Came back to play after giving it a break for months, lost everything to an elite python in a normal trade run. I quit.

The issue, though, is when I'm in my pure trader, I'm unarmed, a risk I take, but I do have shields, to assist in my get away. Pre 1.4 that was enough, post 1.4 my shields are two shot, and I barely get away with 10% hull, and then get immediately interdicted again.

Another issue is server lag for those of us in the States. Causing the NPC's to auto win interdictions. Which, I believe, FD recognize and are working on.

Flying without weapons is pure silliness! I fly a T9 with the smallest shields I can (to max out cargo space), but for safety reasons I fitted two sets of SCBs that regen my shields fully with each discharge - which I can do 5 times. Sure, I sacrifice a bit of range and some cargo space so that my max cargo is 488 vs 500, but it provides some added peace of mind, as do my 3 turreted pulse lasers, 2 gimbaled beams, 2 chaff launchers, 1 ECM and 1 shield booster. Losing a fully loaded T9 can easily cost 8M (or a lot more), and the risk simply isn't worth it to save a tiny bit of space/weight, IMHO of course.

Either you've been under a rock, or you've stopped playing Elite long enough to just come back to the forums since 1.4 hit. There have been dozens of threads here complaining that FD went way too far the other way with interdictions. Those that have no problem with them are either flying nimble ships, or don't mind the so called "challenge" of being interdicted every 5 seconds, with no chance to succeed.

I have been playing plenty since 1.4.
I manage to evade most interdictions even in a Fed.Dropship, which is a heavier hull than the Anaconda. There is plenty of room for success in interdiction evasion. Don't generalize if you fail most of the time.
The problem was that before it was too easy and people got complacent. And some that are plain bad pilots got the impression they are good because they never fail. Then it got harder and many of those just preferred to complain in the forums instead of looking at their flying techniques.

Man, cool stuff like this never happens to me....

You're absolutely right about it not being worth flying without protection, you'll have to do dozens and dozens of unshielded trade runs to make up for a single loss, even at very high profit margins, 20T or 2 ly jump range is just not worth the risk.

Sounds like the interdiction mini-game is broken. If you are winning the interdiction what's the point of even trying if there is no point to the mini-game if you can't win in certain instances due to some bad design decision. Sounds like FD is making progress in turning people away from the game.

The problem is when your interdiction target is in front of you one second, then the next second it's behind you. Or you have your reticle on target, yet the red bar continues to rise for the NPC. There are factors, besides skill, being looked at by FD, such as server lag. Don't generalize it as being all skill based.

I thought they toned it down a few days ago with the last patch. I've successfully evaded most, but not all NPC interdictions that have come my way. Also, I generally try for a bit and if it looks like I'm going to lose, I throttle down and submit. The instadicted thing happened to me mostly before the last patch (when indeed it was quite hard). Perhaps I'm mistaken and it's just been dumb luck? Anywho, they seem to work on the balance often enough. I'm sure a sweet spot will be hit sooner or later. Must say I've enjoyed the thread and I'm glad OP asked for it to stay open.

OP again :] Just caught up with the thread a bit more. I did not know about the high wake strategy! I will remember to do try this :] The pirate broke me from SC so close to the station I now wonder if i might have been better off flying there in normal mode to save my ship from all the heat damage i took charging up the FSD xD thats what was killing me the most now that i think about it.

i am pretty certain it was my third death, one or two being noobie moves when i first started, so i guess it was just my time. i suppose that means i was doing rather well during my prime of playing ED. i know now that it also says a bit about the state of the game during the time i played VS now. and that helps a lot too :]

speaking of noobie death, ill share my first one because it was pretty dang silly. i was in the starter zone with the eagle i had from the late preorder. i accidentally fired my weapons at a target instead of the bounty scanner. I don't know why i did what i did next, but i figured since i was already wanted after one misfire, that i should just kill him.

18k permanent bounty on me in that system. far more than i could afford in my first few hours of the game!!

i still have yet to return to pay this bounty hahaha! maybe i ought to finally do that, but im flying a sidey there (see? i did learn a thing from this thread <3)

thanks again cmdrs for the help/motivation :]

I really respect that you came back and addressed the issue in a thread that's been, frankly, more hostile than it needed to be. If you ever want an escort in fully a-rated Battleconda, hit me up and I'll give you some support. My CMDR name is the same as my user name.

edit-though I'm currently 15k light years from inhabited space, I should be back late tonight or early tomorrow.

Hey commanders, OP here. Sorry it took me so long to reply to my ragerant. I had to get the mod to reopen it back up because I wanted to sort of apologize and also say thanks to those who gave very positive/informative replies about what I could have done better, and what has changed about the game since I last played. It is obvious I am not active on these forums and it looks like I signed up just ragequit.

Admittedly, I am quite embarassed that that is true >.<

I will also admit, that in my rage I left out the fact at how epic the experience actually was. I've cooled my jets and realized that my body was shaking and I felt a level of fear that I typically don't feel in games. As maddening as the experience was, and unfortunate (despite being cocky with my new toy), it was a good story to tell my friends about the next day. I also realized I miscalculated how much of a loss I was really taking.

Soooo!!! Thank you those who gave good replies, because you must be a good kind of person to offer a bit of yourself to someone who very obviously was rage-quitting. That says a lot about you, and something about the community too.

So my form of repayment for being a crybaby about it, and to respect those good peoples out there in this dangerous galaxy, I am already, and will be giving the game another chance with a more objective mindset. I have already taken this opportunity to trade my type 7 in to pay off my claim, and bought a cobra, completely kitted it out, and I still sit on about 6.5 mil.... rebuy is about 500k i think? I've opted out of powerplay for now until I can understand it better, and I will be dabbling about the galaxy doing whatever seems good at the time until I find a something more permanent thing to do.

And yes... I will probably still get horizons because im a sucker for planetary landings <3

Now this is class! +rep chap, glad to see you gave it another go :)

I had a rage moment like this too. I finally ground my way up to a nice shiny and well-upgraded Viper, then went out into Open to try my luck as a bounty hunter. In literally the first RES site I went to, someone in a FDL decided to ram me to death. I turned to escape on 10% hull, reasoning that he couldn't catch me. So he opened fire and just accepted the bounty. I lost like half a million credits in bounties... Which would have been enough to take me back up to being able to afford the insurance. But as I lost it, I didn't have that insurance. So back to a sidey for me.

I was so :):):):):):) at the time. But in hindsight, it was a good lesson: I should have run the instant the FDL started ramming me rather than trying to avoid him.

Seriously? ':):):):):):)' is considered a swear-word? Wow.
