UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Hi guys! Just caught up on the thread. Just got back from the new Star Wars and it didn't have a single mention of UAs or Barnacles. Drat! ;)

Anyhoooo, I have a question. It requires a *little* meta engineering but hear me out;

In the Wings trailer, Palin (Ishmael in the trailer) enlists the help of three other pilots. Jameson, Halligan and Kohl.

Would it be possible for Canonn to write an 'open letter' to those characters and see if one of them would be willing to give us some more information about what Palin is ultimately after?

This of course would require some meta help from FD but I would like to see if avenues like this are explorable to us.

You have these characters, FD, but now we want to talk to them ;)

Quoting myself here, which is weird, but I wanted to add to this;

I've been reading up on Thargoids (mostly out of curiosity as I have never played a previous Elite game and have scant knowledge of them) and noticed that, according to the wiki, they are more advanced than mankind in the fields of AI and Remote Craft.

Could UAs be some of those Remote Craft?

And have we... as silly as this sounds... tried talking BACK to them? We know they scan us, beep and wail at us, but have we literally responded? Typing in local when one is present? Or, in a move reminiscent of Close Encounters of a Third Kind, can we make noise back at them? Perhaps our discovery scanners?

Again, I know I have months of people behind me who have already tried a thousand things. I expect this to be retrodden ground but it never hurt to ask haha.

I'm sure this has already been reported, but I saw a pink "POI" in OC in ROSS 14 (system name may be incorrect, near Sol. )

And you also see purple ones but that one was pink?
What did you find inside?

It was tested quite a while ago. Someone even bruteforced a couple thousand words back to it in morse and also in normal.
Scanners or ECM doesn't do anything with it.

I think we, the UAs and Palin are searching for the same thing.

The UAs know that this thing is located 135-150ly from Merope. They know this because an UA found it. That UA fell out of a human ship and therefor only managed to send a litle bit of data before it expired.

UAs were therefor sent to the Pleiades to locate a spesific star that matched this data.

When it was detrmined that the star was Merope, a bunch more UAs were sent out to the shell. They all point to Merope to check their distance.

Palin has a vauge idea where to search, because he is the one who lost the first UA. He is therefor relocating to the closest inhabited system to his search region.

We as Jmains pointed out, have found a compass and rushed of to the north pole.

Those of us that have been searching in the shell, have mostly been on the side facing civilization.

I don't know if this makes sence? At least the bits sort of fits :)

I like your theory and as it currently stands we have not found much within the Pleiades yet so it has not been disproven.

Unfortunately, the number planets within all of the star systems within the 135-150ly radius band around merope is huge.

If your theory is correct, and we find the planet in question then I hope that what we seek will be found in abundance on that planet.

Mind says the green structure is a hidden or ancient thargoids or anythingoid base

I'm not gonna say you're wrong but I'm gonna say first lets eat some biscuits and then I'm gonna say we need to wait for more hints or just like rizal thinks keep searching on the moons ( which are 1:1 scale by the way ) until we find something

I like that thinking. I'm perfectly happy to head out there soon I think. This Palin CG is incredibly dull. We're not getting anywhere fast with it lol

Yeah, I have currently only managed 4 trips (1600 tonnes) before I stopped a couple of hours ago. Also the credits barely cover the fuel + hull integrity repairs.

Rizal rizal rizal I know they are in the game but we're talking bout 1:1 scale moons on merope or the place where they can be found ! Sure I know the feeling when someone has finally found that structure but how ? How ? It's impossible without hints ! Mr Brookes ? Any hints ?

Hints?

Horizons hasn't even been out a week yet!

Mr Brookes - Please NO HINTS until at least 2016!

Yeah. For me it was just the fact that while I AM eager, my Asp isn't carrying anywhere near enough to make it feel like I'm making REAL progress. I was coming back with about 40 tonnes a pop because I couldn't even find enough systems to fill up to 64t in a quick enough time that was worth the effort.

The ironic thing is, Obsidian Orbital IN MAIA has an absolute mountain of them for sale. Maybe Palin should just come to Maia already and we can sell to him from there haha

Currently docked up in Obsidian, making myself a cuppa, but then it's back out to space for me. I'll be heading to the California Nebula and having a cursory look at some planets and systems along the way.

Morse code with the ship lights?

I was getting them from GD 140. I filed a bug report due to a graphic glich in the system map:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=215957

Its not the station that has the yellow chevron, its the one next to it. ~10000 supply when I last checked.

That is a pretty amazing glitch haha

Thanks for the heads up on the system though. I'll head back to the Bubble during some post-Christmas relaxing and get a last few trips done in time for the CG to end :)

I'm sure this has already been reported, but I saw a pink "POI" in OC in ROSS 14 (system name may be incorrect, near Sol. )
I thought pink (red?) POI were "no fly zones" over settlements. Was it near a settlement? Also if someone has seen a purple one it may have been because a pink/red no fly zone was overlapping a blue POI?

If its anything like the CG at Kaushpoos then the supply will keep diminishing and you will have to travel further away.

In that CG I was getting the computer components from a system about 70ly away towards the end.

I find the best in-game way to find systems selling the required commodity is to use the Galaxy map and trade route filter. Select only the commodity you're looking for (evac shelters in this case) and select nearby stars and make sure to click the button to purchase trade data for them. Look for the trade routes starting from a given star and investigate to see if it has sufficient stock. You may have to try several systems before you find a good one, but this helps to narrow the search in-game without having to switch out to one of the trade search websites.

Thanks for the info.

I have seen bug reports about the iOS app API and ED MarketConnector that uses it not working right now. So I expect the external online tools will be quite useless right now :)
Currently there are a lot of High Tech systems around the Dahan, so it isn't too bad to find supply, but as more people help out with this goal the stocks at the closer systems will diminish quite quickly.

I just saw this list in the CG thread if you want a good list. I see my current route is listed there, second in the list, so it will probably dry up real fast now :D

So what's with this weird 'Spear' of stars just Galactic-south of the California Nebula? Is it something similar to what was mentioned previously?

long story short, its nothing. the reason this question hasnt been answered yet is becuase it comes up a lot and its a long explanation, but the devs have said its nothing related to anything mysterious. has to do with the research Fdev did to build the galaxy :) just trust me, its nothing. its come up a lot.

No worries. I'm happy for it to be nothing. I just wanted to be sure that nothing is all it was haha

There must be a mistake: you cannot spot POIs in OC (Orbital Cruise) for sure. When you are in OC you still see planets and stars in your scanner, technically you're still in space. You should have been in normal flying to spot POIs. That said, would be nice to know if you investigated further.

I think bitstorm found the fixed POI for the scavenger hunt in orbital cruise
