Gamescom 2015 - What will FD Unveil?

You know it actually saddens me that *some* people would get angry about the timing.

just like i know some people moaned about a steam sale of FSX being in bad taste just after the plane crash in the alps and also I heard some people moaning about advertising roller coaster games after the accident at alton towers.

the truth is, someone somewhere will always be offended no matter what you do or when, so i say go for it!... its a game for goodness sake not real life and you cant change plans just because of unfortunate timings of things in the news...

To be honest...the big game hunting thing always made me nervous because so many people in the world find the activity offensive...yes, even more offensive than killing each other. To each their own I guess. To all of them, all I can say is, it's 'just a game'.

I am pretty sure that IF FD anounce PL tomorow then the first chunk Release will be Christmas 2015 (just airless Moons and the upper Layers of Gasgiants).

FD has always amazed me how soon they are able to release updates. Christmas would be a stretch imo.

I worry that whatever FD have up their sleeves won't live up to the forum-driven hype that we've seen here, which will subsequently result in more unbearable moaning and whining post-announcement. Planetary landings would be awesome, but it wasn't long ago (a couple of months perhaps) when FD suggested these were quite a way away. Still, I suppose an announcement referencing a date (even if it is far in the future) is possible.

FD have gone out of their way to hype this up. Given the less than enthusiastic reaction to the powerplay hype, I cannot see them using terms like 'game transforming' and 'colossal' without it being at least fairly big. There will always be people who are unhappy, no matter what the announcement is: some still think it is walkies, despite the denials, some thing planetary landings are a waste of time, some seem to think FD will do a big announcement about level 2 NPCs or passenger missions. I suspect it will be received fairly well.

There must be at least a dozen posts on this thread alone, pointing out that this was explicitly denied by FD. The Gamescom announcement has nothing to do with walkies.

Didn't realize that. Been paying attention on and off recently. Guess it is to be expected I would miss some stuff. So planetary landings, then? Or my previous long shot guess that it would be Thargoids, because almost nothing has been said about them other than the area of space they inhabit is inaccessible right now.

I do agree that no matter what FD announce, there will be forum backlash. But honestly I think FD are too smart to let the forums bother them too much.

Though with PP, wasn't it just Michael B. that was talking it up so much? I get the BGS is his bread and butter, and PP is a major player in that kind of stuff (factions and what not).

This update, whether it was learned from previous mistakes or is just a measure of how important it is, appears to have the careful planning and attention of a major PR event. All loose ends have been tied up, leaks have been avoided and messaging is consistent. All signs point to this being planned long in advance. I honestly can't say what of any speculation is closest to the truth. The obvious stuff that it isn't, has been ruled out...but there field is still so wide...I can't take this...I'm going to need a sleep aid.

I take my hat off to FD for keeping everything a secret for so long. Not a leak anywhere as far as I can see. However, there are a few pointers.....

DB has tweeted a picture of a Cobra MKIII on a rocky surface.
He also tweeted a picture of a strange looking cloud.

I've just checked Braben's Twitter feed. I saw the odd shaped cloud picture but, unless I'm blind, I couldn't find any picture of a Cobra on a rocky surface...

EDIT: never mind. I finally dug it. In the browser, the post's picture didn't display in full, was missing the bottom part.

I now agree, specially for the Cobra picture, that's it's very intriguing...

Well, thargoids were a long shot anyhow. Basically came up with the idea that it might be them based on the fact that they could work as an expansion, not many would really be happy about them being an expansion, especially the first expansion, and it was something nobody seemed to be expecting. Seems everyone is expecting it to either be planetary landing or out of cockpit stuff, because they have been long touted as probably the first two expansions. So I am half expecting they are going to throw us a curveball, and pick something no one expected.
But, it definitely sounds like planetary landings. Everything else that makes sense for a "major announcement" seems to have been ruled out by now.

I'll just copy&paste something...

These only apply to potential game play on planets/moons without an atmosphere...later stages of planetary landings(gas giants, earth-like worlds with wild life and cities) not included. These would of course add even more possibilities.

• Take photos of locations (spy missions, or prepping missions for colonization)
• Do bombing raids on factories/pirate bases.
• Launch probes into the ground for detailed scans and samples.
• Deploy mining devices.
• Scoop rare organic compounds from geysers on ice worlds with and underground ocean.
• Potentially find rare ruins or other artifacts from long lost civilizations.
• Maybe be able to deploy a remote controlled vehicle of some sort for more detailed interactions.

If only we could do half of those things right now, in space, I'd be happy.

This will be the maximum because we must not dream. Complete planetary landings (on planets with missions) is a project too important to be released at the end of 2015. So rocky moons and asteroids seem well. If the announcement is PL ...

And back to the announcement, yeah, it'll be PL and I for one am well excited!

Don't think there is any way thargoids could be a paid expansion (they have said they are a long way off anyway so I am talking generally here not about Gamescom) A paid expansion would have to be optional content that is not available if you have not purchased. You can do that with walking about your ship and PL but Thargoids would have to affect everyone or it would not work.
