There are also some notes that seem to appear between the purrs now and again, they seem more pitch related than length ie note rather than morse, these ones are harder to make out I think and although I think there's only a limited number of f=variations, there are more variations than the howl's 2.

.

At about 2:10 those 3 notes are A5, C6, C6. I'll listen again if they pop up anywhere else.

OK in a couple other spots it sounds like they are just blips, it's hard to tell if it's C6 or C#6

Oh well, the one that got away. =(

So did you do anything out of the ordinary?

Or just hanging around in deep space waiting for SSSs?

No missions taken out or anything like that?

Just for reference, depending on approach, ideally I think you need.

Wake scanner (if you're planning to follow, I belive the T9 normally jumps first)
Interdictor (probably) to subsequently pull it out of SC
Hatch breakers

Sometimes you can only get two dumps of cargo before the hatch is at 0% and what you want is then "stuck" inside, I think hatch breaker is the only way at this point.

Just want to note I got mine with out using hatch breakers. A beam laser & targeting the hatch in short bursts works pretty effectively. Stop shooting when you see new contacts on the radar & check what popped out.

Its not morse code.

Hi everyone, I've not read the entire thread (who has time?), however, I've spent some time listening to the sounds coming from the UA from recordings on-line.

I don't know who told you that it was morse code or even distorted morse code. IMHO it certainly is not.

I did morse code in the military for many years over long range HF skywave links, and I'm really not hearing the morse code in the UA's sound.

Please note : I'm only listening at normal audio speeds.

It doesnt matter what you say. Even if your an expert in the morse code field. These people will hear what they want to hear. They will speed up the audio and slow it down for no scientific reason. They will change the pitch probably until they hear or think they are hearing something.

They will get the gobbledeegook letters and then start to rearrange them to spell something.

Alright i'm off to make money, need to get that clipper before the emperor goes back to sleep lol

you realize that the guy you quoted looked at it again and agrees it's morse now right? The fact that a glanet article was posted pretty much confirms it regardless.

Hi mrtree.
Good work out there on the front line.
I have a request. Could you please make some focused screen shots of the two different "Maya number" bars. The narow one is most important. We have good shots of the other one.
No need for video and no hurry.

As requested:

Pretty much what I did too. I've never had much luck with hatchbreakers against targets which have point defence.

I've posted twice challenging your theory and you haven't replied. Now you've posted this, despite the fact that Graeme changed his position and now acknowledges the fact that the morse code is there (see quote below). I'm starting to doubt your sincerity.

I hear it, the pitch and rhythm of morse is there - It's morse, and only a human could detect it. I now agree completely.
I'm happy to have a go at verifying translations if needed.

Good morning!
Has someone managed to test my theory and made a longrange jump with both items in his cargo?
Here again the theory in short for those who dont want to search it at one of the past 30 pages or so:
UA is a Communicator, it sends out names of our Planets in Morse - a Human language. Thargoids tried to communicate with us a few times based on the lore.
Sap 8 is reffered to as a Map
Witchspace might be the Thargoid Space, since it was said that they own far more space than we do - so they are everywhere and we just jump through. Also they appeared and vanished out and into nowhere and where never seen again. And since they had such a mastery in manipulating witchspace (missjumps, redirections etc)...they could live in there.
Also it was said that they can enter a form of "stasis" in witchspace to survive, what a human cant without turning insane.

So maybe they have just send us the tools to communicate and find them, so that we search contact since when they tried it and "invaded" our space...we killed them.
Seems like you allready found a new one theory, i will try to catch up later if the topic doesnt get flooded again (30 pages since yesterday wow)

Those pictures...we have to admit that the FD Art team can deliver some pretty awesome stuff

Oh btw, i have a theory what the other sounds could be.
So, if the UA is a Communicator and we have identified the Morse...well...lets take a look at the past.
We Humans have send Morse into space, right? And we have found Morse inside that chittering that we can translate.
Thargoids obviously use another language, and i have read somewhere that they use an Octagonal system, and someone back then tried to find an Octagonal system in that purr (i think he found it, but couldnt decode it).
So what about this:
The Chittering is OUR Language, the Purr/scream is THEIRS.
They want to teach us their language, they point at something, chitter it in what they know from us, and tell us what it is called in their language.
So if we analyze both of them and create an Thargoid alphabet based on that, would that make sense? I mean...translating a new language is hard work...but maybe it is worth a try

Additional idea:
From what i have seen, voyager transmitted in different languages, also that golden disc had several informations on how we count and all those things.
So maybe the UA is like our Voyager - it sends in morse to tell us that they have understood our message, and now they are sending theirs. Maybe the sound is not just "one big code" but several smaller ones?

