HEY!

I pushed that idea for ages in mega 2.... How dare you support me, without telling me you are supporting me. You should support me by quoting my posts in order to show you are in fact supporting me.

;)

^^

that hurt my brain :p

When two independently minded people come up with the same idea, it must be good, or we must be both bonkers!

I Salute You, Cmdr.

Hey, don't blame me because you have no will power :p

Oh I have _some_ will power, I just know your game buddy :D:p, I just checked my logs and you sent me a dodgy (forum) packet that was deliberately designed to turn my mischievous setting from 0 to 1 lol

The depths of my psyche are optional, a free DLC if you like - I didn't force you to partake, just because we have sweeties, naked bodies and beer - you don't have to join in :p

Damn it, you kept that quiet, name the station I am on my way (see above for _some_ will power) :D.

This is not a bad idea.....

While part of me wants to name an "off topic" thread for this one: S.O.G Support Group, I do have other names knocking about the depths of my mind.
Be afraid, very very afraid :p

I look forward to whichever name you choose for the thread, I am sure the Mods will keep it safe for reading at work no matter how hard you try :p

Yes, and here is "WHY" it is there in name (Hint: Nothing to do with the game directly - it is lore based);

Formed in 2805 after the great surge in private ownership of smaller starships, the Pilots Federation soon found a role as a conduit for trade route information exchange between trusted pilots and provided the infrastructure for a mutual protection scheme against the rising scourge of interstellar pirates.
Planet-siders began to distrust the generally itinerant nature of starship captains, who always seemed willing and able to jump to a new system before the law caught up with them. The Pilots Federation’s zero tolerance policy of dishonourable behaviour amongst its members is enforced by a system of bounties automatically placed on the heads of transgressors.
This built a galaxy-wide respect for the badge, which then started to be worn with pride by members. However, the organization’s official adoption of the 9-level ‘kill tally’ ranking system (Harmless through to the coveted Elite status) ensured the Pilots Federation retained a level of blood-thirsty notoriety.
Over the centuries the Pilots Federation has remained secretive in nature and neutral in conflicts, and has grown into one of the dominant financial superpowers of the galaxy through its GalNet data network. Originally a star chart, ship data and bounty management system, GalNet has evolved into an effective galactic infrastructure and content monopoly on news, market pricing and communication systems. This has not been without controversy, with periodic claims of data hoarding and abuse of its position.
It’s not surprising that an organization founded on status, and with such influence and power, has several cliques (The Dark Wheel being the most infamous). Or that those of Elite rank have further exploited their status and the incredible demand for their services, by forming an organization within an organization; the Elite Pilots Federation.
Relentless, increasingly well organized piracy and the need to maintain their reputation and influence as the best of the best caused the Elite Pilots Federation to start opening its membership to candidates from the Deadly rank who were able to pass a rigorous test and then, as demand continued to soar, to those from the Dangerous rank.

(So the "Dangerous" in the title, stands for the lowest rank you need to join the "Elite Pilots Federation")

Maybe this is a good reason for me to keep ignoring the "lore" and just continue to use my own imagination. So what you're saying is that Elite: Dangerous is really Elite: Well, Dangerous and above actually. We've had to lower our standards to make more money?

That is so completely depressing.

No longer is Top Gun the "best of the best". "There's no points for second place." Well, actually we'll take second place now... and third.

Lol I would have been happy with second place in CQC last night. Even when I got third or forth I still got points though.

I will never be Tom Cruise though, I am too tall, anyway I am going back to the danger zone ;)

You shouldn't let it get to you. They'll let anyone in these days, it's just a matter of persistence... ;)

"There's no points for second place" only works well for single player games. Or MMOs that pretend to be single player games when the character interacts with the world (ever wondered why, in a typical MMO, every single character is the savior of the world?).

It's why how PP works changed, players were unhappy with it and made their displeasure known when PowerPlay was still in Beta. Originally the best rewards were only for the players that contributed the most for each power; the current system rewards everyone that gets above a specific threshold, even if every single player is above that threshold.

Must be Halloween, I am feeling a bit crazy, time for a rares run in open, see you soon Diso :)

ETA, open is a wasteland, Lave, Leesti, Diso, Orrere, not a single player in sight.

Now don't tell anyone you heard it from me, its a secret.

There is no extra risk, they made it up! its a fallacy pure and simple.

The only bigger lie I can think of right now is "I am good at CQC" :p, oh well I had fun and it didn't cost me a bean :).

To me, "Dangerous" being the minimum rank for the Pilot's Federation... it's like joining Top Gun school. Being "Dangerous" is like being a Top Gun aviator - you are among the best of the best, lore-wise. AMONG the best of the best. Those who are Elite ranked... they're the best of the best... of the best.

To me, it's not lowering standards because even if everyone in the Pilot's Federation (or Top Gun school) had the same rank... there would STILL be those who are better than others within that bracket. Like the guy who gets the highest kill-score in the naval aviators' school will be the Top Gun's Top Gun, if that makes sense. Ranks above Dangerous are just like that.

But there would be the "best of the best" (in theory) out of the Elite pilots. Being Elite would have put you among the best of the best.

I guess it's ok if some random bit of lore says that the Elite Pilots Federation needed to lower their standards. It's just a bit of a shame to carry that over to the title of the game. I would have much preferred the "Dangerous" to actually mean dangerous (not safe; involving an active threat), not the Dangerous rank.

Don't worry - I'm confident that once we get our actual characters we'll be able to do virtual chest bumps, butt patting and maybe we even find a planet with sand so we can re-create the beach volleyball scene!

That's only in Open, right?
