In the bible, the supreme ruler said people have a choice to be good of bad and the world is imperfect. In Elite the supreme Braben says the same about the gallaxy! ;) The Braben is in good company I say.

The only reason I bought Elite was because it was multiplayer. If it were single-player-only, I would have just stuck to Oolite.

I don't understand how people can enjoy Solo mode. It's incredibly easy. Maybe if this game scaled correctly (and had more variety in systems, such as Anarchy systems actually being Dangerous), then I'd do more PVE stuff. The mere fact that this game is multiplayer (despite how pathetically it was implemented) is where it shines. This includes every aspect of multiplayer - from co-op PVE to roleplay piracy to chasing down and killing players in PVP.

It's the same reason some people can enjoy classical music and art while others want to bang their heads and watch naughty films. Different strokes (no pun intended).

I got my fill of multiplayer back in the day when little kids got microphones and the rampant idiocy began. People took things too seriously, everyone was a grinder, wanted you on their team. Every little exploit, glitch, nuance in the book was being used by everyone who was anyone in the game. It was adolescent at best, even good games were ruined by it. So I decided to stick with single player and co-op games where I could decide who I was playing with, and I decided the game would have a finite life span and I would move on instead of doing whatever I possibly could to milk another month out of a multiplayer experience. Quite often it's roaring fun for the cliques but mind numbingly stupid for the casual relaxation player.

But classical music challenges me (and I enjoy it for that). Solo mode does not.

The link you provided for the Mod saying it is part of the game is only discussing if the Thread is a duplicate thread or not

Well the solution is pretty easy, you play Open, wohoo for you. Yet there are others who don't want to be attacked by Commanders, they play either in Solo or in a Group. It is their choice, just as playing in Open is your choice. It doesn't mean it is easier, harder, good or bad. FD gave the players an option of playing in whichever mode they want, just because those who choose to play in Open think they are superior doesn't mean they are.

Solo is objectively easier, though. However, your other points stand true - I do think that people should be able to play whichever mode that they wish.

That's funny, most of the entitled whining that i read on the forums doesn't come from solo or group players.
What happens when someone suggests that Solo/Groups players' actions affect their own galaxy? There's obviously whining on both sides.

I agree. I personally like the potential challenge and danger playing in open provides as well as the occasional pleasant player interactions and discussion. There is nothing wrong with playing in solo though. In fact, it is often the smarter way to play to accomplish specific goals.

How is Solo easier? Lately every combat battle I have fought in Open wasn't skill based, it was who had the most SBC's fitted (I don't have any BTW), and if you do get the upper hand the guy who attacked you Combat Logs out. You don't get that in Solo. In fact thanks to a mysteriously missing Queen of the Minions, the NPC's can be quite difficult to beat, especially if they are in a wing. They don't CB, they don't stack SBCs, they will ram you, they have unlimited ammop and they will swarm you if you are Wanted.

So tell me again, how Solo is so easy and Open is so hard? Most players avoid Open not based on the skill of the opposition, they avoid it based on the maturity of the opposition!

Mods are not 'official' sources for what the Frontier Code of Conduct says, or how it is applied. We are charged with enforcing forum rules and helping keep this discussion board running smoothly. Player conduct in the game is out of our purview.

That said, my *personal* feeling is that if you play in Open you take your chances. You can block players. You can play in private groups. You can report any really offensive behavior to customer service and they can investigate.

Otherwise, playing in Open means you're playing with others, and what constitutes 'griefing' to one person may not to another.

Without wanting to get this thread merged.... I don't believe I've ever seen an open or group player complain that those in open affect their galaxy, but seen plenty of open players making exactly that complaint regarding the other modes.

Open is only harder if you happen to meet a skilled CMDR. Apparently open is pretty empty....

All of those same NPCs are in Open mode - plus, you have to deal with an additional, much more intelligent, and much more unpredictable human element. How would that be anything other than more difficult?

Ahh yes, the classic "players who don't want to play my way must be immature, childish - let's throw in that they're fans of of Call of Duty, too" argument.

But solo/groups players do complain whenever Open players suggest that solo/groups players should not affect the Open galaxy.

But yeah, I don't want to get this thread merged.

On the topic of "griefing," I think PVP (consensual or otherwise) is one of the most fun parts of this game. It was literally the only thing keeping me playing the game for a few weeks after PowerPlay came out.

I would agree that consensual PvP is a great thing for those who want it. Non consensual, not so much.
