Some CMDRs are just mean....

Your attitude is disgraceful. Your failure to appreciate that some people don't want non-consensual PvP and your self-evident sense of superiority because it's what the game is all about for you shows exactly why FD have set the game up in the way that they have.

Unfortunately, some people in Open are mean. You can be destroyed by someone just for jollies. I still maintain that the internal crime and punishment systems within the game need another look over (and not just in relation to PvP, but PvE murdering too).

Not 'upset' at all, just baffled as to why you are unable to communicate without being insulting, which, yet again, you have illustrated beautifully above. The moderators have repeatedly asked for the words 'carebear' and 'griefer' to not be used, bacause, you know, insulting and all that. The fact that you said to me that you were not going to go through your points without the insults for me again and then proceeded to do so shows me that you do want to get your point across. I have no problem with that, but, please explain to me why you can't seem to do so without being offensive and insulting?

So you did understand my previous points even with the carebear "insults" peppered about! Ah ha!!!

And you said "your current method is not going to achieve that". It seems my method of getting my points across worked just fine, huh?

And no, I won't explain why I can't do it without being offensive and insulting, because I don't think I'm being offensive and insulting. A carebear is a bear that cares and whom resides in the gardens of hugging and infinite happiness with no danger or threats. There's nothing inherently insulting about that, is there?

If an individual feels that is an insult, well, that's their own interruptation of what a carebear is and how they view themselves.

Frankly, I'm insulted by you being so easily insulted.

I've seen the term "griefer" thrown around quite a bit on this forum without any repercussion from the mods. I don't honestly think that they care about that particular word being used because, to be quite honest, griefers don't really take offense to being called griefers. Most of it's usage on this forum however has taught me that 90% of the population here doesn't actually know what a griefer is anyway. People who know they fall under the "carebear" title generally tend to take great offense at being called a carebear though, which is why it's use is frowned upon in various forums.

Moving on

Player created bounties would be abused just like every other glitch or exploit that's been found in-game over the past year and change. It's not a viable system for deterring "griefing" of any type. Even in the days of old where Pirates didn't kill everything they came across, there were still pirates who killed indiscriminately because they derived some sort of pleasure out of it. If you can't handle being under the crosshairs of a person like that, play in solo or private group. Those modes exist for players who want the galaxy to themselves or for just them and their friends/like minded groups. That or you could, you know, move away from the more highly populated areas of space. The group I play with operates around a system some 40 odd light years away from a newbie system and we rarely encounter any players unless we specifically visit the starter systems and their immediate neighbors.

And this was covered.....

I don't want the "carebears" -- ohhh there's that word again! -- to come to open just so I can squash them and eat their tender meat (again with the jokes!).

I want them in the universe to bring life to it and bring about more player interaction and the stories that have been told above and other places on this forum. You don't get that from AI fights in an AI based world. and I'm all in favor of super high security zones where players who don't want to be touched can't be touched (without the absolute strictest of penalties).

I'm more upset with the game mechanics rather than the players choosing to make use of said mechanics.

Is this where I say "come at me bro".... or did I miss that moment?

Disgraceful.... indeed. Never skip to the end of a story. You miss all that important middle parts that pieces everything together.

Your welcome.

You know full well you are being insulting, it is your chosen 'method' and to be honest it is pretty lame and brings nothing to your 'points'. Isn't it amazing how I have managed to communicate with you, get my point(s) across and all without calling you a 'griefer' or a 'psycho'? I'm not going to deny that I have insulted you once, with my adult comment, but honestly, I stand by that. if you can't see how your carebear rants come across as immature and childish, bring nothing to your point of view or the discussion and sounds very much like the kids ranting on FPS console games then so be it.

This a million times this. I'm doing that italian chef "muahhhhh!" thing right now. This times a million. Simple, to the point, I love it.

Also speaking of rude behaviour, why is it that 99% of CMDRs don't speak at all?

I can't speak for anyone else, but when I'm playing Elite, my stick & throttle are in front of my keyboard, so typing can be incredibly awkward and take time, during which I won't be controlling my ship.

If the voice option was less obtuse and offered better feedback as to when a voice channel was open and when it wasn't, I'd use that. Indeed, I often try to, but about 75% of the time when I press my designated "Push-to-talk" button, there's no indication on screen that I'm successfully talking to someone. Add to that the fact that most other CMDRs are as equally confused about voice in this game as I am, and most of the time I don't even get acknowledgement that they can hear me.

Seems uncomfortably similar to a kind of logic that would try to justify racist terminology.

What, you don't like being told you're using the same kind of logic as a racist? You must clearly be racist then. (See what I did there?)

No, I don't. I still contend it's just a word assigned to a group of people all sharing similar traits. Safety, no threats, no dangers, infinite hugs & caring, immortality, etc.

