The Star Citizen Thread v 4

This moon scale is the same as in early access games - its tiny, way off from realism. Not buying it and very VERY disappointed if this is how SC star systems will be scaled.

That same streamer did videos on all other moons and Crusader, judging the scale of the Universe from the smallest moon, Yela, is incorrect, he also mentioned on Yela shouldn't be the way it is, from the Asteroid Belt to the Round form is the one that doesn't make that much sense.

The results on his calculations show that it is 1:1 Scale. For example, the Moon near the FPS station is around the same size as Earth's Moon.

After a whole day of downloading this crap, I finally gave it a go.

It's just...I don't understand how can someone design this abomination of a so called "flight model" and think it's good ?
I tried to be as forgiving as possible, considering it's an alpha, etc. but first...

- had to rebind the whole joystick controls to suit the logical layout, meaning they had yaw in place of roll, no strafing up/down, left/right, etc.
- had to decrease master sensitivity in game from 1.0 to 0.4, still sucks or doesn't have any effect
- my Constellation is just a pain to fly.

It flies something like this...
Imagine you're horseback riding. Now imagine you have a long, long stick in your hand, with a heavy stone attached to the end of it. Now imagine someone told you to hit an apple hanging on a string with it, while the horse is in full gallop.

That's how difficult it is to keep your nose on the target, or for that matter, to any point you wanna go. It's just constant, tiring, unnecessary battle with the joystick and the game itself.

My verdict for 2.0:

- Sound: 2/10
- Graphics: 10/10
- Gameplay: 0/10
- Sensation of flying a spaceship: 0/10
- Redesigned flight model: 0/10
- Multiplayer: didn't get that far, because no point.

Overall 3/10.

If I was a mouse user, maybe it would be 5/10, but then I wouldn't have backed it in the first place now wouldn't I ?

Ahh man I get your frustration totally.....and honestly I didn't even bother to play with anything but the mouse...as you said it at the end you almost nailed with my overall point mark I am more closer to the 5,5/10...:)..I suggest you to turned on game few more times and try just PU with the mouse of course and forget about the AC it's not worth it with this FM......

TrackIR is broken for 2.0 :(

Apparently it will get fixed, but I cannot really make any fair judgement on the 2.0 rollout until it does get fixed - I have been so used to having TrackIR that not having it makes it completely different game, a much diminished experience.

So gonna wait for the TrackIR patch before going any further with this.

Yeah they stated TrackIR was never properly implemented and they will give it one official support soon. I think people found a work around this on Reddit, couldn't find it.

So I hope RSI will keep it realistic - he said that the belt is unrealistic - and I agree. Hope its just a "alpha" thing. After playing Elite, I cant possibly play in tiny universe again ;)

Yes, it involves using something called PIE, which creates a virtual joystick out of just about anything. I've used it before for SC, the issue with it is that it messes up game controllers settings for all other games that do not require it. Not seriously, and can be dealt with, but it is annoying. So I am going to opt out of the workaraound.
PIE is a good bit of software, and very useful for those with modern HOTAS & Pedals who want to play old games.

Yeah i assume they may look again on it, if not to make it better, at least make it realistic to a moon that small.

The rest of Crusader scale feels fine, inside the realistic parameters for it. So SC is not a "milky way scale" universe, it's small on its playable size, but the scale of things to inside what's expect-able. I have been also into Crusader for hours and hours and i can't seem to get closer.

There's also some placeholder tech, the new Planet Shader is said to going to make a difference there, maybe... we will see that on the Dec 16th livestream, nobody has figured out yet what they are hyping so much on new tech stuff.

Yes, I was trying to get close to any other celestial body and it was very very slow - I guess Yela is really small compare to the other SC bodies, just its shape does not indicate it like it should. Its way too round and body this size would not have asteroid rings around it I think.

Darn that Crab Animations Still Broken?!

REFUND PLS.

I wanna see is when they implement the Planetary Shaders, and specially the PG Tech for Atmospheres, because the current approach is a placeholder, really excited to see the fruits of the Germany studio work on make planet approach more realistic for then, allow planetary landings with somewhat more freedom to them. :)

Ok so for me this video is a step back. In 2012 we had this, maybe 1 months after the kickstarter.

https://vimeo.com/53321312

Yeah, the whole prototype that ended up dropped/rewritten. We also need to be aware that many things they shown specially during 2013/14 was more on very early scripted demos, like the Planetary Landings, the actual tech did not existed.
So what we see today is finally, based on gameplay, the finally Ship and NPC AI coming together, not just Demos of it.

