FYI: user posts a video of a cheater who clearly admits it, laughing about FD soft hand, and FD take immediate action

I can't account for him jumping 100 ly, I didnt see where he landed. What I can account for is the shield hack, along with everyone else who watched the video. I don't want to chase shadows, but what is clear is clear. He shield hacked, admitted it freely, and scoffed at FD's punishment even being bold enough to post a screenshot of the message he received from FD. Either do a thing or don't. A 1 week shadowban is an insult to the community that trusts FD to deliver the product they paid for.

the fact that he is jumping 100LY should be easy to spot server side. 30.53LY is the absolute MAX a stripped down python can jump. should have been an easy tell. which nobody would run. how hard would it be to have a max LY jump identifier server side for every ship type to raise flags. i doubt its the first time he has ever jumped way farther than he was able to without cheating. and players still had to report it

you can do 45 ly in a explorer conda i believe.

I'm looking to buy a Chef, so I can start using these food cartidges I bought in Lave. Anyone selling one? I'll give you 280cr.

Max I could get was 41.2ly on a anaconda, and that's if you want your ship to explode when you FSD by taking stupidly low level power plants and and distributors Ect, just charging the FSD brings the heat way over 100%

too sad that FDevs cant deal with cheaters like shown here:

btw, i agree to anyone who suggests to:
-delete account incl. exploration data-wipe, no money back, blacklist for all games. case closed.
simple.

all others should spend some time in some fresh air and start using their brain, they might come to a conslusion. perhaps close to:
letting cheaters play with us loyal players is an insult.

Oh lord, a 1 week shadowban. No wonder cheaters openly laugh at Frontier.

Hey it's my buddy Cadoc!!!

Don't forget though that punishments and bans are made so that people are educated and carry on playing. Ultimately no one *wants* to ban people. I certainly don't. Not in game, not on the forums etc.

It is a sad case when someone feels the need to disrupt other peoples enjoyment of the game and ruin their hard work. Every case is dealt with on a case by case basis but rest assured that cheaters will be punished and people who feel the need to shrug the bans off and not take the opportunity to learn from their bans will result in more permanent punishments. Up to and including permanent bans.

Thats fair enogh...

but do take into consideration there is a hell of a difference in giving yourself "unlimited" funds hack and giving yourself "invulnerable" shields and ""boosted" weapons hack. Personally I could not care less what people do to their own as long as it does not affect other people. Hacking with the intent of grifing other people is about the lowest of the lowest you can sink to. These people does not need to be "educated" they need to be expelled, and the rest of the community neeeds to be protected against these dregs.

Cheer Cmdr's

EDIT: this post was edited because it seems I've named and shamed a poor poor PROVED cheater and hacker, violating the "naming and shaming" policy, while he was simply violating the game, FD and other Players. Even though, no name was made directly.
And no animals were harmed while writing this post.

The bigger man is only the bigger man in silence.

He almost certainly bought a program that hacks memory - it is well advertised. Whilst I can see the need to educate people who may, say, combat log in the heat of the moment, this was a premeditated act. They knew it was wrong when they bought the program - they don't have to be educated about that. The only education they need is about how severe the consequences are. And here we are again in gentle slap on the wrist mode.

Zac, while i agree with you in general (i worked on an online game for many years, and in 5 years we had to perma ban less than 5 people using a softly softly approach) a little consideration for the scale of the cheating wouldn't go amiss. 1 week is a bit of a joke really considering their behaviour and response.

Please, go read the cheats forums and read some of the reactions there from cheaters to being shadowbanned. Its enough to make you cringe.

Totally agree. I saw someone torturing puppies the other day, and I was like.... I should so something, but there are INTERNET CHEATS out there that I need to help catch!

Gotta say, this is a fair point. How many people actually go to these lengths? Not enough to worry about banning them all. And nobody cheats like this without being fully aware of the potential consequences.

