP PRESS - FUEL RATS MAKE GALNET NEWS
This is awesome!
Now for the instancing troubles. Some of my thoughts and suggestions:
- First of all, when trying to wing up with a customer, send a text message and a voice comms request (no need to accept it) to him/her before the wing-invite. This has proven successful several times. I have no technical explanation for this other than it seems to "open the p2p channels".
- If you are unable to get into the instance where the customer is located, completely exit the game, both you and the customer. A previous wing, long travel distance or a long gaming session seems to increase the likelyhood of these kinds of failures. Often a complete client restart (not just to main menu) will solve this.
- Geographical real life position
may have some influence on wether or not you are able to connect to the customer. If multiple fuel rats on site and no-one is able to jump in to his/hers instance, let the fuel rat who is closest geographically create a wing with the customer and get in the instance. (Worked with Loetmichel in his rescue)
- If all else fails and the customer has enough fuel, ask him/her to do a short hop into supercruise. This seems to "reset" the p2p, as you will most likely be able to see him/her in SC, and jump into the same instance when the costumer drops to normal space.
If anyone has other ideas/suggestions on how to improve this, I'm all ears. Should the day come when a customer dies because of the "instance bug", we have to make sure we have done everything in our power to prevent this from happening.
Kudos to Muffindrake for figuring this out under great duress in a most dramatic rescue. I salute you!
