You know what? I get that. Some of these made-up books they call "novels" expect me to use my imagination. What's all that about, then? Surely they can just make a movie? But that's no solution, either. Some of these fictional movies will have Daniel Day-Lewis in them. We're apparently expected to pretend that he is not Daniel Day-Lewis, but Shouty American Moustache Man. I know who Daniel Day-Lewis is - he doesn't sound anything like that normally!. It's laughable, really. I paid my ticket - I don't expect to have to employ my imagination to do your job, Hollywood! And don't even get me started on the theatre.
You know what? I get what you're saying also!
I think the "imagination" argument is a conflict between two opinions;
I might say that FDEV use some imagination to make this epic, cool space-based game even more epic and cool, by adding nice touches like a visual experience of Jacques jumping.
You might say "well see let's just offload that imagination to the player".
I am of the opinion that my argument is the better one, and that your argument is somewhat of a cop-out, and generally generates disappointment, more than it does wonderment and excitement about the game, and leads to a beige and grim experience.
Moreover - I am an avid reader of books and have plenty of imagination. I was imagining the visuals in Elite: Dangerous when I was playing the original Elite, and when I was playing Frontier: Elite II. To then actually SEE a Coriolis station rotating in that majestic way they do in ED. Wow! To hear that hum as you pass through the letterbox. Whoa! I'll never get tired of that.
Then to have people saying "use your imagination" when it comes to Jacques, which "jumps to a new location upon a server reboot", and not only that, a refusal to use this feature as a unique way of jumping around the galaxy and exploring new areas. That's "beige".
To have people saying "Use your imagination" when it comes to station assembly - instead of FDEV waiting until they can seamlessly display the actual assembly of a station and not "station construction instantly progresses to the next stage upon a server reboot" - that's beige.
