In the bible, the supreme ruler said people have a choice to be good of bad and the world is imperfect. In Elite the supreme Braben says the same about the gallaxy!
The Braben is in good company I say.

It's the same reason some people can enjoy classical music and art while others want to bang their heads and watch naughty films. Different strokes (no pun intended). The only reason I bought Elite was because it was multiplayer. If it were single-player-only, I would have just stuck to Oolite.
I don't understand how people can enjoy Solo mode. It's incredibly easy. Maybe if this game scaled correctly (and had more variety in systems, such as Anarchy systems actually being Dangerous), then I'd do more PVE stuff. The mere fact that this game is multiplayer (despite how pathetically it was implemented) is where it shines. This includes every aspect of multiplayer - from co-op PVE to roleplay piracy to chasing down and killing players in PVP.
But classical music challenges me (and I enjoy it for that). Solo mode does not. It's the same reason some people can enjoy classical music and art while others want to bang their heads and watch naughty films. Different strokes (no pun intended).
That's just my opinion and I'm glad there are solo and group options because it cuts down on the entitled whining posts on this forum.

Well, I guess that's the nice thing about it.You don't have to![]()

That's funny, most of the entitled whining that i read on the forums doesn't come from solo or group players.
Solo is objectively easier, though. However, your other points stand true - I do think that people should be able to play whichever mode that they wish.Well the solution is pretty easy, you play Open, wohoo for you. Yet there are others who don't want to be attacked by Commanders, they play either in Solo or in a Group. It is their choice, just as playing in Open is your choice. It doesn't mean it is easier, harder, good or bad. FD gave the players an option of playing in whichever mode they want, just because those who choose to play in Open think they are superior doesn't mean they are.
What happens when someone suggests that Solo/Groups players' actions affect their own galaxy? There's obviously whining on both sides. That's funny, most of the entitled whining that i read on the forums doesn't come from solo or group players.

All of those same NPCs are in Open mode - plus, you have to deal with an additional, much more intelligent, and much more unpredictable human element. How would that be anything other than more difficult? So tell me again, how Solo is so easy and Open is so hard? Most players avoid Open not based on the skill of the opposition, they avoid it based on the maturity of the opposition!
Ahh yes, the classic "players who don't want to play my way must be immature, childish - let's throw in that they're fans of of Call of Duty, too" argument. Most players avoid Open not based on the skill of the opposition, they avoid it based on the maturity of the opposition!
Easy solution: Get a posse together and hunt them down.
But solo/groups players do complain whenever Open players suggest that solo/groups players should not affect the Open galaxy.I don't believe I've ever seen an open or group player complain that those in open affect their galaxy, but seen plenty of open players making exactly that complaint regarding the other modes.

But yeah, I don't want to get this thread merged.
On the topic of "griefing," I think PVP (consensual or otherwise) is one of the most fun parts of this game. It was literally the only thing keeping me playing the game for a few weeks after PowerPlay came out.
