UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Not 'we are'. I am.
First, the UA was announced indeed: in the wings trailer. Exactly like the barnacles shown in Horizon trailer.
Second: the missions already in game requiring Meta-Alloys.
And if not enough...
Third: a couple of other reasons that do not need any game hacking at all, but just opening a couple of folders, only to be sure that we are not wasting our time. For Science. Nothing more. ;)

Yes you are right. I forgot about the wings trailer.

OK CMDRS.
I'm doing this just because far are the days when people did not get discomforted so easy, days where 100 and more hours of searching were needed to spot an UA Convoy for the first time.
So here you are: the Barnacles POI are in game 100% sure. I don't now where, obviously, but I know they are in game, and in many different configurations.
So please stop complaining and keep on searching :D
They will show up eventually, like any other thing in game so far.
And if we fail, hints will come in the form of cryptic Galnet posts. ;)

I'm also of this opinion. Most probably that green "barnacles" are a POI to be found somewhere, in certain region of space and having picked up the Meta-Alloys mission. I'm trying to get that mission first, and after that I'll be visiting as many POI as I can in as many different worlds and space regions as possible in the amount of time given to fulfill the mission.

I like that kind of science :)

Does your science have a picture B)

No. There's no need. I'm on this mystery since day one and I don't want to risk spoiling the fun to myself so it was just a quick look, only to confirm that we MUST not stop looking for them.

Indeed.

If you want to find them just keep looking, pretty simple really.

I've done a path following

Bubble
=> California Nebula
=> Barnard's Loop
=> Trifid of the North
=> Heart Nebula
=> Soul Nebula
=> NGC 281 Nebula
=> Star Wars
=> then heading to Jellyfish Nebula

Plenty of other places to look, Nebulas on the other side of the bubble, look around the edges of permitted off areas, up above, down below etc...

This is actual practical stuff you can do rather than theorizing, or even while theorizing.

Bit... any idea why there is a cluster of stars near the Orion Nebula?

If I remember, these stars are F, A, B, and O type stars.

Anyone have a theory as to why certain clusters appear? Could this be the "Certain Regions of Space" alluded to by Fdev?

I think we, the UAs and Palin are searching for the same thing.

The UAs know that this thing is located 135-150ly from Merope. They know this because an UA found it. That UA fell out of a human ship and therefor only managed to send a litle bit of data before it expired.

UAs were therefor sent to the Pleiades to locate a spesific star that matched this data.

When it was detrmined that the star was Merope, a bunch more UAs were sent out to the shell. They all point to Merope to check their distance.

Palin has a vauge idea where to search, because he is the one who lost the first UA. He is therefor relocating to the closest inhabited system to his search region.

We as Jmains pointed out, have found a compass and rushed of to the north pole.

Those of us that have been searching in the shell, have mostly been on the side facing civilization.

I don't know if this makes sence? At least the bits sort of fits :)

Some of the denser patches of stars are from sections of real life scans from earth. I think that patch you have there is one of those dumps from real astronomical data.

No. There is a really scientific explaination for those star highways: those are places where the astronomic satellites that are scanning the sky have deeply surveyed, without scanning the other near regions. So, even if you see a high concentration of stars, that doesn't mean that, in real our real galaxy, there aren't other stars surrounding them. They are simply not surveyed still.
Being ED galaxy a lot based on real stars catalogues, that's what happens, sometimes.

Hi guys! Just caught up on the thread. Just got back from the new Star Wars and it didn't have a single mention of UAs or Barnacles. Drat! ;)

Anyhoooo, I have a question. It requires a *little* meta engineering but hear me out;

In the Wings trailer, Palin (Ishmael in the trailer) enlists the help of three other pilots. Jameson, Halligan and Kohl.

Would it be possible for Canonn to write an 'open letter' to those characters and see if one of them would be willing to give us some more information about what Palin is ultimately after?

This of course would require some meta help from FD but I would like to see if avenues like this are explorable to us.

You have these characters, FD, but now we want to talk to them ;)

As always happens, I like your sayings.
Knowing that Ishmael Palin was coming from California Nebula, towards the Bubble, maybe we should search in the far part of the UA shell, the one facing that nebula? ;)

I like that thinking. I'm perfectly happy to head out there soon I think. This Palin CG is incredibly dull. We're not getting anywhere fast with it lol

Tie this into the "mission" that the convoys were on :) love to see what you come up with.

I think they were just testing cargo hatch failure rate.
Palin probably have no idea when his UA fell out. It's not like it says bye when it leaves :)
Knowing how log it takes on average for an UA to fall out would help them a lot.

When I saw it last night there was an advert for ED before it, which was cool. I also did not spot any UAs or barnacles.

I'm sure this has already been reported, but I saw a pink "POI" in OC in ROSS 14 (system name may be incorrect, near Sol. )

Afaik that has not been reported before. Did you land and check it out?

Possible space madness or the Port I'm fondling but... the moon shown on the desktop menu...Could this be a moon from Maia? And if so does anyone recognise it and maybe locate that crater the star is over!? Long shot but its could be right in front of our faces so to speak.

Rizal rizal rizal I know they are in the game but we're talking bout 1:1 scale moons on merope or the place where they can be found ! Sure I know the feeling when someone has finally found that structure but how ? How ? It's impossible without hints ! Mr Brookes ? Any hints ?
