Just being a pedant. It sort of does not concern me, since I have the expansion pass, but if I was an ordinary backer waiting for something other than the exploration placeholder we have, I would not be doing cartwheels at having to pay for a full price game to get some additional exploration content.

Nope. PL was the 'obvious' announcement, since they ruled out going walkies, and thargoids.
So it's a contest of empty promises now?
The Holiday Season usually means round Christmas time. Especially since it's now August and I do believe I read December in there somewhere.
Expansion Pass to the Horizons (release) and Beta Access are slightly different matters.
Summary:
If you have PREMIUM Beta (see store) or Alpha you can early access to expansion(s) ..
STANDARD Beta is NOT valid on expansions (is valid only on 1.0 releases)

How long will the beta last? Like a month or so? This holiday is obviously Christmas for a release. I think i'll wait on pre-ordering until we get a more solid day including beta access times and what not. Undecided if i'll go for the beta pass or plain pass.

I am surprised no one has mentioned my personal beef with the name of the expansion. They should have totally used the chance to drop the "Dangerous" which always seemed somewhat redundant and arbitrary, adopt the name "Elite: Horizons" instead and keep it at that forever. Sounds much more epic and inspiring to me.

So wait ... I get criticised for saying something *I* came up with should be written a certain way and Frontier made a mistake to change it (by adding a colon) ... but you are saying it's not OK for Frontier to write something *they* came up with how they want to?

Yes. The Lifetime Expansion Pass also grants access to the beta of the Elite Dangerous: Horizons expansion season when it's available.
The LEP gives beat access no?
Don't get me wrong, I've no personal interest in the beta, but the way I read it is ' you buy the LEP now and you get beta access to EDH'
I am slow on the uptake today, so admit I may be missing something obvious.
