UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Has anyone transcribed the Moris from the POI Surface NAV SATS that have been damaged (broken shell) found in some POI. Kind of wondering what they are transmitting and how they came to be broken and crashed on the planet surfaces?

Also the carrier signal hidden in the station displays is still bothering me, it is really quite annoying.

Some words:

- There is no point searching for a cure for the station malfunctions until FD signpost something that makes it clear that that's where we should be headed next. MB even said, in response to a question about whether the spread can be reversed or stopped (in addition to saying it can be stopped) that 'there's science to do first'.
- if there were a way to reverse the issues, then I'd say that our unpublished Galnet saying that we were experimenting with Rare commodities and items (practically all of them) would have been published
- to engage with this mystery is to accept that, sometimes, nothing new will happen for a long period of time. The content being generated for this mystery is not Number 1 on the list of developer time: bugs and new features take precedence over this, I'm sure (and they should).

Do I want to see this thing progress more quickly? Sure I do - but you also have to be ready to switch focus to something else if there's nothing new, to avoid getting 'the rage' :)
- until we get some more leads from Palin via Galnet, we just continue with lots of other activities - Merope for sure, UA shell systems, the California Sector, plus the barnacle thing just because there are missions there to be had! Plus there are stil specific missions to run for the Canonn (well, VIU) to help us secure Varati and/or expand.

Hi LZ. Sorry, but I have to disagree with you (in the truest sense of trying to progress the scientific method ). We know (1) from MB comments that what players do can affect the game, (2) the mechanism for this is probably (from MB comments & JMANIS experiments) FD monitoring SQL server transactions, & likely that multiple players are necessary rather than just a single player doing multiple runs - the SQL transaction trigger is probably a function of the number of players+ total cargo trades rather than just the total number of cargo traded (this ties in with the way that FD uses Community Goals to progress game features), (3) The flurry of UA transactions (presumably largely player-traded though some NPC contributions may have contributed) has resulted in degradation (presumably by some type of infection) of several stations, (4) the original plague was "cured" by Heike tea rare trade deliveries, but that does not imply that the infected station cure will require rares (5) MB strongly implied we will be able to achieve station "cure" but (pre-2.0) science is needed first & the basis was "coming soon" (6) there are new commodities introduced in 1.5/2.0, (7) there was no FD interest in the proposed post re rares & station problems, but from what I remember that post did not mention the new commodities only rares.

To me all this implies that the station cure may be already in our reach (delivery to affected stations of one or more of the new commodities) but that a concerted effort by several (at least) players will be necessary to trigger the server transactions event to get the "cure". It's quite possible that I'm wrong, but I think a useful experiment would be for (say) 5 to 10 players to try to deliver the verious new commodities to an affected station; however it may be feasible to shortcut this process if several players gathered the new commodities & see if they have any affect on degradation of one player's ship holding one (or more) UAs. I suspect this is the science to do first that MB mentioned & this experiment should not take long to try out for one infected ship (curing a station could require a lot of trades!). I dont have the information to hand, but perhaps a look at the the stocks of the new commodities held by the infected stations could help narrow down the list even more- if one or more of the new commodities are the cure then these would likely be in short supply in the infected stations.

Just a post-xmas test!:)

Hi everyone,

I m sorry I didn't read all the thread, but does anyone tried to keep a UA on any kind of landable moon and dropped it on there ?

Mitterrand Hollow could be a place to test.

