Some CMDRs are just mean....

If someone chooses to play in private group/solo, it is their choice, they are looking for an controlled environment/selective environment to play ED that they paid the same amount of money for as anyone else. It does not make them carebears of any sort, just another player.

If someone chooses to play in open, it is also their choice, they are seeking more unpredictable interaction with other players and random encounters that have more entropy. This is usually a harsher environment, and some find it entertaining, it doesn't make them griefers automatically.

Can we please just respect one another's playstyle and stop flinging things at one another?

Man.

Carebear haze. And you've yet to say anything besides carebear speak. Waddle back to the hugging gardens where you belong if you have nothing to add.

Boy.

As a professional Smuggler and part time moonbuggy racer, I have to say, what is this thread even about anymore?

Also I personally blame The CODE for everything bad that happens including that one time I was rammed by a police eagle while speeding through the mail slot and I got fined for it. I'll have my revenge The Code, just you wait! *fist shaking!*

These type of threads do pop up pretty regularly in one form or another. It would be interesting if you had information about the player, age, gender, etc. I would suspect pretty young players but I also wouldn't be surprised if that's totally wrong, could be anyone.

Only thing that links them on the evidence is they get something out of it I suppose. Next question is what type of personality gets something out of it ?

Could go on for ever trying to psychologically profile these people so I just say what my good ol' middle prejudice and the rest of whatever else I have "grown" over the years thinks, not too bright, lack power in real life, not much empathy for other humans ?

Who cares, they are irritating a holes who I'm afraid because of the present game mechanics feel no pain for the crimes they commit ..

Hang em up I say

And what would your response to that reply looked like. I'm curious, mr adult.

Vastly different to your responses I assure you, the problem you are creating for yourself is this, any valid point(s) you may have are completely lost in amongst all your carebear this, carebear that, carebear haze, carebear island nonsense. I'm sure you would like to get whatever point you are trying to make across but your current method is not going to achieve that.

What's this obsession of wanting to be recognized as an adult while *ahem* flying through space going *pew pew pew*

I am a 43 year old kid. Anyone who dares to call me an adult will have to answer to my dad!

Some people are going to shoot at you. Either for reasons. Or for no reason.

If you seek logic, you will be disappointed. There are pirates who do tend to follow a fairly simple creed. And then there are people who will simply shoot at you, because they can.

Hating on pirates doesn't really achieve anything; they won't care. I wouldn't care. Chalk it up to the cost of doing business inside open. Once you realise that some people just want to watch the world burn, and that sometimes they may find you and you might die, and accept that, it gets easier.

I wouldn't want that to stop, simply because to achieve that thing would be such a gargantuan lock down, that almost everything would become un-fun. The price of freedom, is acceptance of fear and moving past it.

I persist to do most everything in Open, in spite of the risk. It's part of the attraction. Because to remove such influence, would echo what we see in reality. A reduction of freedom and liberty in return for security.

People constantly demand more repercussions. If Frontier goes down this path, it simply cannot end well.

Have some REP sir a most eloquent and concise explanation of Elite dangerous i have seen on these boards

I agree that pirates and bounty hunters both add to the game, what would be cool is real rewards, a way for players to put a bounty on a pirate, for thr BH to collect, other than the games own present system, a way to involve the player in this.
But using credits could be exploited for player credit transfer, is there another way.
Perhaps a points system, like a rep system on a forum, points for being good, points for being bad, higher bounties for more bad points, lower for less ect.
I believe Gta use something similar.
Good sports http://uk.ign.com/wikis/gta-5/Good_Sports
Bad sports http://uk.ign.com/wikis/gta-5/Bad_Sports

As in the OP, problem is having no consequence for these sort of actions, in the GTA system, the idea being that you are more likely to be instanced with with either good or bad players based on your score. The players themselves could decide the score, with say a x amount of bad points to be awarded after being attacked, and x amount you can give for a good sport when attacking. These points could effect missions and prices too.

While I don't really care if anyone attacks me for whatever reason, it is slightly annoying when they don't say why. Lol
Randomly attacking someone with no explanation is rude. Lol

Also speaking of rude behaviour, why is it that 99% of CMDRs don't speak at all?
I've saved someone in a Cobra from imminent death in a RES, literally they was at 3% hull, sheilds down, when I finished off the ships shooting him. Asked if he was OK? No answer. He didn't even jump out or anything, just casually drifted about abit until his shields came on.
I also randomly interdicted a noob sidewinder pilot just cos I wanted a chat and to ask if they needed help (I enjoy helping new players get started! But I don't normally interdict them lol)... Dropped out of SC together, I kept my weapons down, and said 'hi, how's things?'.... He just took of and full speed. Not even a peep.
Maybe I need to not be in my Python when I talk to people.

And don't get me started on solo players being able to effect the open world. The dumbest decision ever.

I.E. My crew is defending an area and making sure there are no enemies bringing in goods to fortify or strengthen a position -- there's no traders, no smugglers, nobody is getting past our blockade.... and I'm doing an excellent job. Well... wait a minute... we aren't doing a good job!!!! They are getting through via a parallel universe and there isn't a single thing we can do to stop it.
Yeah, tell me about it. I am deep in imperial territory and have been for 2 straight days earning over 2000+ merits killing imperial scum and havent had one player even show up on my radar.. Kind of disappointing me at the moment, I may go to their homeworld and spread some federal cheer.. sigh.