Scott Manley seems to be enjoying himself in typical Goon fashion.

I decided to have a bash at Vanduul Swarm without my beloved TrackIR, just to see the difference in flight since I last bothered - which was 1.1.

I have to say in all honesty, I think it's much better than it was. I flew a Hornet and 325a, and found I was no longer fighting against the stick to keep it all under control, I actually was enjoying it.
I understand some of you are having issues with the larger ships - I cannot comment on that as I do not have a large ship, all I can say is that the Hornet and Origin 325a now handle much better than a few months ago.

And now for a numpty noobish question. I tried the TALN missiles on the Hornet for the first time today - are they supposed to be dumbfire missiles, or are they supposed to lock-on to a target - and what the hell am I doing wrong with them, can't seem to get them fire at what I want them to? :D

Good thing, that TrackIR is working like a charm in Elite and Horizons will be released in a few days.

So glad 2.0 got released to everyone else. I am backer 360,360 so needless to say I was just shy of getting access to the PTU. So far I've been having a blast and performance has been pretty good for me using High or Ultra settings at 1080p, so long as its a good server at least.

Here's my first impressions and play session without any spoilers.

Luke_CIG dropped in on the stream and came with a little interesting info. This is pulled right from the chat.
Remember that this map is a test map and not the final Crusader map. It does not have correct scales, only ones we are testing for a variety of puproses.

  1. Can we make an object the size of Jupiter that holds up - bearing in made that Crusader does not even have our planet shader on - I think we did really well. Just wait for the planet shader.
  2. What is a fun size for a playable moon with an asteroid belt with Cruise/SCM mode?
  3. What (without our asteroid tech - coming soon tm) how many asteroids can we achieve (not counting all the other asteroid fields in the map)? What is a fun density.
  4. What distances are good for travelling at 0.2c?
so, Crusader is 1/1 scale
Yela - how big can we make it with the number of asteroids at the density we wanted, that is - until our asteroid tech comes online
Daymar - size of our moon
Kellin - she is to 190km

Would you like to try again? If so, try to hit "V" while accelerating, it's supposed to change the flight mode from "Precise" to "SCM" and then to "Cruise".
I'm out of town for this weekend so i can't really do test it now for myself
Or maybe it's just a bug =)

Right you are sir :) I jumped into a 300i to test, and yes, hitting V brought the ship up to much more reasonable speeds.

Endless Alpha is looking better and finally showing some progress. Graphics as everyone says are very nice.

Cons, the repetitious walks and wait for decompression. I view this the same as the 'blast shield' in ED, just devs wasting my time. In particular I do not like the audio. I can't stand the arcade intrusiveness of the audio announcements from outside the ship without my permission and the ship announcements just grate on me (landing gear for instance). I still totally do not understand stations with rotating rings when they have artificial gravity- that is just immersion breaking given the lore and setup.

The flight model is pure FPS turn instant everywhere; same as others have said. The 3 travel modes are interesting but why are they needed? Why not just use the throttle and maneuvering thrusters... something fishy in the flight model?

Curious about the mission system. Everyone is getting the same mission in the PTU. I can see a couple hundred thousand gamers all playing the same mission over and over to turn the radio relay back on... will seem weird. I think in this regard it will be interesting to see what SC has at 'release' versus Elite. Hand-crafted is great for single player but will this fly with hundreds of thousands of players all doing the exact same mission to a lame outpost no-one defends and keeps going offline?

Lastly, if stealing a million credit ship is as easy as walking into it then the game is in trouble of constant goonery. OK for alpha but this won't work in the persistent game. How are they going to handle stolen ships and shooting at stations? Wasn't there talk of security and security access to doors controlled by players? Currently it is too easy to take someone else's ship. I can see maybe stealing one of the golf carts that easily, but not any spaceship.

So, +1 for progress and SC finally getting to what seems like a "real" alpha state.

Next week I'll be grinding in Horizons release, but checking this thread for more news and fun circular arguments ignoring the facts. Fly safe commanders.

P.S. Mr. Nowak, tireless promoter of a different company's space game the FD forums, have you bought ED Horizons? It is the least you could do for FD this holiday season, in payment for all the shilling you do here for SC/CIG.

Can someone explain me where the fun part in this alpha 2.0 is ? I watched the 2 posted Vids and think wow boring stuff.

