2) Some have suggested that the UA could be a new form of (experimental) scanner, or possibly a nav-beacon type thing. This would certainly match up with the "Honk, chitter, purr" soundtrack and the morse-code system-ident that's embedded. There's also the GalNet story about Kahina Tijani's ship getting a new Gutamaya Scanner fitted (at Avalon works?). The last reference I can find to Tijani in GalNet is her recall to Achenar - has anyone tried taking the UA to Avalon works / Achenar and checking Bulletin Boards there?

2) I don't know

The senator angle, although it's nice to think otherwise, is a red herring (although I don't think deliberately so, we're just all like over-eager dogs with bones!) that originates from Drew Wagar and his 'Reclamation' story, so there's nothing to see there, unfortunately. He confirmed as much to us.

This is going to make me sound stupid. And you guys are probably not going to believe me. But here it goes.

I work with a guy who used to test for Rockstar, one of his old mates there is now a QA tester for Frontier. I have literally been pestering him for anything like an annoying 11 year old girl. Now, i know you guys can call my bluff. But i have zero reason to lie, im not DayGoBah or whatever, i just want this damn UA figured out.

Im not naming him, as i don't want to put his Job at risk. He seems like a nice guy.

Anyway, the past 2 days ive been getting my workmate to hassle him on my behalf, he has been very stingy.

Started by saying "tell him to listen to it"

By which i responded (lied): "I have listended to it! The question is what do i do with the one i already have?!?!"

Then today, we recieved this.

The middle text was personal to my workmate so again, blurred.

TL;DR: IT IS THARGOID LADIES AND GENTS.

LISTEN! LISTEN! I think that it is something that only some people would recognize: perhaps something about a sound in a movie, or in a past Elite game, something like that, something that not all the people could get if they don't have a "comparison".
BTW you friend does not risks anything: He just told us to LISTEN, and that we did not figured out it already (most important!)...

He's technically not my friend, dont know the guy! Just my work mate does well.

And even if he has nothing to risk, i still don't want to even get him a dodgy look. Just looking out for him i guess.

Im pressing for more (as much as an annoying nag can ;) so ill keep everyone updated).

Honestly, i feel sorry for the fact i can kinda half get in touch with the guy.

Another wild long shot - purrs are different for each observer - or possibly different for the ship type the observer is piloting - we have the UA making whale song noises and a ship called an Orca?

No, no more hints! If he says it's really easier than we think, IT SHOULD BE LIKE THAT, as it confirms what FD told us.
In the first days there was someone who speeded up the sound a lot, that revealed the Tuba-like sound, very similar to Close Encounters's note sequence. I'm looking for those fast speeded recording to listen to them again...

YES!!!!!!!!!! I LIKE IT!!!!
Listen to it from an ORCA!

EDIT: I've 50 millions spare, If no one of us owns an Orca (No one has it! :D) I could buy it, and reach some UA bearer to listen to it. I don't mind about the 10% loss... ;)

rizal72.

Just because i read this post literally ever hour when im at work, and i see you devoting a hell of a lot of time and effort. Which i respect.

I promise, hell, i swear on my beloved FDL i will not post anything else. Even on the slighty chance i do get one. Im not that hopeful tbh, ive got to have started to annoy him by now.

Just remember, every post you make, i read :)

Im excited, ive i think of anything on my own. I will post.

Like i said though. Pretty excited IT IS THARGOID.

I've gotta say for myself I don't want any hints that are not officially from Frontier. What's the point doing all this is if the answer is given away, we do all the work for nothing because the reward is taken away. =(

We have an indication that there's something to find, that should be more than enough. I honestly don't feel we lack the ability to solve this, it's just about maintaining momentum. It will happen folks.

Holy crap.

This would explain alot, why the Orca is even in the game for me... it is a 50m bag of turd. So it would make sense to have it serve an actual purpose.

Nice shout.

It won't get given away. Sorry man i didn't want to cause a stir.

That's not how i am anyway, ive not asked for an answer just for a clue. To me it'd be cheating and im not about that!

Like i said to rizal72, i read this alot and see you post SO MUCH. I respect you both a hell of alot for it, i wouldn't do it to you i promise.

<3 you guys.

4) A number has been sold accidentally, not sure if any have been sold intentionally with a view of checking if anything changes

Where do you get that from?
From the original thread 'I and I Redeye' thought he had found some and sold them, which is what prompted us to search USS and WSS.
However, he may have confused Unknown Artefacts with something else and, since he didn't mention the toxic cargo effect, I think this is likely.
I've asked in the threads several times if anyone can confirm actually selling a known UA (if you will) but nobody has.
It's this that was leading me into the conclusion we need to try to sell one at Leonard Nimoy station, to whit...

So again with the "Listen to it" hint and we now know that it is supposed to do something.

What can we be missing about listening to it?
I was wondering if this invalidates my "take it to Leonard Nimoy station" theory but then I had a thought...

What if it is all JUST a Star Trek IV: A Voyage Home reference telling us to go to Leonard Nimoy (who, of course, played Spock who deciphered the probe in the film) station with it?!?

'Live long and prosper' in morse-coded little-ended binary rot-13d 7-bit ascii.

Sorry... Couldn't resist.

Maybe that is what the high-pitched background noise is repeating in morse code!

But seriously, I am terrified that this idea is so stupid that it might just be correct.

Although we should totally try the Orca thing too.

I would love an Orca angle. I would smile for a week :)

Well I might have to have crow for dinner... Was sure the "have you listened to them" was a hint for us to find the UA not necessarily understand it

Love the Orca Angle ! _ Maybe this is a way for people to finally get passengers :) ... well thargoid passengers atleast

a) I'm always suspicious of anyone who "knows someone who knows someone in the know..." ;) but nevertheless...
2) "not everyone will get it" makes me think the "listen to it" is based on an in-joke or in-lore reference.

The fact that both clues are worded the same (i.e. not "it's to do with the sound..." or "it's the noise it makes, but just listen to it) kinda backs this up. Assuming you're of a paranoid, conspiracy theorist bent.
