Broken Promises, A Collection

This is years later, they are already rolling out long term features such as planets. This is the long run.

Years? Are you from the future? Game has been out for just over 1 year now, development for over twice that amount of time, and has a 10 year timeline for it's plan, so....huh?

Not to mention that quite a bit of the stuff in those dev diaries, yeah, blue skying, not going to happen at all, much like the DDF, great ideas in there, also a metric ton of mostly horrible ideas that 5 or so people insist would make the game AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! and needs to implemented last year or ELSE!@#!#!#E@! Some of the things you've listed, not going to happen at all, like player owned stations, yeah, no. Nor will we be seeing stations being constructed, due to the mechanics of the game engine and networking, it's not something that we'll be getting to see, at least not any time soon, maybe in a few years...but I rather doubt it myself, lot of work for something so few people would ever even notice.

I also find it funny that you used the 'call it in' bit and TOTALLY missed what it was about. NPCs call YOU the player in, you don't call others in, and hey, guess what, that's in the game! I died thanks to that as a matter of fact just last night, Distress Call, drop into one some time why don't you, they vary on what you'll find...I found wings of pirates attacking some poor schlub, did what I could to keep him alive but 16 pirates, 4 of them in Anacondas, was just too much for my poor Python to handle at once...at least I died firing!

You HAVE played the game lately, right? Or at least read the forums and seen people talking about things in that list of yours that are in the game right now, like damage models and distress calls...right?

It's true a lot hasn't been translated into the game, now.

A lot of it is still 'down the road'. I think I covered pretty well in an earlier post the biggest mistake I made was assuming a lot of the DDF stuff was for the game on release when really a lot of it has been discarded because of the realities of game design and some has been put off, again, because of the realities of game design.

A lot of what was talked about is a wish list and a lot of it is still coming, just not on release.

Trust me, I've been MUCH happier since I realised that.

They were clear about some things coming later, such as planets, walking around etc. None of the things here fell under that.

Ah, you mistakenly thought all those things would be included in 1.0? A somewhat silly but honest mistake I guess, and now you know better.

Mystery solved! :D

I just looked up several very recent videos of fighting anacondas. There isn't a shadow of damage states. There's some smoke and fire effects but that's fairly standard since 20 years ago. If you've torn gashing holes into the sides of an anaconda without killing it I'd like to see that screenshot. Even if it were on the anaconda that's still not great, it should be on every ship.

It took 2 seconds with google to find these, and I see it in game all the time.

I think the damage model is of far higher quality then your complaints. ;) By the way, its topics like this that actually make me pre-emptively feel sorry for Chris Roberts...

edit-ninja. Guess Dipso also knows the ancient Chinese secret of 'Google'. :p

I built a desk about a year back, had plans all drawn up thing was going to be awesome it had a place for everything, then I started to build the desk. all of the sudden I was met with the reality that I am not God and can't make all of my ideas and desires-- even though I had planned it out and budgeted. I started having to cut ideas out because the cost was growing despite initial budgeting, time was also becoming an issue. In the end I decided to remove several of my original ideas so that I could have a desk for my computer. I have never designed a game before but I would have to imagine that it is much like the building of a desk--- you can dream big and that is great but in the end you have to make a game. In all honesty I really enjoy ELITE, I would like to see more but it sure as heck beats any other Space ship game out right now ---- especially that other one that is not even out and has a SUPER large budget.

You were saying? So, no, you haven't played recently and are just going by your own opinions based on what you saw, what, a year ago?

Thats a damage mesh, not a model for one. A model would imply that it is in some shape or form dynamic in nature. That aesthetic damage is not. Much like being able to destroy a piece of a wood shelf in half life, its not a model if its scripted for only that outcome to happen after a threshold is met. Do damage anywhere on the Conda, and you will see the same result everytime. Ergo, its not a model at all.

Its still like that currently ingame, I literally just looked not 10 minutes ago.

I'm not the last to complain, but to believe ED could have done all this one year post release is not really serious.

And when would it be reasonably to expect these things to come out? Season 1? That's over, and season 2 is all booked up with planet and multicrew stuff I imagine. Next year? In 10 years? Or as Kristov suggests, never? A feature without an ETA might as well be "never".

I don't think it was unreasonable to expect at least most of it at launch since it's in marketing materials used to hype the kickstarter. Maybe they should have delayed the game to make it happen but it seems like getting in on holiday sales is more important to them. Even if they didn't they really should have focused the first year of support on implementing some of the features. We didn't really get anything.

I got the game for cheap during the pre-horizons sale and while I've gotten more than my money's worth of playtime it really feels lacking n comparison to what was suggested from the dev diaries, and most of those features are stuck on the huge to do list of feature FD haven't implemented. I hope they'll get around stuff, particularly improvements to the BGS but I'm a bit concerned that FD has communicated much about this. It would be good if FD communicate more with the player base about the state of the game. They already pay attention the the forums and the E:D Subreddit and I, and I think a lot of other players, would hugely appreciate it if the Dev use them for talk about how the game is coming along with the players.

Look, there's two ways to make and sell a huge space game:

Elite Dangerous: Release the base game, and layer features on over a long period of time, possibly years.

Star Citizen: Stay in development for a long time, possibly years, and then release everything at once.

Both methods are valid, but apparently whichever way you do it, you will make someone angry.

For god's sake, everyone chill. Play the game. Or don't. Whatever.
