Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

What is known if they read any of reddit or this site, is that the player groups are dropping like flies.

FD don't need to read a forum to find out how the game is going. They will have stats for this type of thing.

Some of the biggest groups are folding or will tell you they are loosing active members daily.
If the core members are starting to leave because they are bored, it wont take much for the casual's to jump to the next shiny thing.
Weather you like player groups or not, they are the ones bringing a lot of depth to what is a stale game of grinding.
The Code for example has lost hundreds of members of active players to be replaced by a steady streaming of new players, who we see play for about a month and then just stop.

Who are these 'core' members you speak of? What do you have to do to be considered core?
You are implying here that Code are core group and essential to they game. Not a chance, they don't bring any depth to my game play

I don't exactly know what you are complaining about. You are moaning about the grind and attributing your boredom to Solo players at the same time. It's either one or the other, not both.

You know, moving every happy solo player to open might make YOU happy, but THEY will become unhappy and leave the game. The result is no one is happy, and even fewer players.

You know full well we don't have access to anything that anyone is this thread is going to class as proof. You also know full well that FD are not going release anything saying that.

What is known if they read any of reddit or this site, is that the player groups are dropping like flies.
There is even an active thread at the moment in this forum.

In before Mobius "we have thousands of active members".
No you have lots of people registered to play in PVE mode. ( We have members in your group, do they count? )

ED neither have any subscription model nor is a FtP kind of game, so it is totally irelevant how many peoples actively play the game, because X hundreds of thousands versions was already sold to cutomers.
It is like any other single user game. I bought Skyrim 11.11.2011, played it for an year or two, I still have game installed and I play it from time to time. And is totally irelevant how many other peoples around the world is playing Skyrim at this moment. When will be Fallout 4 and/or new Elder scrolls game finished, I will buy them too and again, it will be totally irelevant how much peoples will play those game.

Then play ALONE and stop demanding that you influence the result of a match you have no real part in ;)

Again, this can be turned right around at the open crowd. In solo we see things change that we have not even been near due to the actions of group and open, just as those who play in group or open see changes that they have not influenced.

In short, don't moan that we change your game when your doing just the same to us.

Finally, FD decided to let ALL players, regardless of play style to take part in PP. It is not the exclusive domain of open or group or solo. It is for the players of ED, which means solo, group and open. Just because a very, very small number of open players come here to have a moan don't expect FD to change the game just to suite the absolute minority of players.

In other words... Then play in OPEN and stop demanding that your influence the result of a match you have no real part in.

See how it works now? One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist, just depends on what side of the fence your sat on.

Just the one forum account here. Your tinfoil hat is not needed. I am genuinely new to the game ( bout a week) but am so bored of its lack of social tools for an online game. In fact I've already stopped plying from boredom already.

Blaze your own trail? If monotonously trading between stations is "blazing" then someone's life must be very boring.

there are so many guides, youtube videos, twitch streams and this very forum.. so really you have only yourself to blame for buying something you don't like.. what exactly were you expecting? advertising has the single function of grabbing your attention, it represents the idea and generates initial interest. but to see an advert and expect it to be the whole thing, and just go 'yes have my money'.. that's like grabbing yourself some feminine hygiene products, so you can learn to, in-line skate, parachute jump and then maybe hit a concert or 2, all in the same weekend, oh and you get to tell mother nature to bog off, and all for the price of £2.99.. what a bargain.

I remember when ppl used to thrive on competition and challenge to better their peers. This generation nowadays is all about the "competition is bad. Everyone is equal. There are no winners or losers" bunch of bull crap they teach kids in school now

Watches in amazement as the point flies over peoples' heads and sails off down the corridor.

NO, it can't be turned around.
You can log into open. I can't log into your solo game.

I don't take part in Powerplay - it holds no interest for me, so I don't influence it.

I don't demand to influence the results of community goals, or to affect market prices when I'm trading - that's just how the game works.

I don't want to dictate how others play the game, and likewise, I refuse to be dictated to on how I like to play the game.

What it all boils down to in reality is that chosen game mode is a small factor on how much influence an individual player or group can have, the biggest factor is how much time they can spend playing the game.
I would imagine that those who co-ordinate in private group (or Mobius) can collectively have the biggest impact. Even then, if you had say 20+ players, all on each others friend's lists, all playing in open in the same area - you'd never see any of them anyway - due to the way that the instancing will always prefer to join in-game friends together. Yes, they are in open, but as far as you are concerned, they might as well be in solo or private group.

The game comes with a shared universe. It's part of the sales blurb, public knowledge.
Players can choose who they are instanced with - Anyone in Open, anyone in their Private Group, or no-one else. That is public knowledge.
All players can influence the shared universe. Also public knowledge.

