THE OUTER LIMITS - A Slave Girl

Honestly now; would you take a slave girl/boy into deep space?

THE OUTER LIMITS - by Moira Sheehan

I've been re reading the old Elite Lore and since we are all forum addicts I thought I would pose you a moral question.

Imagine you are not who you are with your lovely job, family and friends etc, but your a seasoned pilot making their living by exploring deep space and your often away from all civilisation for several months at a time. This is all in a Universe where slavery is a fact of life and will carry on regardless of your contribution or otherwise.

If so and your only alternative was the same as the pilot in the story, i.e to take a slave girl/boy for company or rely purely on VR from your ships data banks what would you choose.

It could be torturous to be completely alone for months on end in deep space even with advance VR to keep you amused. And you could always treat them better than most masters and give them their freedom after a few tours if you wanted.

Or alternatively just accept that is how the universe is, and trade in your girl/boy every tour for a bit of variety.

If we are suspending reality for this.

Id be more than happy with some good books and media - think id probably argue with one person if they were on the ship with me in an enclosed space for a long time.

Plus id stop off now and then at any habitable planet for a leg stretch now and then :)

This is deep space exploration. There is no guarantee that you will find a habitable planet, you could be out there for 8 months and never once get out of your ship.

Indeed, from the story its clear that habitable planets are as rare as hens teeth, and you certainty would not risk breathing the air.

Been at sea in Real life for 13 months before now though granted I wasnt on my own :)

No problems at all in being on my own for that long personally.

I would buy a pretty woman, slavery is normal and I wouldn't think any different. I blame my parents for bringing me up with this view.

:D

Haha, I think id avoid bringing anything resembling a Love Slave. If i simply had to have someone with me I'd bring a really good bloke friend and LOADS of beer.

It is what the dude in the story did.

From Sol, Lorn Jumped to Epsilon Eridani, his favourite holiday haunt. One could get almost anything on Epsilon Eridani provided one had credit, and the Corporation's generosity had ensured that Lorn would have credit for a considerable time to come. After ten days of uninterrupted hedonism he decided it was time to pick out a companion for his next expedition. He contacted the slaver he normally bought from and arranged a viewing. There were seven to chose from, all under thirty. He had almost settled on the youngest, a ripe sixteen year old, when a mental image of Elise came sharply into focus and he selected a small, dark woman of twenty-eight with curly hair and velvet eyes.

Hahaha Absolutely!

Nah man I dont swing that way! but I love <snip - redacted by Styggron> conversations with me mates.

85% of Elite backers perfectly fine with slave girls I see.

Frontier had best make sure they program in a variety of slave girl NPCs then to sit behind you looking terrified in combat for you you look around with your Oculus rift on.

It's an interesting question, but we're not really talking about loneliness here are we? Given the average age of the forumites here, I'm guessing I'm not the only one who has spent an extended amount of time with a compliant partner and found that it's no solution for loneliness in itself.

Conversely, being alone is only loneliness if you "endure" it. If you make the most of it, it can be great - even if you only use your SynPleasure Relaxapad to sleep on ;)

It depends on the character I roll.

My Federal agent (which I have decided on already, will be my primary character and the first I'll probably write my fan fiction on) would never do such a thing, and would probably actively fight against such a practice (perhaps by buying and immediately freeing any slaves he comes across).

If I set up an Imperial pilot, he/she just might take a slave and trade in regularly, if going into space for any period of time.

And if I can set up an Alliance/Independent explorer/prospector, he/she would buy a slave, take them on one tour, and then free them once back in civilised space, perhaps with a little credit from finder's fees, to start a new life. Or if he/she has an aversion to slavery, will buy an android/gynoid for pleasure during the long trips, and maybe tinker with the programming to make it more or less compliant, depending on taste.

As you can imagine, the first is set in stone already, but the other two are fairly fluid, depending on what I feel like at the time I set up the character profiles.

I'm pretty sure owning a slave for the purposes of uh... recreation (as in the story), would put you quite firmly on the wrong side of the law in Imperial society.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

The Empire is vast. Lots of places are far from Achernar. ;)

I definitely had to go for the dark side choice, lol! :D

Pleasure slaves are confirmed in the DDF.

Specific types of slaves can be bought and sold (pleasure, brute, domestic etc.)

There's nothing in the design that says different types have different legality. So I suspect you may be incorrect in that assumption.
