Ships Python Owners' Thread

The FDL is a sexier ship but is really nerfed for everything but PVP.
The Python you can outfit to do everything at once (combat/trading/exploration/missions) and just switch between gameplay options/styles mid flight without even the need to land somewhere and reoutfit. Its the perfect ship IMO

Agree totally. Python can do it all, and do it brilliantly. Got to say I am trading/hunting at the minute and haven't looked at its exploration potential yet.

I am currently using 3 pulse lasers on my large hard points with a 7C power plant and a 7A power distributor. Is it better to go beam lasers or stick with pulses? I prefer gimballed weapons.

3 large beams are definitely fun, and subjectively better then pulses. And no issues with NPC-s using SCB-s too :)
With 7A distributor one capacitor charge is enough to strip most ships shields or to kill smaller ships like viper. And overheat your ship, even with 7A powerplant. With 7C you will probably overheat too much for it to be usefull...
With bigger/harder NPC-s like elite condas you need to bring shield down to ~30%, wait capacitor to recharge and then finish it, to reliably overcome SCB-s and avoid too much overheating...

With a 7C powerplant I'd stick with pulse lasers. At 7A you've got more than enough juice and the beam lasers are great but you can cause heat damage to yourself by leaving them on too long....which generally makes me giggle :D

Pulse lasers are a great choice if you have a smaller powerplant. I have a 6A PP installed on my Python and it gives me plenty of available power and still keeps the ship light for better manoeuvrability.

Initially I used 3 large pulse lasers and 2 medium Multicannons, but recently I switched to large and medium pulse lasers on the upper hardpoints and a C3 Cannon underneath. The lasers strip shields very quickly and despatch small ships easily, I use the cannon against larger ships.

I really love the Pythons firepower - with a strong powerplant, there are so many loadout options available.

Another fun of Python here. For the moment i have it only for trading as i play with other ships. When i have plenty of credits i will upgrade it but for now it is very slow. Have put about 100 M on it.

I got my Python after restart on the game 3 times because of Iron man mode. One life one Death. Right now I am a Miner/combat Python. Note I do not Carry Insurance.

My mining python in action.
Love it. Tried the clipper but came back to Python.

Is it safe to hide from the python nerfers here?

Fought it for a while, but there's no denying I'm full well on the Python bandwagon. It's at that perfect blend of all the strengths of a large ship (big guns, robust shields, plenty of internals), yet not so big that it feels like you're flying around in a brick.

My all purpose mining/zooming around the galaxy build:
http://coriolis.io/outfit/python/

Been using it for everything. A little trading, a little combat, a little mining, which makes it perfect as an "endgame" ship, where I can float around the galaxy and take missions as the mood takes me. I can't even quite say that any of the more specialized ships would provide that much better an experience or do so much more for what I'd give up.

Truly, Python gets my vote for "Best Ship in the Game".

Doing Something Wrong?

Had my Python for about a week now.

Coming from my A-Rated iClipper, which I Love, she may be a little lacking in Yaw but makes up for it in other areas...

I bought my first Python...
Managed to get Her Important Bits A-Rated, still lacking the 7A Power Plant.
And when I take her out I find that she flies like a Brick...
I'm a fairly decent pilot flying mostly with FA Off.
And Still find myself wanting to get out and Push...

I keep reading that the Python is Tougher than the Clipper... However I'm not finding this to be the case, Yet...

Don't really mean this as a complaint, just wondering if I'm missing something obvious...

This is what I'm Running:

When I'm fighting Against Pythons and Condas they seem to be able to Flip their selves around in Half the time it takes me using FA Off...

I must be doing Something Wrong..?

I'm also playing with This Loadout: Satan's Sappository

1: Class 3 Gomboled Beam
2: Class 2 Gimboled Beams
2: Class 3 Gimboled Canons

Happy Hunting!

Your Python setup is very similar to what I use - all A rated and using the more economical A6 Power Plant, this helps keep the weight down and still provides plenty of power.

Now for the handling - this is probably the main weakness and does make you work a bit harder to keep those small targets in your gimballs. I had an FDL previously, so the Python felt very similar, especially in the slow pitch - you need 4 pips in ENG, use thrusters and FA off, but its still a bit slow unfortunately.

You could also try the trick that the FDL guys use and fly backwards to keep your target from moving behind you - it is effective when you get used to it.

However, what I did to counteract the manoeuvrability issue was to swap my gimballed Multis for turret Multis along with the gimballed class 3 Pulses. I know that turret weapons are slightly weaker and you also have the armour penalty against large ships, but it really helps your DPS against targets big and small.

So I basically strip shields with the pulses and then use multis and pulses against the hull - for me it works really well, I set the turrets to "Target Only" and if they fly above or behind me, the Multis keep hitting them until you bring the nose around.

I have used this setup very successfully in CZ and RES and I suggest you give it a try to see if it helps - I have not tried using turrets for the class 3 hardpoints yet, but that is another option.

The Python is a great ship to fly as it is so versatile and can perform very well in any role.

I hope this helps you get the most out of your new ship.

Thank You for your Encouragement Rebel801.

Looks like I was being a little Hasty in my frustration... :D

As I have today off, I decided to sneak in an early Elite session...
Flying FA Off exclusively, and working on my initial Positioning in relation to each target...
I found the Sweet Spot where the Python will turn faster...
It seems to turn best on the Diagonal, about 45 degrees between Pitch and Roll...
And the old Girl has some pretty impressive Thruster Power...

I also did some pretty thorough Ram testing.
Four Pips System Two to Engines, and an array of Four B5 SCB's(1 turned on at a time) and two OA Shield Boosters.
Started out testing direct Impact against 100% Puthons, Clippers and Condas...
She does Very Well, in most cases I'd loose only a small percentage of my outer Ring in taking the target's shields down.

Then I tried Pushing targets around and into Asteroids.
Between Thrusters and Boost-Thrusting I had Great success in pushing targets onto the rocks...

In the end I made 2 one hour jaunts into the HazRes for the CowPoos CG.
The first trip I landed with 99% Hull, four empty B5 SCB's and $2.9 Million Credits in Bounty Vouchers.
The second I landed with 100% Hull, two empty B5 SCB's and $3.7 Million Credits in Bounty Vouchers...

I'm Liking the Python More with each hour spent in the Cockpit.

Happy Hunting!

Picked up my Python the other day for trading as it was too dangerous running a T-7 alone. Must admit I'm much happier in it. I have other ships for other roles, working my way up for a T-9.

Traded my Python in for a Type 9, I love the Type 9 but I wish I had money for both, saving up for the Anaconda but getting impatient. I will most likely switch back to the Python and res hunt my way to an Anaconda. The ship is just more enjoyable.

I like it so much, I bought 3 skins for it; pirate (slick), vibrant (meh), and tactical (slick). Still trying to find it's role, but generally, it's a heavily armed trader.

My Asp is the only other ship with paint; white Apollo.

Hmmm, attachments are still down?
