Vastly different to your responses I assure you, the problem you are creating for yourself is this, any valid point(s) you may have are completely lost in amongst all your carebear this, carebear that, carebear haze, carebear island nonsense. I'm sure you would like to get whatever point you are trying to make across but your current method is not going to achieve that.
Vastly different, you assure me. That's... nice. Guess I'll take your word for it.
Not my fault that you choose to hone in on the carebear word usage and ignore the other points. I have no desire to walk you through those points because your upset at the word carebear. Ignore the word, ignore the post, make your choice, it makes little difference to me, the points are still there.
I made my points and the other gentleman who I was talking to bowed out with "continue flexing" comment -- as though at any time I challenged him to a duel, I said I could kill him, I pounded my chest and said "bring it bro!", that I'm the best of the best and he was utter chit. None of that "tough guy" stuff was said yet somehow that's what people are reading. My guess is they don't like the word carebear and the picture it paints.
He ignored my points about the overall universe, that I understood why
(not how, but why) he was on the island and that I blame frontier for not putting in safeguards from psychos so the universe can be a whole; I don't blame him. This was followed by more "tough guy" comments. So yes, I responded in kind. Go back, read. It's all there.
At the end of this back and forth, I was jumped on by random others who only caught the backend of the conversation and haven't been following along with the conversation from the get-go or the points I've made. To such comments, I can only say, shove off. You're too lazy to read the entire back and forth, then I'm too lazy to reply with an "adult" response. Seems fair to me.
There's a simple reason people don't like being called carebears. It paints an accurate picture, one they don't like being associated with -- an island of safety, no danger or threats, free to frolic to and fro. Why not just embrace that? Are these things not true? They are and the community has assigned a name to this place. I didn't invent it, but it fits.
Again, I don't blame a person for going to the "island" because they are being harassed or just want to play alone -- I have no hate for them. I blame frontier for creating the island and segregating people from the universe (who can then have an impact on that universe?!? huh!?!?) rather than addressing the problem and bringing the community together.
I don't want the "carebears" -- ohhh there's that word again! -- to come to open just so I can squash them and eat their tender meat (again with the jokes!).
I want them in the universe to bring life to it and bring about more player interaction and the stories that have been told above and other places on this forum. You don't get that from AI fights in an AI based world. and I'm all in favor of super high security zones where players who don't want to be touched can't be touched (without the absolute strictest of penalties).
I'm more upset with the game mechanics rather than the players choosing to make use of said mechanics.

Personally, if you feel like you have been unfairly treated, you should be able to name the commander and put a bounty on their head.
If you suffered a ship destruction (say over 250K) and not because someone looked at you funny. Call it a kind of intergalactic 'wanted' list, the aggrieved CMDR can post a bounty (as much as they like) and it stays up for 90 days. All the existing wanted mechanics work in the same way.
Now that might a) make people think b) make the game mechanics more interesting.
Exactly this. Game mechanics are whats breaking up the player base. There is nothing stopping a psycho from being a psycho. Player bounties are an excellent idea.... but then comes the "take advantage" crowd talking about cmdrs getting high bounties and selling the credits.
I think that a pirate should have his MURDER bounties deducted from his own bank. Make him really pay for this crimes. This means murder will drop, but pirating won't -- as true pirates don't murder. Also have enhanced security for those deemed true psycos... over a certain amount of murders brings down the hell and the thunder whenever in a controlled zone. They are confined to anarchy space forever essentially.
There are things that can be done, lots of options and great ideas. Separating players is a terrible one.
I'm fine with how the game is, but I understand people don't like the idea of being killed for no reason by psychos and you have to find a middle ground OR you're left with a game that is near empty.