Although I admire the original idea about the mayan numbers, seeing those pics has me unconvinced. The colour patterns are identical on all the shafts in shot. I don't know about if they change, but to me that just looks like a copy-paste rendering effect, rather than anything intentional.

Don't let that dissuade you, might just be a case of me not understanding anything about mayan numbers :)

While I can't log in and do anything, while there's been some discussion about the SAP-8's and the "Crystal" no cargo missions, don't discount Trinkets of Hidden fortune, if you're following things based off mission text connected with the Dark Wheel. Although trinkets seem more readily available at USS and Nav Beacons, like SAP-8's and those missons, they also have ELITE or FOUNDER requirements. Two missions seem to exist, one for you deliver some to

* either contacts of the Dark Wheel, or on behalf of the dark wheel, or
* Steal some off people delivering on behalf of the dark wheel.

My internet connection is really quite terrible, so I actually can't google any images,, but I've not seen the text for completion of these missions either in any searching. Maybe there's a clue in there?

Edit: see? double post :/ My internet really sucks right now...

Zenith & I are working on that. Maybe more tomorrow evening.

The colors constantly shift (the same shader that's applied to the "head", with two/three? layers of striated blue/green shifting over one another). I can't recommend looking for certain ones to be lit up over another. For example, here's the color shift in action: http://youtu.be/SSdOK6TKNxM

EDIT: Don't freak out about there being no sound. LMAO if your version of Elite respects audio device switches triggered by recording software & you don't have to incessantly restart just to record.

Thank you LordZoltan.

But to be honest, I'm not utterly convinced. I used to do Morse at the not terrific speed of 15 words/minute (I could transmit faster - most people can).

There was a breed of highly skilled operators who could receive morse at speeds upwards of 35 words/minute and to be quite honest they were head cases. I've heard stories of these guys sitting round a fire and transcribing morse code from the crackles of the fire.

The point I'm trying to make, is that given an unclear signal the human brain is capable of hearing what it believes to be morse code when it's not really there.

My respect for your endeavours but I believe the theory of morse code transmission in the audio to be an incorrect assumption. Time will tell I suppose and if I'm wrong I would welcome a "I told you so" PM.

In the meantime I will keep my eyes pealed for UA's whilst I'm out and about.

Can you make this out?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/irvb3djn7qq0gns/ross154.wav?dl=0

We could do with another morse decoder round here (it takes me an age). =)

Bitstorm - I take it all back, now I've got my "ear in" you can clearly make out ROSS154

OK - I deliberately didn't view your the spoiler until I'd had a go at the translation.

The first part was very difficult but I got the following about 1 quarter of the way in.

5FRORGGUB103A

Which to anyone who doesn't know morse code would look like complete nonsense but actually is very close to your deduction considering how close a G is to Z (must have missed a dit (twice)) and the FRO, di di dah dit - di dah dit - dah dah dah could also be my mistakes as SECT di di dit - dit - dah di dah dit - dah is very close to FRO . . . . I've not done this in 20 years but warming up fast.

So I concur with what you state as the translation in the spoiler.

^^ This is the kind of thing making this thread/forum great.

Good work guys.

Graeme - I've estimated the wpm at around 13-15wpm (it's not consistent when we get to word spacings - the gaps between words are a bit longer). Glad to have you on board :D

I humbly request that you people go to sleep and stop posting here for like 12 hours lol. sadly didn't make enough to get that clipper, i'm short like 3mil but i need sleep so i don't miss work tomorrow. have a good night/day every one

Thats not to crazy of an idea. If the morse code is readable and it names the system and such in our language. I seen before on reddit all this morse code stuff. Like why would an alien use our language for a scanner. So maybe the other part is their language.

I still think when these things explode they are sending back the info. Or directly traveling back to home.

Could it be possible that there is another item that explodes like this?
I mean...all containers decay, right?