To be fair, the only game I have ever really spent any time on recently has been Diablo III, likewise there is the "carebare" softcore mode (die all you want), and a little harder hardcore mode (1 life). I couldnt imagine grinding for days on end in an environment that has no consequence.. whole reason I liked D3 so much is because of the hardcore mode which made your heart rate jump when you were close to death.. likewise in open..

Anyway sigh, not everyone finds these things fun and I understand that, I just wished they tried to see the bigger picture, or the game made is possible for these people to have some safety net in open as mentioned earlier. End of the day we all have fun in our unique ways, much of that has to do with Age and experience I guess.

On the other hand, having the biggest group to throw their weight around with is hardly fair to the "single player" experience of the game either. I'd rather not see this game degraded into nothing but "pirate hubs" and player faction bases. I want to play my game my way, not someone else's.

That being said, I do often play in open when I'm in the bubble (high res. 8K screen shots in solo are better), and good luck to anyone trying to catch my Cobra.

Personally, if you feel like you have been unfairly treated, you should be able to name the commander and put a bounty on their head.

If you suffered a ship destruction and not because someone looked at you funny. Call it a kind of intergalactic 'wanted' list, the aggrieved CMDR can post a bounty (as much as they like) and it stays up for 90 days. All the existing wanted mechanics work in the same way.

Now that might a) make people think b) make the game mechanics more interesting.

Not my fault that you choose to hone in on the carebear word usage and ignore the other points. I have no desire to walk you through those points because your upset at the word carebear. Ignore the word, ignore the post, make your choice, it makes little difference to me, the points are still there.

I made my points and the other gentleman who I was talking to bowed out with "continue flexing" comment -- as though at any time I challenged him to a duel, I said I could kill him, I pounded my chest and said "bring it bro!", that I'm the best of the best and he was utter chit. None of that "tough guy" stuff was said yet somehow that's what people are reading. My guess is they don't like the word carebear and the picture it paints.

He ignored my points about the overall universe, that I understood why (not how, but why) he was on the island and that I blame frontier for not putting in safeguards from psychos so the universe can be a whole; I don't blame him. This was followed by more "tough guy" comments. So yes, I responded in kind. Go back, read. It's all there.

At the end of this back and forth, I was jumped on by random others who only caught the backend of the conversation and haven't been following along with the conversation from the get-go or the points I've made. To such comments, I can only say, shove off. You're too lazy to read the entire back and forth, then I'm too lazy to reply with an "adult" response. Seems fair to me.

There's a simple reason people don't like being called carebears. It paints an accurate picture, one they don't like being associated with -- an island of safety, no danger or threats, free to frolic to and fro. Why not just embrace that? Are these things not true? They are and the community has assigned a name to this place. I didn't invent it, but it fits.

Again, I don't blame a person for going to the "island" because they are being harassed or just want to play alone -- I have no hate for them. I blame frontier for creating the island and segregating people from the universe (who can then have an impact on that universe?!? huh!?!?) rather than addressing the problem and bringing the community together.

I don't want the "carebears" -- ohhh there's that word again! -- to come to open just so I can squash them and eat their tender meat (again with the jokes!).

I want them in the universe to bring life to it and bring about more player interaction and the stories that have been told above and other places on this forum. You don't get that from AI fights in an AI based world. and I'm all in favor of super high security zones where players who don't want to be touched can't be touched (without the absolute strictest of penalties).

I'm more upset with the game mechanics rather than the players choosing to make use of said mechanics.

If you suffered a ship destruction (say over 250K) and not because someone looked at you funny. Call it a kind of intergalactic 'wanted' list, the aggrieved CMDR can post a bounty (as much as they like) and it stays up for 90 days. All the existing wanted mechanics work in the same way.

Exactly this. Game mechanics are whats breaking up the player base. There is nothing stopping a psycho from being a psycho. Player bounties are an excellent idea.... but then comes the "take advantage" crowd talking about cmdrs getting high bounties and selling the credits.

I think that a pirate should have his MURDER bounties deducted from his own bank. Make him really pay for this crimes. This means murder will drop, but pirating won't -- as true pirates don't murder. Also have enhanced security for those deemed true psycos... over a certain amount of murders brings down the hell and the thunder whenever in a controlled zone. They are confined to anarchy space forever essentially.

There are things that can be done, lots of options and great ideas. Separating players is a terrible one.

I'm fine with how the game is, but I understand people don't like the idea of being killed for no reason by psychos and you have to find a middle ground OR you're left with a game that is near empty.

Not 'upset' at all, just baffled as to why you are unable to communicate without being insulting, which, yet again, you have illustrated beautifully above. The moderators have repeatedly asked for the words 'carebear' and 'griefer' to not be used, bacause, you know, insulting and all that. The fact that you said to me that you were not going to go through your points for me again and then proceeded to do so shows me that you do want to get your point across. I have no problem with that, but, please explain to me why you can't seem to do so without being offensive and insulting?

As an aside, "care bear," "white knight," and similar are only unfortunate "1337" player type terms from other game communities that only serve to stereotype and denigrate others. I try to overlook their usage, but it can be difficult to see any credibility in a post where these kinds of terms are used.