Zac,

I think the frustration felt by players is the perceived bias in favour of the cheaters. The forum has a no tolerance policy on either the cheaters themselves posting how they did it, or on those reporting the cheating. As soon as anyone posts anything directly connecting to an incident of cheating, it is removed from the visible forums (or possibly deleted straight away). Yet in-game, there seems to be an absence of this zero tolerance policy when we read about cheaters being banned for one week. Those reporting the cheaters believe a more stricter policy is what is needed.

I feel Frontier are doing it the right way, manually investigating cases on a "case by case" basis (as opposed to some form of automatic detection that might make errors that are hard to appeal against), but I also feel that the punishment is not a good enough deterrent and should result in permanent banning straight away (that's my opinion).

Yes, but if I'd been in silence, you'd never known story. Knowledge need to be spread, not keep for ourselves in silence. ;)
Most of all, there were non names in my post. Just a link to a Reddit post, with a link to a Video.
But perhaps I've misunderstood what you meant...

EDIT: And a cheating accusation NEEDS proofs, like a Video. Video or it didn't happen, isn't it? ;)

Where can I view the video? PM me a link...I want to see if it is the same individual I and several others encountered last night.

If you look at the previous posts, you'll find some bits of the original reddit link, quoted somewhere...
That reddit link will lead you to the video ;)

I think I already found it...not the same guy but the same exploit for sure! Losers, I hate dweebs that cheat.

Hello Zac! I absolutely get where you guys are coming from with your cheating/banning policy, it can just be frustrating from a player's perspective. At least enforcement has sped up a lot and there are no more warnings with no ban attached, so we shouldn't be getting a repeat of the Tommi situation a little while back. If a cheater is actually quickly banned on a second offence, great, I think that will satisfy most people. I just had a flashback to the situation in the past and posted in a moment of exasperation :D

Restricting access to the game should never be done automatically. Over at World of Tanks, people have already proven repeatedly that it is possible to get banned for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

I would like to know how Rizal72 knows this is actually his banmail and not a very effective troll

Well, I don't. He knew nothing serious was coming, that he made clear in chat. So we're looking at a guy who had already been caught and received just a warning. A week shadow ban for both insulting other players and cheating is completely inappropriate for a repeat offender.

Sorry Quineloe, I didn't understand what you are asking me.

BTW, you are right about the guy already been caught!

If you've seen the video, there is a part where the cheater talks about another CMDR, who just received a warning.
Now the cheater, in the reddit thread, recently admitted that HE actually was that CMDR as well.
So, multiple accounts, not first time cheating.
Permanent ban. That's all.

Unfortunately he will start again with a new account, but at least FD will slow him down. ;)

That's not correct, I'm afraid, Zac. I do.

I want cheaters to be banned.

They ruin players' direct experiences in-game.

Not banning them undermines customers' expectations of justice, reduces potential cheaters' expectations of the consequences of cheating, and diminishes the game.

It is being nice to the people who don't deserve it (the deliberate cheaters), and gives no solace to the people in need of protection from cheating players (the rest of us).

If I'm an antisocial git, and I know that the sole, limited "punishment" for using brazen cheat mods against other players - and getting the footage up on YouTube - is a week of shadowban, well... off I go with my memory editor and video cap software, to get all that exciting publicity! Who cares? I'll go and ruin the games of several dozen players in the course of an evening, and get some grrrrrreat rage comm footage. How funny they are when they get angry about a video game. Even funnier if I can find their complaints on FD Forum, Reddit, Steam Community (where every member of each community can read about my hilarious cheating ruining gameplay).

If I'm an antisocial git, but I know that as soon as I use a memory editor I'll have my account disabled, I won't do it.

Which one of those two scenarios is better for the game reputation and community?

Hint: It's not the "softly, softly, be nice to the naughty players as we educate them to be wholesome" approach.

Ban them.

Better to read their rage posts and empty threats than those from the 99.9% of players doing the right thing.
