UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

the Meta-alloys mission target being 'Planet' is a big discovery. That is fantastic news!

As for Merope 3A - I couldn't land there the other day while I was there. I had no idea other people had been able to. Is that a bug or does the UA allow it?

Has anyone tried to bring an UA down to a landable planet in merope, transfered it to the SRV and then unloaded it to the ground? Maybe UAs act or behave different/unexpected when put to a planet.

OMG mate i'm sorry I totally forgot the only planet that wasn't approachable! I was at work and replied a bit in a hurry! I truly landed on all the planets of Merope but not 3A! I don't think it would be possible at this point.

I'm sorry for the false info i hope you didn't kill too much into the task yet!
I owe you a cookie with Pivo

No worries. These things happen :)

So, this: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=215441&p=3292427#post3292427

A bit of fun over the Christmas period - and a controlled attempt to 'infect' as many known stations as we can - hopefully identifying any conditions why a station doesn't - outside of MB et al just missing them ;) (E.G. - why has JManis' station still not gone down?)

Smuggle UAs to Bond Hub, Varati - and if you're part of another player faction, and want to volunteer a station in your system - please do so (instructions in the post :) )

We really would like as many stations as possible added to this list please! :D

I think it was the first thing we did ...
It fell. On the side...

But on a more serious note - Morses name of the planet, and not loses durability

OK, thanks Derthek. I asked earlier if there were new commodoties in 2.0 & wondered if any of those could have use as an antifouling to combat the (alleged?) UA corrosion effect on ships/stations. Of your list several look promising:
Thorium is radioactive, SyntheticReagents could be nasty, Thallium salts are highly poisonous & historically used in rat poison/insecticides, Cryolite is used as an insecticide & pesticide, BootlegLiquor (seem to remember the blurb says it can be poisonous) , NerveAgents, & potentially muon scanners if they emite energy that would affect the UA spores (alleged barnacle larvae?)
Anyone willing to try these? I'm still light years away.

Edit: Another thought was the application of energy as an antifoulant ( see my earlier post re antifouling & wikipedia report) - did anyone try taking infected ships near to a star? I guess so if refuelling, but might need a longer exposure of heat to kill the barnacles, alternatively laser fire?

Hmm - 60 hour time limit. Could be quite far out.

Could it be something on the far side of the UA shell? Towards California sector from Merope?

It's actually 6 days and change.

I'm currently exploring the surface of a random planet in the UA shell with a UA in my hold just in case it's useful.

Worth saying that, like in other missions, the "target commodity" could spawn only if you took the relative mission.
I mean it could be easier to find the Meta-Alloys just accepting these missions...

I did a quick skim of the large crater, nothing stood out as being out of the ordinary. I'm going back to my other experiments until any explanation of why this planet is special.

Yeah I suspect Atrox Lux was probably just stating where he found the 100% metal planet, not that this planet in particular was where the giant green space barnacles could be found:

<snip>
I was searching high metal planetary bodies, as barnacles are all about the metal! I even found a 100% metal planet. Nothing as yet on it, but I stopped searching, once I found out, what I found out. It may be yet another dead end. But here's the name.

HIP 19382 (Planet B1)

Great info so far. Thanks.
No target marker in map for the target system ? Please watch and report ...

Not sure if this has already been noted in-thread (a quick search says 'no'), but it seems there are others looking for meta-alloys...

Note that it says 'Planet' as the target location.

(I got the mission while doing the Dahan trade CG, I believe it was Shriver Platform in the Ovid system, which seems like a pretty dull place)

Great! These are the kind of tangible things that will make us advance. So there are missions that relate to Meta-Alloys... interesting. Heading for Ovid system!

I remember a time when "in space" meant anything above the peak of Everest!
:))

Like I said earlier, space does not equal the big dark vacuum. Technically, anything outside of an atmosphere can be considered in space. Go read the un treaties on space sometime for some interesting legalities about space.

Exactly my thoughts... that's because I'm heading for the system. It will helps us to know if the mission has some requirements of rank...

I'm sorry to tell you that Merope 3A is not landable for EVERYONE, not because there's a bug, but because it has an atmosphere. ;)
Landable planets have a blue circle around them, as you can see in your image...

I know it shouldn't be landable. But some Commanders have claimed they can land there. Just tried it with a UA in my cargo. Didn't work. Can commander who say they have landed at Merope 3A please post a Screenshot of their system with the planet highlighted?

Noticed the UA doesn't degrade when you drop it from a Buggy btw. ANyone else noticed that? And you can hear the :):):):):):) from far away too.

Could be.

The mission was actually reported in the beta. I forgot all about it. The guy who took the mission never found it.
