I take my hat off to FD for keeping everything a secret for so long. Not a leak anywhere as far as I can see. However, there are a few pointers.....

DB has tweeted a picture of a Cobra MKIII on a rocky surface.
He also tweeted a picture of a strange looking cloud.

MMMmmmm..... Pretty obvious don't you think?

Not too subtle eh? ;)

Only few more hours till Gamescom live event I think

4:00 PM Wednesday, Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) is
12:00 AM Wednesday, Mountain Time (MT)

So that means 9 hours and few mins right?

Got a link to said cloud picture?!?

Oddball, +1 Because I know who oddball is and now I must go watch for the bagillianth of times
and yes, exactly what I was thinks

-Have a lil faith bayby :D

if planetary landing is announced tomorrow, I'll be very happy and I don't care what the price will be. day 1 buy for me, regardless!

although I have one reservation, it has to be like Frontier and seamless. if they stick loading screens in there or have a limited "path" you can only use then I won't bother.

Never going to be seamless. At some point we will need to leave SC and enter an instance. No getting around that as far as I can see

Sorry, might be being dumb as I don't do twitter but how is that anything to do with ED?

Neither do I, but Braben retweeted the tweet (no I don't know why or what that means) for some reason. That with the model Cobra sitting on what appears to be a lunar surface suggests planet landing.

Edit: my failure in link posting to reflect the retweet by Braben.

seamless planetary flight should only be done if :
A. gravity is simulated - and idiots who chose thrusters too weak to escape the gravity of a world without a means up purchasing a bigger thruster should be stuck there or if available, purchase a sidey and abandon their ship at the planet-side station. Hint: Escape velocity of earth is 11.2km/s and the fastest ships currently in the game boost at around 0.4km/s

B. If you enter a planet with a cracked canopy, if the planet is not earth-like, the likely poisonous and/or corrosive atmo will kill the pilot.

Seems more realistic to implement space elevators and atmospheric specific ships. This would have the side-effect of only being able to enter/exit planets with elevators.

I worry that whatever FD have up their sleeves won't live up to the forum-driven hype that we've seen here, which will subsequently result in more unbearable moaning and whining post-announcement. Planetary landings would be awesome, but it wasn't long ago (a couple of months perhaps) when FD suggested these were quite a way away. Still, I suppose an announcement referencing a date (even if it is far in the future) is possible.

Seamless planetary flight should not be done at all. There will be at least one flight mode transition from Supercruise to something else: perhaps a new mode and then another mode change to 'normal flight' or perhaps a cut scene and then 'normal' flight. (It cannot go straight from Supercruise to normal flight since the slowest supercruise is much, much faster than the fastest normal flight). Even without instancing it would be daft for there to not be a visible transition there because the flight modes are so different. Supercruise is faffing about with spacetime - your spacetime bubble moves, not your ship.

And escape velocity is irrelevant, since that applies to bodies with no thrust. You can escape at lower speeds as long as you keep burning fuel.

I am pretty sure that IF FD anounce PL tomorow then the first chunk Release will be Christmas 2015 (just airless Moons and the upper Layers of Gasgiants).

Just a gues of course, so dont beat me ;)

I could imagine that the main Team working on this Expansion since begin of 2015 (wich explain the lack of bigger update this year. PowerPlay and CQC where rather small updates for an team of 80+ people) and 1 year should be enough to create this first part of this expansion. Dont forget : DB said that they where able to to bring PL in August 2014, but only with nice looking but very empty planets.

I don't know DB at all, but I know if it was me I'd totally show you spaceships on the moon and skies and whatever, just because it had nothing to do with it. Forums bait themselves so hard that I don't know if he could resist giving it a little nudge.
