When Powerplay came out it was advertised as rewarding you for playing the way you already enjoy playing Elite while also making a difference in the power struggle.
I'm a trader by trade (ha ha!), which means looking for places where I can buy low and sell high. So I naturally assumed that by trading goods within my factions' sphere of influence, I would be benefiting them and be rewarded. However, working for Edmund Mahon entails shipping non-descript resources (not really resources, let's face it. More like invisible faction counters) to particular areas where they're needed. You're very lucky if the place you pick up the faction counters has valuable resources for cheap and the place you're taking the counters to wants to buy them high or vice versa.
In other words, working for a "trading" faction, takes time away from you actually %&$#ing trading.
This isn't a problem if you like bounty hunting because you can work for Zachary and go around pounding less well armed players and being rewarded for it. But for trader players I suggest powerplay be advertised thusly:
"POWERPLAY! STOPS YOU PLAYING THE WAY YOU WANT TO!"
I've quit Mahon in order to get back to actually trading instead of ferrying LOL-Counters around. If it changes in the future so that I actually get rewarded by Mahon for actually trading, I'll get involved again.
