The Powerplay discussion thread.

The overheads has been used as a weapon to oppress others

Grow up.

Can't happen, this guy is mentally 4 years old. You know, this kid in kindergarten who throws a tantrum because he can't do what he wants with the toys belonging to the class, so he gets mad and breaks the toys, punishing the rest of the classroom in the process, that's him.

No kidding, that Hitler thread was the funniest content I've seen on the forums. It doesn't deserve to be in here.

At least we still have Mahoney.

Too right.
Ah. Just remembered I missed repping that vid when I watched it last night. Gonna take a dive back to find it and give what's deserved for a Good Job!

Ed: Oh, apparently I have to spread rep about before I can give Kremmen any more...

Oh my, the Hitler video was merged to this thread? What the hell? WhY?

And our confetti launcher one. Two humour threads gone. Broken up, fragmented and lost in this miasma of hatred and rage.

How disappointing.

Too right.

Hi folks!

While the Confetti Launcher thread is tragically still cut into three-inch lengths and spread throughout this mega-merge, I have some good news:

The other thread has been painstakingly rebuilt by the mod team - manually, post by post - into a single, cohesive thread:

---------------------------------------------
Meanwhile... in the PowerPlay Bunker...
---------------------------------------------

Hitler has taken up residence in the Fiction of Elite and Community Creations sub-forum, which is where I originally envisaged it living. I didn't find that originally, as I was looking for it under its old "Fan Creations" name... so put it in "Dangerous Discussions". It did, in fact, turn out to be "dangerous"! :p

So hats off to the mods for doing what must have been some gruelling rebuilding.

And, thanks to the Confetti Launcher thread (hero thread of the week), we have this to deploy...

While players keep eating the blue pills, they follow the matrix which was presented to cover their eyes from the background. They work for the system which was set to be progressing. However nothing will progress unless...

We beta players eat the red bills and keep eating them until we improve the system and find the flaws of it.

Just like "The Other" thread........it seems that FD want to keep all the bad news in one place........now we have two issues causing people to leave the game...Open/Solo......and PowerPlay........maybe if we stick all the negative stuff in one thread, no one will notice. ;)
.
May I suggest a new Open/Solo/PowerPlay thread..........you could shut the rest of the forum then.... :)

Basics of Powerplay.

Hi,

I have searched but cannot find the fine details of PowerPlay.:S

Simple things such as how do you see how you are getting with merits, rank etc.

Do you need to be a faction for a certain time before they show up?

Thanks,

Player run factions would be good and frankly what me and my friends dreamed of. The galaxy is huge, why not give us the chance to migrate to somewhere far-far away and build our own space stations?

I pledged for a cytoscrambler they never allowed us to test.
And of course it turns out to be the most worthless "weapon" in the game. Most of the faction weapons are worthless as well.
A lot of us have stopped doing anything PP-related since it's pretty much worthless and of course you can't stop solo/private players from undermining you.
There's absolutely no reason to engage in PowerlessPlay whatsoever - unless you enjoy grinding so much you're looking for a new way to grind.

When Powerplay came out it was advertised as rewarding you for playing the way you already enjoy playing Elite while also making a difference in the power struggle.

I'm a trader by trade (ha ha!), which means looking for places where I can buy low and sell high. So I naturally assumed that by trading goods within my factions' sphere of influence, I would be benefiting them and be rewarded. However, working for Edmund Mahon entails shipping non-descript resources (not really resources, let's face it. More like invisible faction counters) to particular areas where they're needed. You're very lucky if the place you pick up the faction counters has valuable resources for cheap and the place you're taking the counters to wants to buy them high or vice versa.

In other words, working for a "trading" faction, takes time away from you actually %&$#ing trading.

This isn't a problem if you like bounty hunting because you can work for Zachary and go around pounding less well armed players and being rewarded for it. But for trader players I suggest powerplay be advertised thusly:

"POWERPLAY! STOPS YOU PLAYING THE WAY YOU WANT TO!"

I've quit Mahon in order to get back to actually trading instead of ferrying LOL-Counters around. If it changes in the future so that I actually get rewarded by Mahon for actually trading, I'll get involved again.

I pledged to Mahon and I found that if I trade goods to and from systems under his control I get trade dividends of something like 5% for all trades...It took me awhile to realize why I was getting the dividends, but now that I know, I try to trade in systems under his control much of the time. 5% isn't a whole bunch but it certainly makes my trades in Mahon space more lucrative for me

Oh sorry, didn't you get the memo? They're considering renaming powerplay to "charity courier play". :)

I've pledged to every single one of them and then defected. Nothing happened, ever. Shows how important I was, they probably partied after I left and called ahead to warn the next unlucky sucker.

It's all a matter of balance
It gives the no lifes a goal and you are still getting paid regardless of your contribution level.

Anyway 5 is not required, but in general, they are just ideas to expand in a system like community goals that are not mandatory, but benefits everyone who want to take part on just for taking part in it.

I don't mean to be argumentative or nitpicky, but a key rule I have is:

"No involvement in any ventures requiring either time, effort or money, where ROI is uncertain, unless the potential is downright outlandish"

Clearly, no outlandish potential is inherent in Power Play, so a ladder design would break its neck.
