UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Forgive my noobness to this subject, my tinfoil hat is still in the mail.

Has anybody tested the UA in close proximity to Voyager? is that even possible? It seems to my very extremely limited knowledge like the UA is a synthetic/organic hybrid, and may be like our voyager, but dual purpose. Possibly gathering information on humankind and human controlled space while also containing information on its origin but we simply have no current way of accessing said info.

Could the station malfunctions be mistaken for an aggressive act when in fact the UA may just be a very basic parasitic technology? If it is a synthetic/organic object then it would make sense to draw energy from a station to stay functional.

I have a strange feeling that our interaction with the UA's is in fact a kind of "first contact" and that all our interactions with them and the selling and destroying of UA's will have a part to play down the road.

Someone did it few days ago, saying the meaningful planet was not landable. BTW, needs more inspecting...

If they only went to one planet then yes very much so.....because I'd need to take out all my AMFU's to be able to scan everything there detailed and land on them there. So I'd have to dump the hanger and come back after scanning everything there.....to pick up the hanger after dumping the scanners.

Meta-Alloys
'Find the Meta; find the Barnacle'

1) Buy it
2) Loot it from and NPC that's carrying it
3) Scoop it from salvageable wrecks or the occasional WSS
4) Mine it from asteroids
5) Loot it from fragments obtained from blowing up mining extractors on planetary surfaces.
6) Found in/at the Barnacle structure

More info on my mining expedition last night:

-All of the mined materials were standard. I did not find any MetA
-I mined at several of the asteroid belt clusters located next to Merope (star)
-I mined in the rings of 2-3 of the 5 merope planets
-I mined the RES site in Maia

{end Report}

Can you mine for "industrial materials"? I don't think so, but I also don't mine ;)

shhh ..... moral high ground, the Canonn is better then Palin ;)

welp I can expect the next CG from palin to be about the speed of research he does by how much luxary items we give him.....none = once a month if lucky, all teirs = every week or day maybe.

Good question.
the other 'industrial materials' are:
Ceramic Composits
Polymers
Semiconductors
Superconductors

All of which are transported in 'containers', and have been manufactured(IMO).
However, the description of MetA says that "They are easily machined, but as yet cannot be manufactured, only found in space."

So, it's an industrial material that (IMO) shouldn't be found in a container....

In the description of MetA it says:
"...much stronger than foamed aluminium for example."

Do you guys think this is a typo and should say 'formed' instead of 'foamed'?

Plausible. Forming is a common manufacturing method for metals. Although foaming of metals like aluminum is a real thing too.

Palin doesn't seem to like us, he originally turned down our offer to support his shut down research project whilst degrading us in the process.
He also shared none of his findings and research with us despite our policy of openness. oh and he has a shady government background ;)
Despite this the Canonn will once again be taking the moral high ground when dealing with Palin, all in the interest of openness and science of course!

We might want to be somewhat cautious in dealing with him, though. We don't know his background, his agenda, anything really, we're just taking his word for it. It might prove foolish to be so trusting.

Not suggesting we be openly hostile, but, well, we're open about our research, methods, and even our own different goals and internal disagreements; we've offered to partner with Palin and been rebuffed. There's a reason he's rebuffing us. I'm not sure I fully trust him.

Granted, from a metagame point of view, it's likely that he's FD's mouthpiece. But again, we're taking that on faith. And then again, with an eye to metagaming, what's a story without a little conflict? :)

Just a few thoughts:
if something is inside a Canister, it means that was put there by humans, then transported, then left floating or lost.
That means that it's not in its original "birth" place.
I hope the meta-alloys will have a unique "appearance" because, otherwise, it would be so immersion breaking.
If the description says they are being found in (some region of) space, it means they are there (or on a Planet, because planets are in some region of space), in there original form, like the UA.
Not containers. But we know howe game mechanics work, so... I'm dubious...

I did a project trying to make titanium foam at low temperatures. It was awesome.

Sweet! Were you successful? Was it actually stronger?

Should I do that project with my 5yr old for "Science Sundays?!?" :p

Good Call.

MetA is probably some new graphic that we haven't seen yet....
