UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

I do not remember, if someone let UA to fall on the planet from orbit (freefloater).
If yes, then I am sorry for my inattention.
If not, please someone do it.
I would have done this experiment myself, but I won't be able to play until 5th January.

If you drop an UA from low altitude, it will fall to the groud and break.

If you drop an UA at high altitude, it will fall until it expires.

If you encounter a free floater in orbit, they seem to fall very slowly towards the planet. I don't think anyone has bothered to follow one for a few days, to see what happens. :)

Edit: I think this is correct Newtonian behaviour and that any object in a similar possition will act the same way.

Tinfoil on.
Been thinking about the whole UA Morse thing and trying to workout why would something that possibly means us harm use something we created, the only thought that comes back is if something we made/sent out has had effect in the evolution of something else.
So we know were one of the Voyager space craft is what about the other? And then there are the other two that left the solar system the Pioneer 10 and 11 space craft. i just cant find out if they transmitted Morse or not or if they are in game.
We can eliminate the colony sips there is no reason for them to use Morse.

Perhaps some sort of relay experiment would be needed there, we all take an hour.

Right, are we all done whining, some of us have had a good old moan including me here on the threadnaught.
Xmas is all but done and a new year approaches Time to get back to some Gaming !
In the words of Sun Tzu its "time to divide and conquer"
Choose your attack plan
.
Alpha, Search for and take Meta Alloy jobs
Beta, Planet side in the Pleiades, don't forget old haunts such as HR 1185
.
Were currently bobbing around Merope 1A
.
Feel free to ignore me if you wish, this is just my opinion, Good luck commanders o7

TBH I've spent a lot of time in HR 1172 and its planets. Nothing so far.

I'm in HIP 25563. I can't match the barnacle photo in system although there are some very Green planets. I've dropped in on some POI but nothing beyond the normal sites. I might head back to the 5th and 6th Class B systems I passed as they may be better candidates.

Just a thought, possibly expanding on the roadmap idea...

If these things tend to orient the round end towards Merope, is there any correlation between the patterns on the round part of the UA and features on any of the celestial bodies there? Like a planet's craters matching the blue-green shapes on the UA, for example.

Think its time i got my self out there and had a look my self for these blooming Barnacles, well right after a get myself a Cobra mkIV so i can have planetary landings and cargo space or its all a bit pointless searching.
On another note i wonder if its worth plotting out the locations of where the Meta Alloys missions turn up there could be some sort of correlation.
That's exactly my plan once I get back to my computer in the new year. I'm going to sell my Imperial Eagle and outfit a Cobra MkIV for planetary exploration. I'm also going to try, for the third time, to get proficient in FA off, which is probably a really smart idea to do while trying atmospheric flight for the first time.

If you'd like to wing up let me know. The great advantage of teaming up with me is that I double up as a wingman and as crashed ship wreck to explore ;)

Been working on the map idea for a while. Everything is too irregular to easily match to a planet surface. I also thought the blue/green 'cells' could be stars and the size could be relative magnitude, but couldn't find a match. There are 9 tiny holes on the cell walls, I thought these might be markers for systems, being the seven sisters with ma and pa, and they kinda match. Not precisely, so I wonder if it's a witchspace map, and doesn't exactly reflect normal space. Even if those ideas are correct though, I can't find anything that would indicate orientation or a direction. Also, the sides with the cells on them are the same or very close, but flipped (depending on perspective).

The thing that made me think the tiny spots might be stars is that in any contemporary map of the nebula I can find, it always has Atlas and Asterope very close to another star, and there are two tiny holes in the correct relative positions to be Atlas and Asterope with their companions, as seen from Sol.

..... Maybe Sol is one of the directions of orientation, Merope being the other? Need a third to make it work though.

Fifth edit: Is there anything to be read in the pointed, dotty triangles? I was trying to use the points to line up a system, but obviously it didn't work, because X never marks the spot.

I have stored my Cobra for an Asp now. The jump range got a bit low, with all the extra wieght from the SRV.

I have setteld on a search area near Taurus Dark region, in the UA shell.

I have two objectives.

1) Search POIs for anything Barnacle related (I hope we will be able to find eggs or mini barnacles in the shell soon).

2) Collect materials for SRV level 3 synt. When I have the materials, I will synt. them with an UA in the SRV hold. The hope is that it will stop the UA damaging the SRV.
This could point towards a cure for stations.

This should keep me ocupied for a few weeks. :)

Does the UA Damage the SRV also ? I had not heard that?

If the meta alloy description states they they're common in certain regions of space yet none have been found so far in merope or the pleides, it might make sense to fan out to other areas as some have already proposed or are doing. Presumably it won't be a completely random region but hopefully in the vicinity of some type of astronomical object like a nebula.

Or if not near a nebula or other region annotated on the galaxy map, then it would almost have to be within some reasonable distance from the habitated bubble, else the search area could be absurdly large, given the volume of a sphere scaling exponentially as a function of radius and all that.

I couldn't agree more. Sigon and other CMDRs including myself think scouring the UA shell could be a good start. Just take RedWizzard's spreadsheet, add a column entitled "Barnacle POI", and fill it with NO or...hm YES depending on the system. I know we can't give a straight answer if the spawn rate is similar to that of the UA spawn in 1.3 but hey, we have to start somewhere, don't we?

Hi Chaps, trying to catch up,

Is the general opinion we need to take the mission first to find Meta-Alloys, or should we be able to locate them regardless?
