Some CMDRs are just mean....

As an avid PvP player this game needs a better crime system to deter mindless murdering.

but it also needs a better system to track player bounties and keep people engaged in the fight, later when you get better it's impossible to die in PvP - so people go after new players because they don't know anything yet or have anything.

This game is like a PVE'ers dream except with PVP + open play tacked on at the last minute for sales.

What it needs is a Dark Soulsesque mode to invade other player's single player games. > : )

Most of these so called PvPers aren't looking for a challenge.

Actually, that's what many of us are looking for.

I remember early last Spring when I was in my A-spec Viper, and ran into a particularly well-known pirate flying his Clipper, who livestreams (hey there Tigga, you still playing?). I sent him a comm.

Me: Holy crap, it's you.
T: Hey man, how's it going?
Me: Dude. Wow. Ok, hate to say this... but I'm looking at your $5Mill+ bounty. Going to have to claim that.
T: You're more than welcome to try. :)

I interdicted, he submitted. And blew me out of the sky after a minute or two.

I paid my insurance claim, got a new Viper, went back out and he was still flying around.

T: Care for another go?
Me: Let's do it.

I tried 3-4 more times, with the same result. Not even sure I ever got his shields down. Seems like he even gave me a tip or two on how what I could improve.

No one yelled, no one called the other insulting names, no one combat logged. He had a bit of fun, and I learned a few things to do (and more things to NOT do) in combat. It was far more thrilling than anything that happens with an NPC.

They are there to look for soft easy targets to blow up.

No, that's what people that farm a Nav, RES or CZ are doing. Looking for soft, easy targets to blow up - even better if the Feds are around, to take down a Conda's shields so they can start firing their C1 multiguns, claim a bounty, and then cheer about how they make 2 Million/Hr killing Condas.

All this proves is that: Stereotypes go both ways.

Precisely. The game isn't dangerous unless you add superior AI into the mix and for that we need humans.

Exactly agree. Pirate NPC's will shoot on sight too, but there aren't many of those you can wing up with so, swings and roundabaouts?

Suggest whatever happens do not take it personally. The reason some other ship is trying to kill you is not what's important. What's important, is "that ship" is trying to kill you .. what do you plan to do about it?

So for Superior AI read, "unpredictable human, handle with care". I'm not one (I'm a good boy I am) but I don't mind sharing the galaxy with meanies .. largely because, the bigger they come, the harder they fall.

:D

Normally I would post something nice about "care bear island" such as it does seem to have nicer people in it. However a recent experiment has changed my mind - all traders are meanies.

Let me explain. Small group doing BGS stuff. We have a decent high tech, and a lot of rubbish refinery/extractions sites. 2 of us did runs in a Corvette and Type-9 on Sunday total of about 5000 tons to the High Tech. Whilst this has the affect of increasing the influence in the high tech, we brought the gold in from outside the rubbish refineries that normally supply this on the trade routes. Net affect -2-6% in the small system - gonna take a lot of Python trading and missions to make that up.

The net affect of the experiment is I am very wary about large trade ships on the traffic report now, these traders are interfering in my game (the meanies), stopping my crusade for galactic domination by a minor faction one crappy extraction system at a time, and forcing me to do delivery missions - that hass got to be worst than a few million Python death - its continuous!

A lot of the traffic in the faction's space is solo/private group. When I do see other commanders getting them to respond to comms is quite tough, I am beginning to conclude you need to follow them and interdict them as a greeting! Then explain your message, if they do not respond well shoot them so they go else where. It seems to me that all traders want the right to do whatever they want, trading wherever they want without considering the consequences and their affects on other players. They then like to moan if someone interferes in there game. Worst still, FD appears to have created 2 playing modes that encourage this selfishness. I say get rid of open and solo so traders can face the consequence of their actions, oh an nurf trading or something to discourage such selfish mean behaviour.

Note: Sunday experiment was true, my conclusions are tongue somewhat in cheek and may of got out of hand.

Yeah this is the result of having a common server for solo and open. It's pretty much impossible to defend something against solo/private pve attacks (see power play), so personally i don't even try.

Excuse me, but are you for reals, oh Ruler of the Wretched Hive of Scum and Villiany? :)

Although I must admit, I got a chuckle out of "the intricacies of open play in a dynamic unpredictable universe". Is that what you people on Inappropriate Hard-on Island are grunting at each other?

Well. I guess you said your piece. Why not move on to another cliche. Oh dangerous one. Flex away.

Carebear haze. And you've yet to say anything besides carebear speak. Waddle back to the hugging gardens where you belong if you have nothing to add.

Inappropriate hard-on island. Hmm, gotta say I like carebear island more -- paints a more clear picture. Why do we have inappropriate hard-ons? Is there an appropriate hard-on island? Kinda missed the marked.

Was the sentence too long or were there too many syllables?

People, people, please:

If someone chooses to play in private group/solo, it is their choice, they are looking for an controlled environment/selective environment to play ED that they paid the same amount of money for as anyone else. It does not make them carebears of any sort, just another player.

If someone chooses to play in open, it is also their choice, they are seeking more unpredictable interaction with other players and random encounters that have more entropy. This is usually a harsher environment, and some find it entertaining, it doesn't make them griefers automatically.

Can we please just respect one another's playstyle and stop flinging things at one another?

But when you drop me out of FSD, and demand my cargo but I don't have any cargo and you still start shooting me, then when I finally get out of there just to get to the station, where you met me and blow up my ship...

Under those circumstances ("known psycho randomly attacking me") I would consider high-waking to another star rather than attempt to continue my journey in that system.
