Aye yeah I did.

it's just I'm in 109 V and at least we know they've dropped here before.

I tried 20 O the other night nothing. Maybe I'll give it another go for 30 minutes or so, possibly more spawns there but if 20O isn't in the designated drop area.....

Yup, it is possible.
I think UA probably spawn anywhere, just as a very rare spawn but, of course, you never know till you find one.

Did you see my post above?
20 Ophiuchi might be worth checking out.
I moved down to 20 Ophiuchi earlier this evening after spending the last week searching 109 V without luck (quite a few well known cmdrs there), for a change of scenery (!) as much as anything else.

In a gold trap, I had an npc - who wasn't in the contact list - direct message about his escort having system failures our something, before the usual attack (hopefully I have a screenshot of this, but away from pc). As he didn't appear to be actually there i have to assume this must have been a bug, but hey after all this searching I'll take anything and continue the search from there.

And just to mention, the BBC micro (home of original Elite) version of Soace Invaders was published by 'Bug-Byte Ltd', naturally.

And here's the 20x!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/7ekc1ybe3m9udum/Mars & the Unknown Artefact_20.mp3?dl=0

Look I dunno, the 20x really sounds like it's building to something, almost like a bomb!

But nano-virus/plague bomb?

Daygobah would love this pity he couldn't stay civil. =(

Maybe it's charging up, given time that head will open up and send a beam in some direction or other!

Perhaps it's trying to get to 12 purrs/cycle.

I would now really like to hear an extended version, like there's a bit of a risk but scoop at 5%.

There is no way to prevent a cannister exploding short of scooping it up is there? I mean if we could keep the UA purring for longer somehow.

Does a canister degrade inside an air-locked Coriolis?

Okay I thought this earlier (hence why I'm quoting a now ancient post from just under two hours ago!) - what about slowing it down? I've been meaning to do it myself, but just haven't got round to it.

We naturally want to speed it up because the dominant sounds are obviously derived from samples that have been slowed down.

But there's a lot of high-pitched stuff in this noise, that is almost certainly derived from other samples that have been sped up
Disclaimer: I'm suspending, for this post only, my feeling that audio manipulation is not required to solve this problem :)

The senator angle, although it's nice to think otherwise, is a red herring (although I don't think deliberately so, we're just all like over-eager dogs with bones!) that originates from Drew Wagar and his 'Reclamation' story, so there's nothing to see there, unfortunately. He confirmed as much to us.

There could have been. But sadly there will not be.

I haven't been out of Timocani since Saturday...so I'm probably not registering as a visit. I haven't been in game constantly, I don't get much chance to play... a fair few hours since then though.

how many people are actually hunting for UA's here?
I'm in Timocani at the moment and there's only been 12 visiting ships in the last 24 hours! a couple of them are me and a few more are a cmdr I met yesterday who wasn't hunting UA's at the time
whats cmdr traffic like in 109 virginis?
maybe we should start a new prize fund to attract a few more hunters, it was suggested by arcononn earlier but I don't think it got anywhere

Sorry not sure about "Grumbleweed" is also the correct CMDR name?
But we are almost under us ...

With regards to the Morse cycles in the audio; Is there any Extra data that is produced that cannot correlate to letter sequences?

I don't get much time in game during the summer and passed on my copy of the UA ages ago, so any help would be great.

Sorry I misunderstood you, were saying the same thing then. It enables more complete cycles.

Yes I really want to hear an extended deployment (scoop at 5-10%) near Io. =p

Hit (SAP)8 purrs/cycle (although the speed increase might be time dependent instead of cycle count dependent I suppose).

Also a planetary body TYPE checklist, it really does seem like it might be discovery scanning. Take the UA to each one, ticking each type off one by one. Ammonia- check.

Yes, that would be indeed very cool. Sad that there are so few uas this days. :(

See...to use a phrase that has actually got my back up in RL....we're over thinking it.

I have no idea what to do, but I don't think it's anything fancy or specialist because that would limit the participation of the general player base...like me; audio/crypto gandalfology isn't my strong point.

To be honest, I'm reduced to wanting to kick it again to see if that works this time.

They made space invaders, and it sounds like a good name for a system.

What is space invaders but a game about an alien invasion.

That's what I was trying to get at too. Was on the loo so couldn't check the galaxy map at the time :)

But a reference to space invaders would be very fitting, quite funny and would also be a lot simpler... And people in the know (IIRC) have suggested its much simpler than some of the (admittedly very awesome) investigations that have so far been carried out.

Don't want to stick my nose in but I just thought if you are looking for a location to take the UA to, a system whose name has some link to the original game would be worth a try. I've just had a quick look on the galaxy map searching for some of the names in the Wikipedia page (including the developer name among others) but no hits... Might be something in it though, some obscure reference that isn't on the Wikipedia page.

This is an artistic interpretation of a phage multiplying

Thinking about plagues.

We know that sometimes a UA eats its way out of a cargo hatch. Left to its own devices, it would shortly afterwards explode. We cannot assume that we have seen every convoy that has had one. "IF" the UA is a plague carrier and "IF" it spreads its "spores" by exploding, we would expect that systems become infected after convoys pass through and lose their UA. This would be quite rare - but it may be that the convoys have more than one route, and thus there may be other places to look for them - the plague systems.

The only place we know of where a UA was exploded was uninhabited so no plague could be spread.

Yes I know there are a lot of "IF"s in that idea - Easy enough to check for convoys in plague systems tho - might give us a few more to play with.

If we had spare UAs we could always try exploding one near a station - possibly a bit immoral - and see if plague develops.

Yes I know I've posted this type of thing before - no-one has answered - I don't want to sound like "he whose name shall not be mentioned" - but I can't see the logical flaw in this.

Gandolfology, as in "speak friend and enter" (quote from lord of the rings, the answer is to say the word "friend").

"Have you tried listening to them". No, but I have searched the galaxy map for THEM and you do find a system in inhabited space...

If only I had a UA, and wasn't thousands of light years away...

No, it's a nice idea, but so far every known recording of the Morse signal that has been analysed has successfully translated into just a local body/station name or system name without any extraneous letters or digits.

We have been kinda hoping that there might be somewhere where the UA's Morse would be different - but no such place has been found. There's also the slight problem of divining this mythical system from the multitude available to a UA carrier within reasonable reach of a repair bay!

This is a teaser while my video uploads and processes with Youtube...

It is confirmed!
Unknown Artefact + 8x SAP8 Core Container = 3 purrs.
Removing SAP8s changes the UA sound back to 5 purrs.

There is a catch though. You need to get the UA within the "cloud" or "swarm" of SAP8. If there aren't enough SAP8s within a certain radius of the UA, it will just carry on with 5 purrs.

So purely by "listening to it", we've determined that 8x SAP8 Core Containers in close proximity to a UA will change the sounds output from 5 purrs to 3 purrs. :)

Also thanks to this brave CMDR!
Be cautious: there are variations now with engaging NPC's ( Engaging! Traget at my list ... and such) Check the picture if available if really Naval Convoi please.
Also have found new Naval convois in USS in 109 Virginis. Yes: USS 1xT9 with 1x or 2x Anaconda always with 1x Gallium inside rest vary

No clue what thats mean ...

But i would say: forget the hunt in this form yet. Boring like hell! Very bad from Frontier, very very bad ...
No one knows if it is bugged or not. But you find not the right convoi also after the 300'th SSS.
So Frontier please fool not longer your costumer please. Would not be the first time from addicted to hater in game industrie ....

We salute you!