Some nice graphics but framerates suck. Alone most of the time, when some players show up either you grief em or they grief you.
Flying in the spaceships seem highly unrealitic to me, especialy when you turn around.

I would also like to see something new. Most vids show always the same stuff, must be lack of content i guess.

If someone show me this and ask me if i wanted to buy it now, i would say no way.
Would not even install it if you pay me 200$.

Well, nobody is forcing you to play it, neither pay so you would play it, fell free to go play some game you like!

2.0 is fun on what it is, its sandboxy approach that let's players to do what they want, either it is missions, exploring, parting with friends on multi-crew, FPS, as well other random stuff players just find themselves doing. It's not Star Citizen the game yet, it's simply the first alpha of the universe, as said "Star Citizen Alpha’s 2.0 update sets the stage for Star Citizen’s persistent universe, offering players access to multi-crew ships, large world maps and FPS combat for the first time. Citizens can look forward to additional ships, locations and game mechanics being built on top of this foundation as development progresses.".

So if someone is expecting Star Citizen already with 2.0, then that person will be greatly disappointed, if someone is expecting one early alpha that gives you a taste of things to come, then sure.

The mission system is just it's first iteration, they are already working on fleshing out new mission types, both FPS, Space, the actual NPC Missions once AI is added to the stations and land-able areas, so yeah there's much more to do, but that now the future as new patches release and release, they are focusing on the game mechanics now over actually add new content, as the mechanics need a lot of polish and several of them specially multi-crew and FPS have a pipeline of features to be added.

That's Insurance pretty much, the game is meant to have Safe areas and Dangerous areas, pretty much Danger Level, mechanics like ship locking will arrive, legal and ilegal PvP will happen, consequences to griefing / ilegal PvP will happen, but again, it won't happen on the first alpha release of the universe, but if you search about it, there's a lot of info on the design of this, things like the FPS Station will far said have actually enemy AI not really PvP, depending of them classifying that area as safe PvP or not.. Currently 2.0 is just a very sandbox environment by itself, this is why it is setup this way.

Also that last comment, FD Community Rules you know....

There is a new page on the official site for the actual Feature List of 2.0, but the nice part is now they list what's in for the next release: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/feature-list

http://i.imgur.com/2pwSv95.jpg

"IN THE NEXT UPDATE (LIST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE):

New additions
The Million Mile High Club
Character Customizer (armor / Clothes)
Increase number of supported players
FPS cover system
FPS Starts/Stops
FPS Aim/look pose separation
Physicalized EVA

Improvements
Holotable improvement
Main menu art
FPS Hit reaction
FPS No weapon locomotion
FPS P4AR polish
FPS ArcLight polish
SPACEFLIGHT UI optimization
SPACEFLIGHT Focus Mode polish"

Seems next update going to roll out new and improvements to FPS. But the major feature is really the Character Costumizer, so it seems to not imply Shopping yet, but it does imply persistence of your customized stuff towards when you join the Universe.

Did break down all of Crusader Moons on a scientific perspective, that one is from Yela.

Jesus! You better just hurry up and get your refund then, if there's a 0/10 on gameplay on this release for you on this piece of "crap", then i can only recommend you to get your money back and go play another game.
Really if this release is 0/10 on gameplay, then it will never, on this universe, reach your level of expectations.

You do know that CIG are not giving out refunds right? I am not sure how many times you have to be told this before you understand, but here it is again.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/303768/despite-what-articles-may-say-cig-doesn-t-offer-refunds-to-people-in-situations-of-hardship/p1

I lost my job not too long ago and my family's income has been cut by almost 50%. I explained to CIG my situation after having read that they offer refunds in certain situations of hardship. In response, I was given a canned response and after repeated attempts, continue to receive the same response. After what I have explained to them via email, they are unwilling to offer a refund to you if your are struggling.

So, don't believe the stories you read where Chris Roberts says that they offer refunds to people in hardships. I have sent at least 30 emails back and forth to the concierge and continue to receive the same response. Maybe you have already considered your money spent and didn't think you were ever going to get it back. However, if you did, think again. They have your money and there isn't a damn thing that you can do or that could unfortunately happen to you to get your money back.

It's easy to act like you have compassion when you are speaking to the media, Mr. Roberts, but don't lie to people. You aren't giving anyone their money back because they are in a tough situation and it's disingenuous to act like you do. Just tell everyone that their money is spent and you refuse to allow refunds.

Good luck to others who fall into similar hardship.

Regards,

Seminole