Thanks and sorry

This isn't necessarily the most apt of locations for this post. However as more of the contributors hereto will have an inkling as to the referents, it's going in here anyway. Mods: feel free to move, amend, edit or otherwise deal as you see fit. Oh, and Merry Christmas to one and all :)
So ladies and gentlemen:
It is highly unlikely that this post will ever see the light of day. Unfortunately in this age of political correctness, the dissenting voice is, erm - frowned upon.
Some background. Recently, yours truly was banned from these here forums on the - not unreasonable - grounds that I was shall we say, disrespectful to one of Frontier's employees.
Which is fine. It's not for you or I to decide what is or isn't acceptable on the forum. As the saying is (and I fully respect): their Forum, their rules.
The problem is the masking of a deeper malais.
Our esteemed leader the mighty Braben, and his epic team of dedicated coders have provided us with some of the most fabulous gameplay ever seen on any platform anywhere in the history of videogames. Most notably with the release of Horizons, the seamless transition from supercruise through orbital cruise and on down into planetary landing is an achievement, in my most humble of opinions, without parallel in the history of gaming graphics. Without delving into the hows, whys, and wherefores, it seems to me that the 'flight mechanic' is flawless. The ships? Fantastic, and each with a definite character of their own.
For myself, an 84'er, Oh Boy! And here I am already with over 1000 hrs under my belt.
Now, let's get critical.
Where's the game? Microsoft's Flight Simulator is fantastic.
But dull.
See where I'm going here?
It's the same: MSFS in space.
The XP Mr Brookes said recently in a post (under the name of our beloved Ed ..................
But the UA story?
Blows.
Hard.
'Moderate' this post if you must.
But understand it is sent out there in the spirit of furthering the mystery, energising the playerbase, and above all, exhalting the developers to live up to our (high) expectations.
FYI this is my last post.
Ban me if you want: I won't notice or care.
But you should.

Mike Rhind

SP good to see you back. And a very merry gold plated Xmas.... and you have a point. Without community support YouTube vids and player group sites this game would be nothing. We get no direction from FD no clear rules on how strong shields are. No true weapons stats no clue how the BGS works. I am all for figuring some of this out and hate with a passion. Go here shoot that Black ops style game play. I want puzzles. I want hard work... I also want fair play !! IF FD can't be bothered to do the work release an API let the community build apps to help us all. Maybe some guidance in the former of an additional FD Web page. Not with how to play step by step guide. But more technical information on ships. Weapons etc... I would happily PAY for a deck of top trumps with all the True specs of weapons. Actual energy used. Heat dissipation in numbers rather than some block with an up down this may be better than the other one little blue arrow. All hail FD now pull your figure out and give your disillusioned children some subtitle hints !!

Again a very dark backdrop, hardly any stars visible, though it might be on a twin planet, since the one visible is so close that they must be influencing each others orbit if not even circling around each other.

EDIT: Oh, and low gravity, look at the wheel thrusters.

Hi LZ.

(Lots of good thoughts)

Your logic is sound - and those new items could well be significant. It's worth trying to flood a station with all of them and keeping an eye on it.

I genuinely don't think it'll do anything, but - like you say - post-christmas testing! Might yield a miracle! ;)

That looks like something....

Not sure if it's genuine?

I'm just inherently sceptic. And, more importantly, deeply aware of the level of talent that lurks around these forums'.

Plus, and I could be wrong, but there are some minor details there that look like they're lift-and-shifts from the trailer, just mirrored.

But I'm happy to be shown that I'm wrong - and for some context. System, planet and location and so on if it is actually meant to be in-game.

Cool pic though. Looks like a beetle or something that faceplanted into the planet!

Interesting for a 2nd post for someone that reg 12/2014 can't see your first post...

I imagine it had something to due with throwing starving dog's some bones with 95% of the meat stripped off ^^^

Yes I have to agree with LZ, the screenshot is taking in full sun but yet it'sa almost pitch black on the surface (just like the trailer). I suspect some sort of copy and paste job and a filling in of the 'gaps'. Looks cool though!

I pm'ed the Commander where he/she got the picture from, but since I have not received an answer yet I will consider this as a joke post for now. Great picture nevertheless.

I think the quick way to test the hypothesis is, as I said, for several players to collect the new commodities & try their effect on a single infected UA-carrying ship. Positive results should be seen quickly & would be a very strong indication of what to do for stations & it shouldn't take too long for seeral players. Could something be organised via the Canonn group? I'm stuck with a houseful of guests to cater for so won't be flying until tomorrow at the earliest (& I'm still 400 ly away).
