Sarah moved from current project, update no longer coming?

Is that a statement of fact? Could it not be someone thought the idea of a 'hard' AI could scare off new players and that would lead to a lower return on investment on the cash cow? :p

When I'm really down about E: D I tend to think things like that. I would not be at all surprised if the promised 'consequences' for murder were 'accidentally' omitted to make sure the pew-pew crowd would not complain. When I get to that point, I leave the forums for a while.

Sad to admit but I don't understand Twitter :eek:
I am kind of in the same situation, and as such do not use Twitter much.

I look at Twitter as a quick way to spread:
- Useful and not-so useful information;
- Rumors;
- Trends;
- Thoughts;

Without hashtagged words/names in your tweets they only reach those who subscribe to you, and with #'ed words, you become part of info/rumors about those particular words.

..is this close, or am I completely off the barn door?

2: Yes, posting her deleted tweets is going to do absolutely nothing for her aside from potentially cause serious friction between herself and FDev, so please stop with that, in-fact it would be very wise for anybody having done so to remove the image captures of them entirely from this thread. They were deleted for a reason, a knee-jerk reaction to a situation should never be disclosed in public and she has reversed that, so do the same if you posted images, you are hurting nobody but her.

Well, yes. I've deleted my post with the capture, since it's really only drama-inducing. Who knows. *shrug*

Not that anyone cares, but I wasn't a fan of Mrs. Avory's forum posts, nor the weird fanboy crush a lot of people seemed to exhibit. Her docking computer AI makes me very happy, though - I was looking forward to that update!

Some people appreciate the fact that she, as one of the devs, was actually posting, not like most of the other devs that seem to ignore the forums 95%(99.9%) of the time, especially the Suggestion forum, which they avoid like the plague.

Well it's what she said on the twitter feed.

The thing is, if FD are working on a very important update, then it's natural that they'll want their best devs on it.

Trying to look at it from SJA's point of view, my guess is:

Spent months creating code for AI improvements, and testing that code against the main trunk.
Then pulled off that to work of something considered more pressing, before the AI code could be merged into the main trunk.
The AI code doesn't disappear, but by the time she gets back to it, the main trunk will have evolved, so lots of extra work retesting and tweaking the AI code, or simply start again from scratch.
This makes her feel like a lot of time has been wasted.

It is *hard* to be completely down on E: D though isn't it? - somewhere under all of the trauma, it's heart is still Elite. :) (Plus how many other AAA-ish, galaxy-sized, "do what you want", modern space games are there out there at present? :/ )
.
I want to think of Frontier, not as a business, but a lovable bunch of scamps, beavering away to make the best space game ever - but they do make it hard sometimes! :)

I'm hoping that her apparent displeasure at the change is more due to the feeling of wasted effort than anything else, i.e. I hope that wherever they put her now isn't some dull, unappealing, bleh job that she doesn't find engaging. Since we don't know WHAT she is doing, obviously can't say for sure, but it would really suck for her to get moved from a task she was clearly very much enjoying- maniacal cackling included- only to be stuck on the company's 'Next Big Thing' that fails to spark any real passion in her. Even though i didn't pay a lot of attention to the discussions on the AI updates themselves- I was more gung-ho about fleshing out the story mechanics myself- I did see her name mentioned features pretty regularly in other threads. Combined with the meteoric rise of THIS thread, it's clear she was definitely one of the favorites on here. And what's more, she seemed to really enjoy the interactions, as she herself mentioned she craves social contact.

Which is going to make how E: D handles things over the next twelve hours very, VERY crucial. They've already dug themselves a hole, but if Sarah's departure is greeted with little to no fanfare- no Goodbye thread she can participate in, not so much as a 'We Know you Guys Will Miss Her, She Was A Fantastic Mastermind of Mischievous Mayhem' announcement, etc- then it does kind of kick any claim to being part of the community squarely in the ribs. If they're reading this thread, and if it IS, for whatever reason, super crucial she be sealed off from the forums, then at least allow her a proper send-off. What's irritating is, apparently, the primary activity thus far witnessed has been deletions of her prior posts- even if she did it, it was likely at her employer's behest, for reasons others have already stated- which is just kind of rubbing salt in it.

And if you happen to be reading this, Sarah, I offer a Kirby hug. (>^_^)>

Update to what?

https://www.frontierstore.net/

You're assuming Elite: Dangerous is where she is working, but they've already got the money they'd get from sales of that - they're not likely to sell any more copies because of improved AI. But Planet Coaster might be running behind schedule...

Entertainment is absolutely the last thing in this world to get upset about.
That's one idiotic statement to make to be sure. A cliché that shows a lack of appreciation and acceptance of the human condition.
Art, entertainment, science and mathematics.
They're all manifestations of peoples' efforts, work and pleasure, in the giving and the receiving, in the appreciation, acceptance, understanding and empathy.

She seemed genuinely interested in engaging with us. And her passion for what she was doing really shone through. I'll miss her AI posts on here:(

Oh, I absolutely appreciate the effort - I was just really over the "my minions" stuff and all the forum fawning. S'okay, I'm sure a lot of people find me annoying too. :)

I know the Clipper and other fast ships have docking computer issues - it's a shame that won't be fixed soon, by the sound of things.
