The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

Scarab needs undercarriage LEDs, loose parts so the woofers rattle every part of the vehicle, fartcan exhaust (even if it's not internal combustion), giant park bench wing on the back and 7 year loan for 12x the value of the vehicle.

Oh and dubstep. Lots of dubstep.

I'd love to be able to outfit a SRV for different tasks like sensor equipment to sell data (mining, cartography, etc.) to organizations, different guns for combat, adjust the components to maximize the performance to my needs (choose different suspension set-ups, tire treads, drive-trains, etc.), have an electric option for endurance and have the ability to use the fuel tank for performance and a G****** CUPHOLDER!

I find that Horizons will offer so much game play if you add these elements:

SEEDING A PLANET WITH LIFE ( TERRAFORMING, PANSPERMIA, EVOLUTION & CIVILIZATION )

- First you Terraform a planet, player can buy ultra large and expensive planetary terraforming machines that creates planetary atmospheres overtime
- Once a planet develops the right atmosphere, you bring colonizers to the planet to seed it
- Players should have the ability to collect rare animals and plants from other planets and bring to the terraformed planet
- After some time, you can visit the planets to see the continuous evolution of plants, animal species and the civilization of the colonizers (time based, ex. monthly or weekly progression)
- Civilization should flourish overtime and once the civilization becomes advanced enough, they can join the existing powers and political empires

I feel you have the wrong idea about the timescale.

Terraforming a planet would take generations.
The installations to do it would probably strain corporate budgets, let alone the budget of individual players.

"See the continuous evolution of plants and animal species"? LOL.

How long do you plan to play this game? 100 million years?
Even the Cambrian explosion took around 25 million years.

Why I do not do missions and a plea about planetary landings.

Is it due to the lack of variety. No.

Is it due to the lack of income from them. No.

Is it due to the fact that I have limited time to play and I am unsure how long the mission will take. Yes.

Trading does allow play in one hour or less periods as does exploration and also combat.

I hope the planetary landings will allow play in periods less than an hour.

I disagree, nearly all missions are very short-termed.

And except for maybe some mining missions, they certainly take less than an hour.

Agreed. Try a few different missions types and you'll soon find out which ones take a long time and which ones don't. Aside from some loss of rep/influence there isn't too many consequences for failure either, except in the case of a trade/cargo mission and you should know how long that's going to take (hint: don't take cargo to Hutton Orbital)

Indeed, even the mining ones can be done in shorter time frames if you mine in advance in time blocks as small as you like and then go pick up and turn in the mission. I think the longest any mission ever takes me is 20 minutes and those are kill lots of pirates in systems with no RES.

edit: though I would like to see more in-system mission, it doesn't always make sense that a local faction would send me to another system to take care of pirates and then another local faction in that system would send me back to my original system to kill pirates, wouldn't you take care of your own first?

Most delivery missions can be done in little more than 5 minutes, as most of the time the target system is the next closest one in the nav panel.

I do not play very much at all yet I manage with the missions. If you cannot contribute an hour to any game I would probably recommend a different hobby - or to wait until you have the time.

I agree, this is one of the main reasons i stopped playing - the inability to pause, despite having no interest in multiplayer mode.

Now i play GTA V instead - the cars actually handle like cars and not submarines, although you can also pilot submarines if you wanna recapture that Elite: Dangerous feeling without the grind and while being able to pause anytime. You can't save mid-mission, but most can be completed in a few minutes to half an hour tops...

My impression is that it'll be another few years at least before ED's worth the effort, if ever... Til then GTA satisfies all my sandbox yearnings..

I really do not get what this is about.

Playing for an hour is no problem
The missions are reasonably timed and you mostly do get ample time to finish them.
For example 18 hours to finish off 16 pirates should not be a problem. You can do a few today and if real life gets in the way you do the rest tomorrow.
Most assassination missions give you a full day. No problem either, but they can be done in under an hour easily.
There are a few quick courier jobs, but they pay very badly, so in general I never take them.
Hauling missions... no problem either. They can be done within an hour easily.
I take loads of well paying hauling missions. Never had a problem once.

I don't see a problem at all.
You must be playing a game I don't know. What is it called?

Same answer.

Bye then. See you in a few years!

Weeeeeellllll, they're not ALL bad. I'd like a bit more variety, though. I believe missions are getting a bit of an overhaul soon, though, aren't they? In response to the OP, there are plenty of missions on the boards that won't take too long to complete. Certainly they're achievable in well under an hour.

Same answer.

It takes me more than one hour to find and blow up 16 pirates and I may not be able to play the subsequent day.

Also I do not normally know how long my play time is, it can be cut short for many reasons and at least in trading I can just slow down and go out of supercruise and park in space.

The timer is also what puts me off missions.

The game I am playing is called Elite Dangerous.