In fact, I haven't actually said "down with carebears", "to hell with carebears", or anything really negative about carebears. Have I? I actually said I WANT THEM TO COME TO OPEN AND REMAIN SAFE.

The only thing I have said remotely negative is "go back to carebear island", but that's not an insult, is it? That's "go back to where you feel safe" if you don't like open -- which you guys do anyways.

These are just the facts, are they not?

As deadspin said, in a way I wish I had...

People who know they fall under the "carebear" title generally tend to take great offense at being called a carebear though

Realistically, there is nothing inherently wrong with being a carebear. I have simply called them that. If you wish to take offense at that, that's on you and what you perceive a carebear to be.

I called you and others a carebear based on your solo mode / group mode play -- carebear island. Now, how would you assign me "griefer or psycho" label? I'm curious. I really am.

Is everyone in open a psycho and griefer? I submit that all psychos and griefers reside in open.... however, not all those who reside in open are psychos and griefers. The same can not be said for carebear island, can it? Only carebears live on carebear island, yes?

You stand by your adult comment. Fine. I stand by everything I have said about carebears 100%. In fact, nothing I have said has been a lie or even attacks. It's all accurate. It's not my problem if people don't like the word or what it means to them.

And finally, if you can't see how your rants about the word "carebear" and not the actual discussion are utterly ridiculous, well, then so be it.

And don't get me started on solo players being able to effect the open world. The dumbest decision ever.

I.E. My crew is defending an area and making sure there are no enemies bringing in goods to fortify or strengthen a position -- there's no traders, no smugglers, nobody is getting past our blockade.... and I'm doing an excellent job. Well... wait a minute... we aren't doing a good job!!!! They are getting through via a parallel universe and there isn't a single thing we can do to stop it.
See people this is what we're dealing with.

If someone sets up a blockade, knowing full well how perfectly inconsequential this is, but still goes on with it, not the sharpest tool in the shed wouldn't you say? And you guys are trying to reason with that?

My hat's off to Frontier Development to prevent these little people from preventing other players into an area. Solo players being able to affect the open world is the funniest decision ever. All these little wannabe dictators crying on the forum how little Jimmy from next door is playing in their part of the sandbox is just ... beautiful to behold.

Excellent. So you acknowledge that you are being deliberately insulting (which adds nothing to the credibility of your position)?

I want them in the universe to bring life to it and bring about more player interaction and the stories that have been told above and other places on this forum. You don't get that from AI fights in an AI based world. and I'm all in favor of super high security zones where players who don't want to be touched can't be touched (without the absolute strictest of penalties).

That's nice. People playing in solo, by definition, do not share your desires. People playing in closed groups, by definition, do not share your desires. And yet you seem to think your way of playing is the only correct one.

In an effort to move the thread along - you mention the "strictest of penalties" for non-consensual attacks in a high security area. What did you have in mind that would actually be a deterrent?

fyl, mean wasn't the word I had in mind.... a jerk is more like it.

I think I met some of these lot too. I was Christmas shopping over at Hel when a wing of four brutes accosted me. I thought they just wanted to admire my midnight black Chelsea Python but this reasoning was soon dispelled when my jovial seasons greetings were met with a face full of every weapon known to E:D. Thankfully my recent pimp-my-ride hull upgrades held out, even if my shields did not, while I high waked it out of there.

I actually don't see what you did there. Explain please.

I don't actually have any reason to honestly suspect you of being racist. It was an analogy to try and help show the flaws in using denigrating terminology and the assumption that people who don't care for it must therefor be it as well.

And now you are trying to convince us, me, (who exactly?), that you are so socially unaware and inept, so out of touch with social norms and well reasoned debate that you do not know when you are being insulting. Sorry, I don't buy that for a second, and to be honest, I do not think many, (if any), on these boards do either, but by all means carry, on, if sounding immature, insulting and downright offensive is how you get your jollies then fill your boots.

lol this is the funniest thread I have read in a while.....really helping me pass the time at work whilst I wait for xmas break..

its offensive to some I understand, but its like when we were kids, some of us were allowed to go off and climb trees and have adventure....whilst some kids were wrapped in cotton wool in case they hurt themselves......we used to call them carebears back then....but this is back in the 80s when only girls played carebears or my little pony lol....

its another term for...not having enough balls....I honestly think its a fear barrier with peeps not going into open......once you get past that and get adjusted to it,its amazing.....just give it a shot!

So you turned my example of how the universe should work... I.E. a system that is blockaded shouldn't be able to get supplies from another dimension (solo mode) if there is an active blockade... and you took it to mean that I'm actually running a blockade with others KNOWING FULL WELL this alternate universe ignores said blockade.

Wow... that plane flew right over your hea, didn't it bud? And whats super funny is you tried to appear like the smart guy with that post. "This guy is running blockades, durrrrrr!" Holy chit dude, I'm the one that mentioned the example -- Yeesh, talk about embarrassing.

Wrong on so many levels.
