Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Personally what i like less than the cartoonish looking is the simplicity of the flight model and other procedures, like entering the ship, taking off and so on, and of course the fact that is going to be released only in consoles, so the device possibilities are just limited to gamepads and not much more.

Not sure if it is for me but anyways is really amazing what they are doing.

I agree. I am not sure if there actually is a flight model at all :).
Just kidding, but with a serious undertone.
The flying in NMS seems to be an afterthought.
There seems to be nothing exciting or even remotely interesting going on in that area at all.
From what I have seen I strongly prefer ED.

I like that NMS is doing it's own thing. They're not claiming to be hyperrealistic, or the BDSSE or whatever. They're doing something special there. I like that.

I wonder though, is there any realistic chance of this arriving on PC in any reasonable amount of time?

Would be insane not to get it on the pc as soon as possible. Look at the slavering masses queueing up for the likes of SC and all the sales here in the ED land.

My guess is it will be very well received, a fantastic piece of programming but unless they're hiding gameplay until release, it might be a little limited. I hope not though.

For those of us that have followed this closely we know that the common misconceptions are mostly ill founded.

All through this thread myself and others have linked to video's from the devs talking about all aspects of the game, and it is safe to say there is nothing limited about it at all, everything from it having a PC release (that will include some modding potential) alongside the PS4, to it having a trading and crafting system alongside the combat and exploration we mostly see in the video clips. It's a complete game, in a vast universe, and while different from Elite: Dangerous will be equally as compelling, in part due to the differences.

It won't be the Messiah, it won't even be the Shoe or the Gourd, but it will be very awesome :D

New video by The New Yorker:

Is it just me or does that look glitchy as hell? Animals zipping through the grass at impossible speeds etc.

Yes, it doesn't look anywhere near as good as I was expecting.

The quality of the video is horrid, the animals in the grass I quite like, even if it is all a bit busy, but there's a dark-line 'join' in the sea at 2:15.

Then, at both 1:20 and 3:30 there's some not very subtle 'fading in' - at 1:20 it's the creatures fading in from thin air, and at 3:30 it's the cliff face and cave entrance suddenly being re-rendered at a better level of detail.

Rather disappointed tbh :-(

The second video from this YouTube post shows Sean going into dev mode, so it looks like he has been showing off the same dev-build of this game for the past year or so. Notice the HUD hasn't changed since the reveal video, and is still inactive. My guess is that they're keeping everything a secret until release like the other space-sim game developers these days.

I'm guessing much of the latest footage will be from the PS4 version? Which might explain the drop in draw distance etc. A few years back we all noticed this, and it was around the time they had announced it coming to Sony. Will the PC version be different? Often these days in AAA dev it sadly often isn't, with more or less straight console ports to PC, but this had been worked on with PC in mind from the start so hopefully we get a proper PC version rather than a ported from console version?

I'm sure we've all been aware of HG/Sean doing quite a bit more trailing of NMS on TV recently.

And now there seems to be quite an influx of rumours of a release date being annouced October 27th, with a delivery date, if Amazon's 'slip' is the right sort of a slip, being October 28th.

...As for what this might mean for "No Man's Sky's" release, some members of its community have suggested the possibility that the studio can't make the event because its designers have to prepare for an appearance during Sony's Paris Games Week press conference on Oct. 27. Such discussion was prompted by a qualified rumor source that claims "No Man's Sky" pricing and a release date details will be revealed at the convention.

To make matters even more interesting, several folks that pre-ordered the game from the Internet superstore Amazon recently received emails that their shipments would arrive as soon as Oct. 28. Shortly thereafter, the retailer sent a follow up message that read "That email was sent by mistake. We still haven't been given a release date for this item by the publisher. You'll receive another email from us soon to confirm that we don't have a release date yet."...

Nice.. So with the possibility of NMS, Infinity Battlescape, Planets coming into Space Engineers and a few other things. The end of this year, gaming wise, will be quite something. :)

In the first version there also a fair amount of popping going on, whether it was demonstrated on the PC or not. The most obvious reason to reduce draw distance is to reduce the poppin. They also clearly upgraded some of the assets in some of the latest versions they shown off, prettier assets probably meant something else had to be sacrifice, draw distance for example.
