Hi All
Can someone explain why Kamocan's not worth fortifying? It seems to give a reasonable income if fortified.
Cheers
G
Did you deduct the 62 CC Overhead cost we have to pay after each Control System?
I believe I addressed this, but I may have been brash with my explanation. At least two additional factors need to be included when examining a system's Radius Income.
- The Radius Income displayed on the map is misleading because it shows you the maximum possible radius income, if there is no overlap or 'shared' systems between Control Systems. If you wish to see the actual radius income of a system, you need to look at its Cost if Undermined. That is the system's "exclusive income" + its upkeep. As far as Research can tell, when systems are shared, the control system which was established first retains the shared systems in its "exclusive income".
- Overhead is tacked on to our systems and does not get shown in the galaxy map. The Overhead calculation is based on the number of control systems a Power has, so it varies quite a lot when a Power have under 42 control systems. Over 42 control systems and it becomes linear, increasing your Overhead costs by 62cc per control system.
Because of these two factors, what I've essentially been saying for the past 6 weeks now is that the galaxy map lies about income. There's not really another way to approach it. Kamocan currently reads as a profit of 60cc if unfortified or canceled. So it could be a 28cc profit with Overheads factored in, provided it was fortified and not undermined. Kamocan has not been fortified without being undermined in any of the past 6 weeks. Last week it was undermined by Sunday and it still wasn't fortified by the cycle's end.
If there were enough players fortifying it early, then it might be worth preserving, but if there were enough players fortifying it early, it wouldn't be in Turmoil now. As it is, there is no mathematical possibility of retaining control of Kamocan, and without massive player support, it is not worth an attempt at reclamation.
This last bit goes to every Lavigny player reading this thread: if there is a system you have claimed as your home and wish to preserve, it is your responsibility to fortify and maintain it. We have a strong and dedicated group of space truckers who do their best to fortify our profit-making systems. We don't always get the job done every single week, so if your home system is consistently unfortified, start fortifying it.
From a mathematical standpoint, it hurts the Power to have too many deficit-causing control systems (ones that read on the map as potential profit <62cc). Heck, it hurts to have any. And there is no benefit a system gets from being a Control that isn't granted from being Exploited. So if you have a home system that would not pull in over 62cc, see if there is a nearby system within 15Ly that would, and would exploit your home system if it became a control.
As an example, when I was scouting systems two months ago, I found I really liked Maiku. But rather than push Maiku as a control system, I joined a call for pushing Teliadjali. Teliadjali has remained one of our most secure control systems in the game, due to its relatively low trigger and proximity to Kamadhenu. It is no longer my home, but sometimes I wish it was.
