The Exploration Discussion Thread!

OK, so just managed to hit 2KLY/ hour running on half a tank (there's no shortage of scoopables right now) and hitting the FSD once the temperature cools to around 55% rather than 40%.

Running hotter, lighter and faster. Possibility of making it to Sag A* this evening with a concentrated effort.

Mmmm...try searching for the Cone Nebula. Its only small and I think it was about 1kly past Barnard's Loop towards the rim. I think there was either a Wolf-Rayet or a Carbon star a few light years before you get to the Cone Nebula if your coming from Barnard's direction :D
Am heading for the cone nebula now. After that I think I will head back home. I am getting quite curious to see how much credits I have made from the exploration data. I have absolutely no idea how much it might be. Exploration isn't really about the credits, but anything over 4mill and I think I will be happy with that.

Yeah, I agree. It's not something I do for the money, its nice to earn a bit though but I really just view any cash I make as a bonus :D I get my real income from some stealthy smuggling :D

You should head for Sag A next, there's loads of interesting stuff to see on the way out. I'd promised myself that I'd make a straightforward run out but I keep spotting things that pique my interest. I'm currently about 4kly off course! :D

I decided to make the trip and got myself the DBE. Having kids of my own means there are 2-4 day stretches I don't get on, but I'd say I'm in my 5th day of travel, a little over 2500ly from where I started. I've found one undiscovered earth like with a terraformable sister planet next door. I know at my pace it will be months probably until I get back. Forgot the ACMU and by the time I realized, I was committed, so just taking it careful, though twice those damn M class stars have pulled me in.

Quick question, how does "first" discovery work? Is it first person to get the info back, or do you retain the "first" as long as you don't die? See you guys out there. Or not.

First person to sell the data.
I haven't got an AFMU, don't worry about it. Just remember not to crash into any stars.
When I get back - a few weeks yet - I've got an exploration ready DBX waiting for me, I'll be hopping in that and seeing how far out I can get, just for the view

At last!

Finally, after around 15kly, I've found my first Earth Like World on this trip! :D

What's really weird, is that it's orbiting a Neutron Star! (you can just about see it, and the lensing effect that is caused by it's mass, just below and to the right of the Nebula at the top of the pic) I really wasn't expecting to see that! :D

Tried sending you a wing invite earlier but obviously no luck, I'm well and truly stumped as to why it isn't working :(

Hi Stitch, nice to have another Cmdr heading out to the Core :)

The DBE is a great little ship and will serve you well, I've spent a lot time in mine and really rate it!

There's a few of us making the trip on this forum and some of us have added each other just because its pretty cool to keep track of each others progress on the galaxy map. Feel free to add me if you fancy it, maybe some other Cmdr's that are doing it might want to add you too but I can't speak for others :)

I'm also crammed a few fuel limpets aboard my ship, so if you fall prey to the dreaded Brown Dwarf Fields feel free to give me a shout :) Although the Fuel Rats (awesome guys, awesome service!) would definitely be a better option for you at the moment as your still pretty close to home, plus they are the professionals! I'm about 13kly away from you at the moment :D

Anyway, hope you have a good trip and best of luck :)

May the Neutron Stars by merciful! :D

Nice m8,do you still get free hugs?
There used to be a brown dwarf in Sagittarius a I think named free hugs.

Hi guys I'm on my way to the core! Been to the lagoon nebula , omega and passed the Eagle nebula 1200lyrs ago so making good progress been 3 days so far! Found 2 earth like planets but my favourite so far is a Red dwarf with a massive asteroid belt which looks cool! Did take a picture so will upload soon if people want to see it?

Awesome! :D Been checking on your progress all night, you really got a shift on!

Looking forward to your pics :D

I've just nailed around 10KLY in about five hours so my eyeballs have the HUD burned into them at the moment! The final 4KLY was absolute chaos plotting and I could only get plots of 338LY to stick and travel and even then it took a few minutes to route.

Made it in just over 4 days with no damage at all! Special thanks to the ASP that got me here... it's one hell of a ship.

That's some serious flying Cmdr! :D

I'm really not looking forward to dealing with those plotting issues again! But it sounds like you were getting decent plots in a reasonable time (for the core anyway) so maybe FD have tweeked it a little? Hope so :D

Anyway, well done on making the trip, and kudos to you for making it with no damage! Great bit of piloting! :D Definitely worthy of some rep!

Awesome pics aswell! Sag A looks like a bit of a monster :D

Are you going to head straight back to civilization or have a bit of poke around first? A visit to the Great Annihilator maybe? :D

Hi Splinter, if you've got pics post them up, I reckon we all love a good pic on here :D

Keep us posted on your progress too :D

Best of luck with your trip Cmdr :D

Just come across a type of Star that I've not seen before. Its a class C-N which is apparently a variant of a Carbon Star, and as such, its a whopper! :D

I'm currently in the Stranoa AA-A H3 Nebula, about 18.8kly out and 1.3kly 'up'.

I love it out here :D

Going to start the long trek back home to hand in all this discovery data. If I had larger fuel tanks and a surface scanner I'd probably have stayed out here longer.

I've been lucky in the fact that I've only ran into a handful of neutron stars, you really have to be on the ball with them!
