Ships Python Owners' Thread

This is more of a meta-discussion question, but has anyone thought of trying 3 of Denton Patreus's Advanced Plasma Accelerators as a Primary armament on a Python? Combine that with Twin Gimballed Multis and I forsee deadly things...

I feel that this is a very overlooked weapon. It has the power and penetration to compete with railguns; and 300 rounds of ammo for long range excursions. Hit someone with a pair of these, and even the best shielded ships quickly become bait!

Here is the weapon in action, note the amazing fire rate!

Bought mine last night. Feels like a milestone even though it has a ghetto loadout and I'll need to spend a fair amount of time trading yet to be able to afford some upgrades. Carrying 272t helps though and I've still got the Vulture for PvE fun.

With three advanced PA's the 7A PD will drain real quick, form my own tests it'll supply just under 4 MW of weapon power my current loadout draws around 3.6 MW and will allow all gun continuous fire for 10 - 15 seconds.

The PA's draw almost 6 MW so even with a slow ROF the 7A PD is going to struggle and I suspect they'll be significant heat issues as well, I've played around with a class 4 in the current Beta and it's devastating when it hits but that's the problem, once the target starts maneuvering it's difficult to land a another hit,

I have run into the Heat issue with the Class 4 PA on my FDL, and I can definitely see that being a problem... Maybe put a Heat Sink on the second trigger for that FG? I don't see the ship being able to deliver long bursts either; but I think that the 1st strike damage would be spectacular! :D

as to enemy ship maneuvering, I can see that being a problem against smaller targets; but what I have in mind is a Python whose occupation is that of a "Lance Frigate": the annihilation of large targets through concentrated firepower. Imagine the effects on an Anaconda?!

Pythons are the best. I did fly an Ana for a while but it's just so slow that I had to swap back (and eat a huge loss of credits after realizing my mistake.) I have a high-end Vulture sitting docked at Sol in case of an emergency, but otherwise my Python is the only ship I need.

Currently running a solo combat spec'd Python. A couple C3T Bursts, a C3G beam laser, and two C2G multicannons. The bursts shred shields, the beam is bonus damage if I feel like something's not dying fast enough, and the cannons are for subsystems. On top of a B7 power plant and the A7 power distro, 6A shields and three A0 shield boosters and a B5 cell bank, it's a tank. My WEP capacitor never empties. Generates about 2.5mil an hour in a good hiRES instance. Still working on saving up for better thrusters, but 6Cs are working fine for now.

The only really tangible threats are wings of nimble ships; in a hiRES I ran into a wing of a Deadly Python and two Vipers with railguns and that was one of the rare times my shields actually dropped. Railguns are no joke, man.

Of course, it also sucks when every enemy ship in a combat zone decides to pick on you. :p It doesn't matter what ship you're in; with multiple anacondas, pythons, and railgun-firing Asps on you, you're lucky to get out alive.

Thanks to a 15% discount, I ended up paying only 142.6 million Quid for it.

Oh, a Python fanboys thread. :D Cool! I'm definitely one of them!

I've been flying a Python for a while, not, as many of you do, as a combat ship but more as an allrounder, predominantly as a trader. I've an A upgrade with all modules including prism shields and 208 cargo space. My primary weapons are class 3 gymball beam lasers. They heat up the powerplant and dry out the WEP-beam very quickly, but that does not matter a lot, because recovery is quick too and most PvE opponents don't last longer than a minute (except Anacondas). I kept the standard hull due to jump range. For the more agile opponents such as Cobras, Vipers and Eagles I use class 2 turret beam lasers that blow them up even if they try to outmanoeuver me.
In my opinion the Python is by far the best ship in the game, and I've tried out all of them. I flew an Anaconda for a while but switched back to the python very quickly. Too slow, too large (not being able to land on outposts sucks).

In the beta game you can buy everything for 10% or so. Thus you can test all the ships and modules. So I tried out an anaconda with maximum modifications (everything A class and most powerful weaponry), which I could never afford in the main game. And let me tell you something: I would never trade in my python for that Conda.

So three cheers for the Python!

Edit: So, here's my config (very cool tool, by the way): http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/07....AwRj4yoo.EwBhEYyrOvREA===?bn=Topcat's Python

Pythons ought to be for sale at nearly every larger hightech system. Just check it out at your nearest hightech system.

What's the insurance on a pimped out Python? Around 10mil?

Unless you've got a special status as a founder or princess Aisling's lover you will pay 5 % of the ship's value. Mine is approx. at 200 Mio. at the moment, so it's about 10 Mio Cr re-buy cost.

Everyone seems to really love that Tactical Ice paint job. :)

Myself included. I'm actually partial to the Graphite one, too, but the white and blue accent looks awesome.

Never thought about naming the my ship.....I HERE BY NAME MY SHIP "TESCO" long may she sail the black and darken sky's of the realm...

I hope never. I am not fond of this approach to take a ship, slap on some stuff to its external appearance, give it a new number or name and better stats to replace the old one, not just because of the power creep effects, but also because of all those who loved the original ship, not everone will like the new look. I don't want to be faced with the choice of replacing my Python with a Python MK II that has better stats, weapons, internals, or whatever, but some fins, struts or whatever added to the hull that I may end up finding very ugly (a process one may call starcitizenization, "just add extra bits until polygon budget reached" - I very much prefer the sturdier, cleaner design of ED ships, adding spoilers to Eagles or fins to Cobras makes them ugly, not prettier).

i know what you mean i did not jump for joy at the new eagle not after flying the original months and months ago im well passed eagles not, the same as there move on the fed ships trying to work out why have a Gunship and assault ship as Gunship is the better option id sooner see the old original ships come in than modding existing ones, thats my personal feelings.

While the Asp is my ultimate favourite ship in ED (shush, I'm an explorer), the Python is my 2nd favourite for so many reasons!

It just ticks all the boxes. Speed. Manoeuvrability. Lots of module spaces. Good weapon points. Fantastic multi-role capability.
Put it this way, flying a Python feels like flying a big Cobra.

I mainly use it for trading and mining with a bit of combat.
