UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Not sure if I have missed something here, but why do people keep saying that the UA shell is expanding? What evidence is there of that?

All the UAs I have found in the shell are stationary, when I nudge them they move but then return to stationary. That suggests to me that that want to be stationary where they are, as otherwise they would just continue to drift after being nudged.

Tin hat theory time ... what if the UAs are already in their intended positions and creating some sort of energy field we cannot see centered on the star in Merope. From the damage they do to our ships and the station disruptions, they are certainly emitting some sort of radiation. The visual distortion and glitter would also back this up.

You could check the "shell" for holes,
holes could indicate areas with something noteworthy.
Also the spread of UA should be mapped continuously (distance to Merope),
to see if it moves.

Ive often wondered if there is an "appendage" or "tendril" of UA spawns from the main shell, leading or pointing somewhere...

I'm back in Pleione POI'ing as whatever the spawn location(s) it still has to fit in somewhere close ish with Mr Palins research too doesn't it ?

From an organised search point of view could we target specific planets on specific evenings and clear system by system working out from Merope by Blue star and high metal content ? Don't know what you would class as searched... could some baseline parameters of a search be established ?

Do admire most CMDRs tenacity in this endevour though :) Respect o7

Sorry I said it, I have no evidence!

I am a bit out of touch with UA stuff.

The reason I mentioned whether it is expanding or not, is because if it isn't then I think we should search within the shell.

But if it is expanding then perhaps we should search just outside the shell. (on the assumption the UAs haven't yet found what they are looking for)

But I'm kinda assuming from what's been said that the shell is static so I think in the shell makes most sense. =p

Yeah, there's no actual evidence of the shell expanding at all - it was just what we expected, but it hasn't happened.

Thanks PanzerTard and Squiggsy - that'll come in handy :)

Any systems inside the shell that share features with Merope (Type of sun etc..)?

On topic of searches:
I could imagine a large community effort with dozens of CMDRs deploying their SRVs,
6Km apart to have a full search pattern on a planet and then just head in one general direction,
stop after x distance, listen to the scanner and check oddities.

rizal, is this the post you were referring to with instructions on setting up Sonic Visualizer?

Took me a bit, all I found initially was more posts where you said you used SV, and to search the word visualizer for instructions :p

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=175726&page=490&p=2922881

the visualization there isn't very clear to me...

however, this is very clear: http://i.imgur.com/XOqkf2d.png

This may be a long shot, but I was recently thinking about a few timeline events.

First, after the war, the Thargoids dissapeared for a long time. Eventually they returned, roughly about 45-50 years ago, and then disappeared again. There were a few odd things that occured around that time, notably the disappearance of the Highliner Antares (as well as a few other ships at almost the exact same time) in a hyperspace accident which, if i recall, led to a whole line of new hyperdrive engines being recalled from development. We all know the Thargoids are masters of FTL travel and had the ability to interdict hyperdrive travel (making frameshift interdiction look like child's play). This isn't a new theory, I know, but it occurs to me - maybe we're looking in the wrong place. Sirius is already investigating this as we speak, but from the looks of it, there's not much progress being made yet.

I doubt we'll find Meta Alloys in the wreckage of the Antares, and maybe it was simply a malfunction of a prototype hyperdrive. But hyperdrive accidents are almost unheard of - even 50 years ago. I think there's probably more to this, and it strikes me as a bit odd that very few people are even talking about this investigation, let alone participating in it.

I suppose the real question is - why would the Thargoids give a crap about a Sirius Corp transport? Not to mention the several other colonization ships which were also lost around the same time.

They had drives that are still poorly understood, and the same ones as the S1. These drives are about as reliable as the Space Shuttle...

A number of people have quoted the 1 to 1 scale galaxy as a reason something is futile.

This is not accurate. This is a video game...not real space.

1. Its been previously mentioned that these are common in regions of space. We arent searching the 1 to 1 galaxy...we are searching for a region in the galaxy. Region in galactic terms usually implies much larger than a few systems.

2.Our history with the devs also plays into this. If we dont find it...or are searching the correct areas without results devs have traditionally stepped in and given hints or direct answers.

3. This is a game. These items have been created to be found. This game just has a different idea of difficulty than most games nowadays. Think NES here rather than p2w we are accostomed to nowadays.

