Is Elite Dangerous a Dad's Game Played mainly by "non-gamers"?

Erm...
I must be speaking some unknown language...
I said: Space is a living, vibrant 'entity'.
If you are in the slightest way familiar with astronomy, you would understand what I precisely said.
Now, in here, we have, being humans, spread out over a sector of the universe, we have stations with billions of people upon it... and which are DEAD in the purest form of the word.
Planets: dead.
NPC's: DEAD as dead can be. (I'm do not mean the pirates I've blown away).
There is no interaction, missions are either virtually non-existent (Kill X Pirates as example), Or they are like: Go kill. Kill dude. Get payed.
Dafu... dge?
Something is not quite right, IMHO....

I totally agree,
everytime a new sci-fi space game comes out it uses the following words to appeal:
vibrant
breathing
living

Just like the once famous word "epic" every use of them makes them less significant.

I suspect part of your problem is focusing too much on ranking up to get the bigger ships.
Actually, not quite.
I have a V, outfitted, and I will eventually get me a new ship.... but an Eagle!!!
God I just so love that bird, even if extremely vulnerable.
I took on up to elite Condas with it, and turn them into dust.
But they may not hit you, not once.

No, see, being autistic... it's like OCD: I just NEED!!! to get top rank in my faction.
I can't care less for credits, I just want to get my top Rep ranks.
I can't help it, sadly... :(

ED isn't a fast paced game: Check

Conclusion - There are no gamer games. There are no Dad games. There are just games. Each have their own merits, and you either like them or not. Sometimes a change of pace is refreshing.

I'm probably classed as a 'dad-gamer'. I've never spent a huge amount of time on games and will tend to have one time-sink on the go with smaller casual games for when I have a spare fifteen minutes here and there. My time-sink is ED and my casuals at the moment are Defence Grid 2 and Big Pharma.

So despite playing games to some degree since the Spectrum 128K+2 in about 1987, I wouldn't say I'm an avid gamer despite always having something, be it computer or console, to play games on.

I think ED has brought a lot of old gamers back who might have been out of the scene for a while and has also attracted a large solo game player. On the one hand I think that's a fantastic achievement and welcome but I do find the anti PvP sentiment somewhat naive.

Except being a full combat oriented player (I do not mean PvP/Piracy).
These in the current version are nerfed into oblivion.
I need my missions to get into better reps, but i simply cannot.
One of the things addressed by me, btw, and supported by some.

maybe its just the way i look at things.. but it is often the annoying things, or the unintentional hiccups that provide the most realism (whether by design or fault). i mean, why should the rep work the way you want it too? why should a particular mission type always reward the same rep/influence/credits? why should everything have the predictability of a metronome. do you mean the quick rep route, from mode switching? if so, when they took it out, that wasn't a nerf, that was a fix.

some people are only happy playing the game for rewards, while others get rewards while happily playing the game.

Having an epic intro didn't improve that movie at all;)
Does E: D have epic trailers and movies? Yep.
True, but when someone says Epic and thinks of of a song, it'd probably is this one. XD

Morbid Angel - To The Victor The Spoils is for most "kids" apparently THE issue, where i can't be bothered with them.
Unless, you see rep as spoils, of course.

Note: Since a pure combatant, I am relying on a certain type of missions, sadly.
I could go pirate and just do billions of those missions, but i am no pirate...
Odd, why do pirates and other criminals DO get missions, where Empire/Republic/Independent lack these?

most of the anti pvp sentiment has come from players personal experience of pvp.. so how exactly does that make it naive?

25 years old, just fresh out of studies, girlfriend but not a wife.

I want Elite to be more deep, complex and hard, more socialized and pvp oriented.

I don't want Elite to stay as screenshot simulator 2033.

I don't enjoy the game yet and would like to see Frontier choose their side.

Yep, I 'check' with those points to. Just one more:

Middle Aged with growing belly: Check

I am a PC gamer who plays/played a variety of games eg Stalker Series (still!), Football Manager in its various incarnations every year since '94, all Fallouts, all GTA's, all Xwing games, Falcon 4, all Wing Commander Games, Dishonoured, Alien Isolation, all Doom games, Euro Truck Simulator, all Arma games, Half Life 1&2 and on an on.

I'd say thats a reasonable mix of pacing throughout. I would not consider myself a 'non gamer'. Actually let me clarify myself as a 'PC Gamer' as i don't do mobile games or consoles. (What's that? The xbox I bought for the kids at xmas? Shhh, nobody will know that the Forza 6 just ordered is for me)

There's unintentional things that provide a certain realism and unintentional things that just demonstrate that the background simulation / generation / seeding is faulty and actually unrealistic ... "does not make sense".
Can't let the developer get away with the latter.

For the mission issue - I'd guess they added new mission types with Horzions, but forgot to either
a) increase the number of total missions available to give the same intended width of choice
b) tinker with the probabilities of certain missions being created, marginalizing some that were "working as intended" before, while overrepresenting some others

Regardless of what the OP said, I bet you there are now a bunch of real gamers pointing at this thread on Reddit and laughing, due to the amount of dadgamer indignation it has caused to be expressed.

To indiebob: why does it matter? Yes, I've read your original post, but I failed to grasp your meaning.

It doesn't matter other than satisfying my curiosity. There's definitely nothing wrong with being a dadgamer or dadgame.

For me complex and hard is great. More Social and PvP orientated not great. Just not my thing. I enjoy the game at the moment.