Knowing that all of those things are public knowledge and can be very easily found out before purchase, why are you complaining about them after purchase?

because an NPC has no gamer ego, its AI is programmed to function in that environment, true to the nature and abilities it is giving for its type and role. if we understand the role our AI aggressor we can account for it and prepare appropriately. if FD say its a pirate and they have modelled it properly, we know it will make demands, we know shoot us for giggles, and we know once we have dropped the cargo we are free to be on our way. When SJ does her magic to the AI and says 'this is what it should do'.. we trust her.. and if it doesn't do as she says it should, we know that she will go back and sort it.

as for real players being more realistic.. you really haven't considered that statement have you? players are aware they are playing a game, so most of them don't concern themselves with the most basic of human nature.. survival. assessing survival and processing risk is something we all do in real life, but in a game there no fear of death, only a concern about any cost attached to it or respawn times. Add to that the lack of serious consequences for certain actions not scaling with the offence committed.. this allows for behaviour and attitudes that are not real. so no.. real players are not more realistic.
Empiricism, psychoanalysis, the natural sciences, I wouldn't even know where to begin commenting on a comment like this, except to say that I've noticed a tendency to debate the other down rather than create positive discussion in this thread as a whole. I suppose the title of the thread, Solo v Open v Group Thread is problematic in the same sense that I (my apparent but unproven ego) find PVP so. That is, the word 'versus' always creates this Hegelian need to beat ones opponent within the confines of an explicit opposition, hence resolving the argument in a singular way, such as "real players are not more realistic". Perhaps the more poignant question would be, is realism more realistic?
My point? One load of obscurantism does not disprove another.

Did you know that Wagon Wheels aren't actually smaller now? Unbelievable I know.

Player A: Fancy a game of football this weekend?
Player B: Great idea but I would like to play in solo mode.
Player A: Huh?
Player B: I want to be able to stand in an empty field and kick the ball into your goal as many times as I can in 90 mins..
Player A: What's the point of that?
Player B: YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO DICTATE MY PLAY STYLE!!!

Commentator A: And there's the final whistle of what has been an outstanding World Cup final. Brazil win 3 - 1
Commentator B: Yep an amazing display of skill from the Brazilians but of course we still need to wait for the solo scores
Commentator A: And the solo scores are coming in now... and Argentina win it 474,382 - 12

because of course.. all the solo players are playing against you aren't they.. i guess they must have had a meeting before hand.

paranoid much?

I would say the problem was created by referring to a fictional game in terms of realism. I believe that what QziQza was trying to say was that players are not necessarily more contextually appropriate than NPCs which, generally speaking, should always be congruous. You can't guarantee the same with all players.

what has this got to do with anything? I play for enjoyment. Some of the people on this forum I WOULD enjoy spending my gametime with, however others I have no interest in ever interacting with. Pirates in Open may well have 99% Jordan Cobalt type players however sadly that 1% is enough for me to find another way. This has all to do with what I am tought in school and everything to do with how I enjoy my free time. As i said before it only takes 1 maggot in my bowl of rice to spoil my meal.

The fact that some people even deliberately join private groups where PvP is not allowed just so they can troll/grief players and are happy to admit it without feeling ashamed sums up the attitude of some who play the game. ED is not my job, its not my education, it is my entertainment.

it would be a bit like having a friendly game of touch rugby and 1 person deciding to play by the "real" rules and not the carebear rules for cowards despite knowing everyone else is happy playing touch rules..

Whilst it is unfortunate for those PvP orientated players who bought the game in ignorance the simple fact is I do not need them. IF they need me, tough, they got the wrong game, maybe i will see them in WarThunder or BF4, but I wont see them in elite - unless it happens to be playing with a group of mates who prefer open (then it would down to a democratic vote one where we play).

I did not buy the game blind, if I had of done, rather than make a fool of myself / or look like a selfish prat I would either alter how I played the game and accept my mistake, or i would move on.

Going forward steam offer refunds now, maybe that is an avenue for some folk?

The Argument now shifts to retention. Anecdotal info used to support doom and gloom unless the game is redesigned for the Open-Only crowd. This argument is completely useless. It has been tried over and over again in any number of forums, and any number of issues, and any number of games. It's the last resort of the disaffected, claim the sky is falling all because players have a choice. Ridiculous in the extreme.

I still challenge the Open-Only supporters to justify changing core mechanics of the game because of a sub-set of the players personal gaming ethics. Once you examine this question fully, I'm sure you will see the light and embrace choice.

if only.. unfortunately ego cant read, wont listen to reason and just wants feeding!!

So because I have already purchased the game I am not allowed to comment or offer an opinion?

I love this game, I would love it even if it were solo only.
I also find it a shame that some of it's potential is not being realized and the multiplayer problems are one of those areas.

As it happens the Powerplay part of the game was NOT known when I bought the game and I am commenting on some of the issues that introducing such a competitive element brings to the 'shared' model you outline.
