I've never tried to trigger the bug deliberately but it's happened accidentally often enough that I have a very good idea how. But I'm not going to detail it because it is an exploit. There is a consensus not to use it.

I know how it works and after I confirmed it, I submitted it as a bug.

It is a know exploit and knowing how ed treat players who knowing use an exploit, I will not say how it works or use it myself.

GUYS! i solved it

WE are the dark wheel! the dark wheel is metaphor for these threads and the community effort to solve the mystery!

Re: shape of the UA is important, perhaps we should open it somehow.

Did anyone try to use a hatch breaker limpet aimed at the UA?
Did anyone try to fire a mining laser at the UA?

Yes for the mining laser.
The limpet I'm not sure (perhaps meTree did it), but should be done if not.

Hm, I was contemplating the hatch breaker yesterday, but ended up not daring to press the button. My guess: it does the same as the scanners: nothing, not even start. But I'll try later.

Mining laser: it's been done, nothing (apart from some damage)

Edit: lol, seriously ninjad, should refresh before typing :D

We MUST try and figure out WHERE the federal ships picked up the UAs in the first place!
Don't you think?

I remember a list of where they flew to... was that on the UA wiki?

Even if I'm on this since day one, I cannot remember if this very simple test was done:

1) deploy the UA.
2) check the navigation panel and take note of all the systems in there
3) scoop the UA
4) see if some NEW system shows up with the UA in hold

I have never seen that test or done that test.

I'm beginning to wonder if there is some else out there besides the UA. Maybe the UA is a symptom and not the cause. The apple, not the tree.

I'll open a research branch within the canonn dedicated to non UA investigation. Going to load up my DBx "RSV Scooby-Doo" with scanners and other equipment. It'll be a nice break from the current treadmill :D

We cant "figure out" anything without any information, and without time travel, we have no idea where they come from. Within game code, they dont come from anywhere, they appear when you find them.
They have been followed, and seem to jump randomly, just like Hafnium Convoys

The Phages are not used to cure viruses.
The Phages are bacteria that cause plagues.
Then, to cure some viruses or plagues, we use a weak version of the same virus or phage, to make our body react to it, while it is not that dangerous as the original one in full strenght.
So, if the UA is linked to the Plagues, it's because it is spreading it, not cureing.
My opinion btw.

Actually, phages are viruses that infect bacteria. As such, they can be used to (experimentally) fight off a bacterial infection. In and of themselves, bacteriophages are not harmfull to humans or other organisms outside bacteria.
Even then, viruses are very specific and will only infect one type of cell/animal. Zoonosis (where an infection jumps a species) are relatively rare.

A bacteriophage operates by injecting its DNA into a bacterium whose cell organelles will start to reproduce the proteins which make up the bacteriophage instead of those proteins it needs for its own survival. Basically, the bacterium will start to produce more phages.

No idea how this would be related to what we see, because if it is a container for a disease, why make the container look like a blown up version of that which it contains. And if it is supposed a single phage, you do not want to meet the bacterium it is supposed to infect. And that would mean the 'pods' (sorry, biscuit rolls) are what is actually supposed to match up to the outside of the bacterium and fit in there.
Anyone seen anything with three round holes in a triangular shape in the game?

You are giving up too easily ;-)

I've tried the hatch breaker: as I thought does nothing, same as the scanners. As in I'm pressing the button in this vid, doesn't even launch.

It's also a "planet of origin" test - I've found Bob in Bast, so I dropped close to the planet - my ears are not cut out for spotting any weirdities (yes, that's a word), so please feel free to listen to it.

(it's uploading atm)

Can you guys see these vids? Or am I posting for myself?

Well sort of, I dont see any theory of any value anywhere, but it hasnt stopped me hunting.
All of the hunting through texts conflating ideas to give theoretical untestable, unknowable and irrelevant background for the UA just leaves me cold. Thats why I want multiple threads so the tinfoil hat brigade can go crazy(er) without grinding my gears.
I love you all, really I do.

We feel the same way about you guys. :)
