UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

About point 3: I'm away from my gaming computer until the end of the week, so this is not firsthand knowledge, but from what I understand the UA drifts towards the planet at about 7m/s, so it would probably take anywhere from weeks to months of following a UA, depending of distance to the planet, for it to reach the planet surface. So I doubt it's an experiment that we can do in-game, but I'm happy to be corrected.

Do they always descend at 7m/s? I was wondering if their planetfall velocity changes with the planets gravity. If it doesn't I think that raises a couple of questions.

If comfirmed, this could be the first UA Convoy spotted in a very long time!
This could support the theory that some of the infected stations, and Warkushanui is the first that comes to mind, are infected by this activity. This thing needs further inspection, remembering that the odds of spotting an UA convoy could be VERY low, if the spawn rate is the same as in 1.2.
HIP 15609 is on my list. I should check the map to see if it is close to the old spawning locations (ex. TIMOCANI)

I'm there now with a cargo scanner. Lots of SSS, no convoy so far.

141Ly from Timocani

Happened to be in Sol and noticed the Sol Sentinel published Morris on a Carrier group signal that was hacked i did try to decode it but i was not able to the article is dated DEC 22.

About the Barnacle/UA/Meta-alloy/Planetside mysterious structure linkage, I agree with you %100. It's perfectly good science to postulate they are one and the same and then test that hypothesis. All I've done in the past is raise a flag when I've seen someone referring to them in a way that could lead others to believe that it's known or universally accepted that they indeed are the same. So science away commander! :)

No problem Cmdr! That was probably me- I hate typing, especially on this keyboard, so tend to type shorthand sentences (I tend to speak a bit tersely as well- it's my Yorkie upbringing!) & may have given the wrong impression- I'm just throwing out ideas for experiments in the hope that the active tinfoils amongst us may try some of them out. May get around to doing some experimenting myself eventually ...so many things in RL to do!! :)

Yes, the problem with experiment 3 is that I can see no way to shorten the timescale-if you pick up a UA & move it nearer the moon to give it a helping hand then I understand it starts to degrade on ejection from the ship & may not make it to the surface. How about giving it a push with the nose of the ship to increase its velocity? The trouble then is its impact velocity may be too high, however since it will be subject to acceleration from the moon's gravity then it may suffer that anyway. Would be nice to know the distance a moving UA is found away from the moon it is heading towards & calcualte the likely impact velocity- presumably it has no retro thrusters to slow itself down! :D

This was reported at the time by Nazdakka on 23/12 08:23; Jackie Silver, the person who found it, posted that the Morse translation was "freighter under pirate attack, we've gone down on Charon at -45(S), -80(W)."

Anyone else having issues finding a UA recently?

I've been looking for one for more than an hour and none showed up yet.
And yes, I'm at the area where it should be it's not my first time finding one...I tried flying around with various speeds, resetted the instance restarted the game I guess I'm the unluckiest pilot at the moment :D

Am I in a parallel universe?

I'm certain the UAs read the forums. The moment you start complaining about finding one it will show up only to make you look like a fool.
They want to chase us into suicide by ashaming us.
Mystery solved...

Sorry if its already been done before.

How my theories held up;

1. I had theorized that the station type could be a factor. e.g. older station types more vulnerable.
Busted - Orbis, Corilis, Ocellus and Outpost types affected.
2. I theorized station economy may have been a factor. e.g. certain types of industrial machinery were vulnerable.
Busted, I counted seven different economies affected.
3. I theorized population may be a factor. More people = more attractive 'target'
Couldn't find per station population. Probably looking in wrong place.
4. I theorized there was significance in the body a station orbited.
Interesting result. There seems a definite trend to damage stations orbiting metal rich or high metal content worlds. Atmospheres on a lot (although different atmospheres). Earth type worlds also cropped up a bit too. Only one icy rock entry.
5. I theorized that the system star makeup could be a factor. e.g. certain wavelengths of light affected process
Busted - No pattern. Main sequence but thats it.
6. I theorized that distance from the star could be important. e.g. intensity of light affects process.
Inconclusive. Anything from 49ls to 1418ls. Too varied to be important?

Conclusions
Seems to be a bit of a trend towards stations orbiting metal content bodies. Seems.

Does anyone have a couple of entries of stations that people tried to cause problems with? curious to know if it adds to this research.
If anyone has the data from Pic Tok or Iapodes please let me know if theres anything interesting there.

Hi there!

Nice work here. I was fooling around with Trade Dangerous Data ang produce following table

It is clear and obivous that this disease spread only for selling the UA on Black Market. The more UA's sold, the more f** up the station will be. Seem's like some groups went "undermining" Archon Delaine a little... :)

Those three stations that has Black Market = No has them suspended already.

Hy guys , I have a question. I have re watched the launch trailer of horizons, and the banacles part, feels WAY darker then normal planets shadow zone. I've just found planets that dark inside the coalsack nebula near a T6 Star.

I just meant areas in the shell where people haven't reported UAs yet. One thought was that perhaps there is a region in the shell where there aren't free floaters and Barnacles could be found there.

I noticed in 1.4 there seemed to be areas in the shell where there wasn't any UA activity. I spent between 10 and 15 minutes in several systems looking, then moving onto another system for a good few hours, then when I found a system where a UA spawned after a couple of minutes pretty much every other system nearby spawned one. With tinfoil hat firmly in place, I was thinking maybe the UA sightings in the shell were "drawing" the topographical landmasses of a planet.

This gives me some vibes for Maia. If you want the darkest dark, go to the system where there is an Black hole.. But Pleiades Nebula glows at Maia.. Just a thought.

As some where also talking about materials, germanium and Selenium found in Merope 2D -29.32 -104,02 (duno if that really helps but the crater is very dark) And 4 crashed nav beacons.

yes was my 1° go but its not that dark at all, the nebula works like a gigantic difusor, and everything got a redish color way diferent than this one i'm on now...

take a look:

I tried flying from the black hole Maia to the Merope system instead of jumping ... 4,27 Ly ... but after an hour I gave up ... :( nothing seen.
I was thinking there was maybe a planet or something in between the 2 systems ... as there is no reason why this would not be possible ...

Centroid of ALL listed systems (including Warkushanui twice since it appears twice):
-46.9911-44.5692-95.9665

If you remove one of the Warkushanui's and count it only once:
-47.3269-41.4495-103.829

The closest system to this is HIP 15609, with coordinates -47.0625 / -41.0625 / -106.1875

Checking HIP 15609, 2 convoys reported, the second was carrying an UA probably. I will get a cargo scanner for the next time.