This post isnt meant to target the way u play or do things ayal...but a number of people have used this line of thinking in the past and its flawed. They are not impossible to find. They might not jump out at us though.
I honestly don't care about the meta alloys anymore because now I know Michael said they are in the game and they can be found and that there are some pois that are carefully implemented in some places so there is your clue to find them ... My problem is where do we find them ?
Land like I said I'm not gonna act like silent pact ( he apologized by the way ) and :):):):) everyone off , I realized that a while ago and therefore decided to go back in deep space and get my elite rank , already found a neutron star field and that's where I'm heading
hope this post answered everything

A very good thought.
I'd say even if there were thargoids, they needn't be an active part for the FSD to malfunction.
The presence of the UA within civilized space, might've been enough.

There is and was a lot of stuff happening parallel,
and it is unclear what ties in to what, i guess.
It isn't useless to spend some time to read up on the galnet articles
and do something "sherlock holmes" style, putting excerpts on the wall with the date of the events happening.

I am pretty confused currently what we gotta deal with.
We got the UA, we got the Antares CG, we got a missing President,
a dead emperor (which was residing in Archenar "End of the River of Eridanus").
There is a multitude of stuff that just invites to theorize and connect it to the wrong events.

I might try and put up a mindmap with dates and post it here, so we got something to keep track of events.

Here's what I got from the first 30 seconds, using a Chrome tool called Beautiful Audio Editor to cut out the static. I found it very hard to cut out all of the ambient humming though. (I guess that means there were 4 layers... ambient humming, clicks, static, and beeps.)

KRNERNOKOEBOK

Sounded like there was a letter that got cut off at the beginning, which I ignored. Does this match what you got?

I tried to draw that out (roughly - no software) it is remeniscant of a thargon from the old elite. I worked backwards assuming that there is a missing letter.

Anyone got the software?

I went out to 1 minute:
KRNERNOKOEBOKBRENR?BKN?OB

The ?'s indicate codes that I couldn't quite make out due to the ambient humming. They were just after 0:43 and 0:53.

It's funny you mention the Emperor (former). Emperor Hengist Duval once titled himself "Ally to the Aliens" after the Thargoid reappearance. It's probably nothing, but my conspiracy theory bone wants me to believe the INRA is actually still around and plotting some Machiavellian scheme. "But the INRA was disbanded!" you might say. Maybe that's what they want you to believe!

It's just a forum roumor that cap. Ships have the old hyperdrives. They probably have military drives, but it's not the same type.

Just noticed that there are inhabited systems quite far out in the direction of the Pleiades. I'm not sure if there might be one or two actually in the shell, or maybe barely outside. I'm going to try to find out tomorrow and check them out.

By the way, in what kind of signal sources are the UA's to be found? Don't like dropping into SSS too much...

Bad luck!
It is S.S.S.es ;)

Just to try to take the above theory one step further.

If we assume our target search area is the 135-150LY shell in a sphere around Merope.

Well this is still a large area.

Can we reduce this down?

Well presumably, assuming one or more Thargoid vessels, can we assume they started around Pleione/Merope (which seems like it might be a staging point) and were heading in some direction?

If so what direction, can we assume it was towards us, the populated bubble?

If so we could reduce the search area to a window in the 135-150LY shell that points at the bubble from a start point of Pleione/Merope.

This could actually be a relatively small-ish area?

Of course any Thargoid ship could have started elsewhere and be headed in a completely different direction.

Although if any of this holds water I do wonder why the UA search shell is spherical.

To add a bit more..

I'm thinking a decent method of attack might be to head to Merope..

Then pin-point the systems representing the outer limits of the "window" that points at the bubble and where it intersects with the shell.

Document then search that.

But in leui of a "window plot" an easy method might be :

  1. Head to Merope
  2. Plot fast route to some place Thargoids might want to attack ie Sol
  3. Jump till you're just before the start of shell
  4. Switch to economical and replot
  5. Jump the eco route checking planets for large barnacles as you progress through the shell

Repeat changing 2 to something else.

Talking of thargoids, in FFE the system you got your thargoid '(barni) ship was "ace Station, Miackce (37,144)"I have not look up the map to see if there is anything there worth looking at.

If you're not rage quitting then could you please keep your negativity to yourself?
We get it, your frustrated. Do something else for a while, check in from to time to see if there's progress, if you still care, but stop commenting every idea with something that boils down to "you're just wasting your time anyway".

i didn't join the canonn to quit due to critsization I'm here to stay

I can easily answer you but since there are people here whom I have deep respect for who they are and what they have accomplished I'm gonna remain silent
Just know that I totally disagree with the critisizations you made about me
