Last night, the canonn intercepted a message to Ed Lewis.

Believed to be a puzzle, word quickly spread behind the scenes on our website. Thanks to Zenith who cracked the code within hours of its discovery. Shame that it was designed for Ed to solve :D we accidentally sent him the answer thinking we had won. Turns out, we spoiled a charity livestream event.

The event was planned to go live at 9am uk time, though we had all the clues collected by 4am uk time. Zenith guided Ed through the clues and the event was finished well before the alloted time.

the Canonn is always ahead of the game ;)

Oh I agree, completely - it's exactly why cargo from SRVs doesn't degrade: absolutely right :)

The question is whether UA degradation after being carried in a ship is specifically a feature of the UA that has an explanation inside the game rather than a meta-explanation that makes no sense unless you see it as a game.

The suggestion from MB was that the degradation was 'a feature' of the UA. Now, granted: that's vague enough to mean it's a feature it inherits from 'just another cargo item'; but it could also mean that there's an in-game (I.e. story-based) explanation for why UAs degrade after having been dropped from a ship (which there isn't for other cargo).

If there is, then not degrading after being dropped from an SRV might be significant.

That said - if you report it as a bug, and the response is 'by design', then it succeeds in telling us nothing!

I need a rest!

My guess (read hypothesis) is that the SRV has a gentler eject mechanism. And it's not so far to fall.

Problem is there is no "falling" in space

However, it would be interesting to eject the UA from an SRV while jumping over a canyon... so that the UA fell a significant distance. That'd be a neat trick too!

The bizarre thing about that was there were 3 locations.

Dethrek was at one, Zenith found the other and I just happened to be at the 3rd (Noti), this was all before any of it had even been announced. =p

Only spotted that when I saw the post by Derthek on the Canonn forum then another by Zenith, woulda posted but I only realized Derthek and Zenith had the other locations after the event had started.

Derthek seemed to have found his 15min after it started showing up!
I think it was similar with Zenith too
The Canonn has fingers in many biscuit tins :)

Sorry, missed your reply.
I have a question : what would be the threshold to determine the spread being out of hand?
We already have a number of stations impacted by malfunctions, or simply shut down because of it.
I mean, some of the infected stations are of importance, namely Bond hub for us, and Obsidian Orbital (both for any commander who took part in her construction, and the many involved in UA mystery chase....

Good question - who knows? Although there aren't yet that many actually shut down compared to the number that are malfunctioning. I just think - the evidence has been there for two months now encouraging people to ship them to stations, but we've been somewhat reticent to do so. Rightly so, perhaps.

But what long term problems could it really have? There's got to be a way to stop it, and I'm sure it'll be either found or 'given' to us.

Remember - the Galnet we tried to get posted about all the rares being sold? Wasn't published anywhere. Not even locally in Varati. It wasn't a poorly written article, but it wasn't taken (now, okay, there are many reasons why, but we've had quite a lot of success recently right?). Could be because the rares might become important in the future, we just stepped too far forward.

Also - I'd question whether Bond really is 'important' to us - we have Thompson Dock, and that's not going anywhere. If Bond goes offline, it'll still be ours. and it won't be able to change hands again till it's back online. Plus, we'll have Forsskal soon, too.

Obsidian's a different matter - but I think, like Pat, that it's partly a backlash at it being given to a pirate faction.

You can't stop this kind of subversive behaviour - it's human nature - but that's why I thought let's get other player factions to volunteer stations for it. Fill up the 'quota', if there is one, with stations that other players are happy to lose.

A chance for a bit more cross-group cooperation, and a chance to push the story on our terms, even if we still can't control it (which we wouldn't want anyway).

As a new member of the Canonn. Ive been surprised how difficult it is to find up to date info. I like the idea of the first page of the thread.
What about updating either the Wiki or the Canonn site?

Just an idea :)

The Canonn Site gets updated with important ish news and you then have to follow the posts or topics for more info, for example I had over 7 tabs up of different posts and topics at one point because they seemed active still.

So just to clarify as i'm a little confused. Is that a new CG to find a missing Starship?

Sort of. It seems like it's a CG to progress the story of finding the ship. It's hard to say what the results could be, perhaps some coordinates or a riddle that gives us a clue where to look. Honestly I kind of wish it didn't need to have a CG tied to it and that we could just go find the starship, that would be a whole load more fun in my opinion.

Welcome to the new Unknown Artifact (or artefact) thread!

The old one reached an event horizon where the forums would no longer cope with it, so we have a lovely new thread for you with plenty of room.

The first thread is here - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=141038 and the second is here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=162998, and the third here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=175726

There's another thread on it here - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=142106

There is also wiki - http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_Artefact and a whole website at http://canonn.science/

Now over to Arcanonn who will be your host...

yes it's spelled canonn here, as a nod to Arcanonn who started this...

That's good advice RK; also the 'last 150 comments' page over there is useful for reading discussions that have been going on outside of the forums. The dashboard is also quite useful, too.

For catching up here, I often find just reading through the last 10 pages or so is enough. I do get left behind sometimes, just like everyone else!

Hi guys I just joined to find some evidence about the Aliens InGame.

We should destroy all of them (UAs), when they are really some sort of scanners the Aliens behind this mystical UAs couldnt scan anymore so they have to come ^^

The Release Trailer is defintily showing us some Planetside pics of some really scaring green light things so, somehing should be in merope I think!?

How I said, I am new to this search and I just asked myself, from where or how did the UAs come into the bubble? Maybe some faction is working with the "aliens"?

cheers

Start looking for SSS's around 135-150 light years from merope and shoot any UA you find if you like. We'll be right behind you... just forgot to turn off the oven? Yeah. Let us know when you've got them all.

(Seriously, it's been discussed, but we don't have a workable way of doing with the sheer number of UAs available free-floating in space.)

Could we potentially use the UAs to try and find the Antares? The article does mention significant advances in scanning technology, and the UA scans stuff.

Has anyone ever tried a UA on a salvageable wreckage site to see if it morses something different?

Oddly I'm finding nothing for the Antares CG in salvageable wreckage.

The only lot I've found so far was in a distress signal.

For whatever it's worth, I've started shipping UA's to Walker Survey again, since clearly UA's don't affect that station :p

I'm doing it with my secondary account, because they need some starting scratch so that I can pull this account into my homeworld and do the fighting and stuff when needed to conquer neighbouring systems, then use my main account (which has Horizons) to go exploring planets deep in the black (that way, when I get bored of exploring I can instantly switch to fighting again :) )

So, I take it Walker Survey was your secret location? Just a thought, but I noticed that place doesn't have a regular commodities market, only the black market. Do we know if any of the other affected station had "no commodities market" prior to shutdown? I only asked because I was wondering if the items sold at a station fail to register stats server side if the commodities market is not present...
