UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

That's the thing, it's hard to say what we are looking for. It's evident from the trailer there are potentially explorable alien sites, but are they in merope? Have we been pointed here for an entirely different reason? I would hazard a guess that merope constitutes nothing more than another breadcrumb in a very winding trail, but then I'm kinda new to the whole UA thing, I could be talking out of my asp.

Something in Merope is both obvious and logical, so it ain't gonna happen. When was the last time the ua mystery was obvious or logical?
However science forces us to rule it out via experimentation

I'd bet money that interpreting the beeps from the UA whilst in a SCV is a big part of the puzzle, beeps in ship while landed on random planet, beeps whilst in an SCV on a random planet, beeps whilst in a SCV on Merope, etc etc

That should be the first stop for science, second can ofc be scouring for the green thingoes from the trailer

Not a huge amount going down on Merope 5A, although we did discover that co-ordinating multiple people at a planetary level isn't actually that tough. I'm gonna go for a more thorough scour tomorrow evening. Fuel materials seem ridiculously scarce there, so I may do a lot of it from my ship and just land at PoIs.

That's probably a good idea !

I managed to get some material for refuel on 1A in about 45 minutes. Other than that, the part I looked at was unremarkable - but I didn't look at a huge amount :)

I bought some in Varati in the beta.

I was at Kausalya when I logged in and got them there

Was 500+LY out when I finally finished downloading horizons, flew all the way back to civilisation to equip myself. I didn't stop to try landing, I headed straight for merope. So far I've found quite a lot of rocks, one other commander, and some crashed satellite looking type thingy, this is most definitely science. Rocks is science right?

Rocks are, quite literally, *hard* science :)

That's the thing: even if nothing is found, at least we've all had a directed joint effort in one place to have a go at and all become acquainted with our wheels - not to mention strategies for scouring planets etc.

When I think about the number of planets that were available for landing just while I was on my way from Kausalya to Merope, though - it's a bewilderingly huge task! Should keep us busy!

Myself and another CMDR just done some roving around, nothing of note to be found. We looked really hard though :)

At least there are plenty of materials to keep those SRV's running.

one crazy idea I had was converting the system map itself into morse, since that's how the UA's have been communicating so far, but I came out with nothing, was hoping it would translate into a system name. I think I need to stock up on tinfoil...

So is the best way to help out at Merope to jump on the Canonn TS and ask there? I am planning on heading out there for a scouting trip soon, but not sure what I should be focusing on.

About that alien thing in the trailer.
Most likely it is pre-set structure, and then the question is - where is it?

(Nothing new - just to summarize)
From the trailer, we see that:

1) It is metal-rich planet.

2) It is a planet with high gravity.

3) Since the recording was in the dark, we should see a lot of stars in the sky. But they are not there because they are closed by something. AFAIK only nebulas can do it. So our planet is inside the nebula.

4) "The Temple" is at a relatively flat surface. But the land rises towards it - so it is partially buried. This means that:
a) "The Temple" was there for a long time.
b) Perhaps it's a ship that went into the ground when it fell.

Every part of me screams: Bring UA to it!

Great to know your eyes and ears are on the lookout, Yaffle!

'Behold the power of Mod'!

Yes, they were spotted in Beta - and you're right to highlight them - a teasing description!

There are other new Trade Items from Planets that the Rares Sellers might want to investigate. I know there is a lot to do right now.

Hey, I can hop on and buy either a Cutter or Corvette fir testing if someone can confirm no one else has already supplied this. I have shadow play and a 120mbs connection with decent upload. Will I get a credit in the Canonn history books? :)

Only if you find Thargoids, when you could get the honour & privilege of donating your body (& ship) to science! :D:D
Though if things go the other way you could achieve galactic fame as the founder of a new era of technical & trading progress if you negotiate a good relationship with them

so win/win!

In the trailer seconds before the 'alien sequence' starts, there are two SRVs driving past what looks like a T9 crash site. The sky is Nebula red.

Not all T9s carry UAs, but all UAs are carried by T9s.

The star enclosure could be a nebula, or it could be a very 'dusty' area on the planet. Iirc someone in explorer section posted a screenshot (or a video?) wherein the airless planet he and others landed on had a very dusty, almost atmosphere-like haze inside a large crater.

Anyway. To narrow the haystacks a little bit - would it make sense to first check out landables in the 150ly envelope around Merope? If that fails.. I'm thinking, alliance space is likely to have something. There have been plenty of remarks all over about alliance somehow being more of a thing in Horizons season.
