News Horizons Beta Delay to Monday 30th November

Quick question from me: Can you please let us know the reason for that short transition?
The same reason that there is the same short loading screen between supercruise to normal space: they take place at difference scales and in different instances.

I'm not sure why anyone ever expected the transition between supercruise and planet landing to be seamless, regardless of how it was phrased--and AFAIK that phrasing was always that the seamlessness was between supercruise and orbital cruise. Planet landing takes place in "normal" space, and merging normal space and supercruise would be a huge change to the game that was never on the table.

i was happy if you tel us that you give us (horizon beta tester) an extra 1.5 acces ....but ... i think i paid for beta for nothing ...but i understand your problems david ... but ... you maybe should give us something to compensate ?

Absolutely not, enough begging for free stuff already in this thread.

I hear what you are saying, and the answer probably goes along those lines indeed. Still it would be fantastic if FDEV could confirm that the short transition is due to instance networking severing old connections and contacts / creating new ones, and not due to map loading. Or we are going to have useless debates no end, especially when comparisons with other games come up.

It is going to be a recurrent question I think, and would be great to hear it from the head honcho.

The transition from supercruise to orbital cruise is seamless - you just see the altimeter and flight ladder appear. When you drop from orbital cruise to normal flight there is a short transition, as with dropping from supercruise.

this is truly awesome.

i would really like to see this as next peek of the week
:)

edit now: never mind, as unsaid.
my apologies.

It has already been taken, prior to 1.5.

1.5 Beta and 2.0 Beta will be playing in the same worlds - though we want to encourage 2.0 people to restart (don't worry - it won't affect your main game save), as we have a new on-the-surface start position.

(Oops - I think I just made an announcement...! :) )

As I won a second account at FantasiCon a few months back with Beta Access I will be happy to reset that account to the new, ground based start position.

Its just not good enough *stamps feet* I hope to be compensated due to the trauma caused by this delay. Maybe a few hundred million credits. yeah that would reparate my faith in the space lanes :)

Following up on my previous post, the team are still working very hard indeed. We are not ready to go live with the beta today as we have already indicated was likely. We are very sorry about this, but it is not yet ready for a proper beta test because of some blocking issues. I will keep everyone posted over the next few days, and will check in on this thread from time to time for the next hour today, and will post more details here on those issues for those that are interested. We are confident in the Monday 30th date as we already have the key components to fix the issues we are seeing.

Once again, we are very sorry, and we thank you all for your support.

RIGHT ON CMDR!

Tell you what David : you tell me where the thargoid are so I can finally meet them ( to take a selfie with them not to fight them ) and I will wait and not cry anymore
( you will either say the famous "well..." Or say : I don't wanna spoil anything or say : they're coming or just gonna say : well it's simple they are in [redacted] ... , guessed right didn't I 😜 ? )
Sighs what am I thinking ... Still worth a shot to tell you how much I wanna see the legendary thargoids ...
( still crying loud by the way :( )

If you wanted more weekend pizza you only had to ask.... :p

My office is closed Thursday and Friday. Was soooo looking forward to horizons beta for the long weekend. We're ok with bugs and glitches. That's what a beta is for after all! Gimme gimme! !

FD is making something amazing and wonderful, and communicating pretty well... and then there are petty gems like this one. Game dev isn't magic (although it can feel like that), it's hard work

Aye, this fella has it right. We know that supercruise is a different kettle of fish from normal space. We know, as it's be said many many times in the past, that going from one state to the other requires a change of instance. Ergo, moving from Orbital Cruise to normal space requires a few moments while instances are checked all sort out with the main server, and any potential commanders (P2P).

Well spotted! That was an issue, but it has already been addressed. The Scarab auto-retracts its turret to get underneath. You could hear it when I returned to the Vulture in the video on Sunday.

That sounds pretty cool. Those are the little details I love about ED! :)

No problem waiting till Monday, Horizons is a huge undertaking - essentially a new game - and it's more than understandable that there might arise unforeseen issues.

Thanks for the update!

Hmm. Probably going to have to switch my pre-order back to the standard version of Horizons, then. For it to be worth paying for Beta access for me, it really needed to be out this week for our holiday here in the US. The first week of the month is always the busiest for me, so my play time is extraordinarily limited.

Nice that everyone else's schedule allows for them to be completely cool and consolatory, but that definitely isn't going to be me and I consider it a painful miss. That's why refunds are a thing I guess. Hope they make it out by Christmas; fairly big target date for any business product there.

Forgive me for being silly, but the very PURPOSE of a beta is to find bugs, and the fact that it is a beta denotes that there will be bugs. How can you have a polished beta? That just doesn't make sense. These days the whole beta seems more like early access, with all this 'it's not finished yet' OF COURSE IT ISN'T FINISHED, because it's a BETA.

Oh yes, as everyone says "take as long as you want." It's not as if we paid money for this beta access, is it.

I know everyone likes to have a happy-happy community spirit here; but I just want to put down that a few of us do actually realise there is a business deal going on here: we give FD money; they give us a product. I can accept a few days delays; but not the whole thanking them for that, and this essentially encouraging them to take as long as they want. No.

You haven't forgotten that our £10 paid for beta covers the whole horizons season of beta's have you?

Oh, that's a pity! Really hoped the whole way from space to the ground would be seamless. Perhaps this will motivate the talented devs to give both transitions - SC-to-normal-space and Orbital-Cruise-to-normal-space - additional effort in the future! That SC-normal space transition is the one jarring thing really not up to the otherwise sky-high standards in the presentation of ED!

Take your time Frontier!
I've one question, there will be a wipe at the end of the Beta or it will be like the "Gamma" for Elite?
