While the Asp is my ultimate favourite ship in ED (shush, I'm an explorer), the Python is my 2nd favourite for so many reasons!
It just ticks all the boxes. Speed. Manoeuvrability. Lots of module spaces. Good weapon points. Fantastic multi-role capability.
Put it this way, flying a Python feels like flying a big Cobra.
I mainly use it for trading and mining with a bit of combat.

From your configs I can see a lot of you guys use fixed lasers instead of gymballed. Why do you do this? What is the advantage? Yes, maybe they are a wee bit more powerful, but on larger distances even if you're good at aiming you'll have a lot of misses and therefore lose this advantage. Or am I completely wrong?

Class 6 A Power Plant costs around ~16.2m and you get 25.2 MW while class 7 C Power Plant costs only ~5.7m. Seems a bit overpriced for only 0.2 MW of difference and since you are running at 90% with deployed hard-points is see no reason for wasting ~10m...
Also go for class 6 C Thrusters as you will get much better performance for 1.8m credits compared to 5.1m of Class 5 A.
Same applies for Power Distributor, go for class 7 C rather than class 6 A. Cheaper and almost identical in performance.
Your build is around 93.5m while this one is 77.8m

Hope it helps.
Here's my 76.2mil multi-purpose Python build: http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/05...o585801.Iw1sAyVJUA==.IwBhBYzBmXeYAmaZTnAkQ===
I tried balancing price, total range/max jump range/weight, and PvE combat prowess & manoeuvrability.
Since I have not flown the Python myself, I'd like to hear what you guys think about the build.
Good feedback, I will certainly adjust KWS and shield booster as you suggested. Thanks! The Python benefits more from another shield booster instead of dual chaff. Also, you are wasting way too much power on that B grade KWS, and can't even enable a second shield booster because of that. If you replace it with E grade and install a 2nd shield booster, you can this:
Actually, the 5A power plant could support beam turrets (98.7% w/ beam turrets & cargo hatch disabled) - but I don't think the 7D Power Distributor would cope too well. I don't want the AI firing beam lasers to effectively shut down my main weapons. The choice of weapons is decent, I use the same except the turrets are beam, as I have the 7A power plant so I can easily support them.![]()
I always thought they looked a bit like those deep sea creatures that have glowing lights to attract its prey
Just spent the last couple of days doing a Python "test drive" via the 1.4 beta test - I must say, I am very impressed with this ship and i am seriously considering trading my FDL for one.
About the only negative I can find with the Python compared to the FDL is the slower speed of the ship, the handling feels very similar. The firepower however, is just awesome, those 3 large and 2 medium hardpoints pack a serious punch, much better than I had expected and definitely better than what is available in the FDL.
Using 3 large pulses and 2 medium multicannons just shreds smaller ships in seconds!! Its a shame that the FDL does not have this configuration, as for me the huge hardpoint is a bit of a waste most of the time and I ended up using a C3 Beam.
So i was just wondering how many Python owners have switched over from the FDL and are they happy with the change?
