UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

It's fine, he didn't respond to my question.

Someone on the subreddit was talking about 'clicking' noises, but I along with many others think this person is only hearing the proximity sound effects.

Welp if you feel like checking out the spot on 1A my coords were 38.4594, -22.0455. Sounded like a pulsing wind noise inside a big metal drum or something.

Something strange at Ajoku 3, a large triangular black shape on the planet.

I have landed in the area and about to go out for a drive.

More than likely the RNG is invoked on the above two triggers, with a very, very low threshold for a barnacle POI. I think the only option you have of improving your odds with these types of POIs is investigating as many as possible, unfortunately.
Actually, The further out you go from human space the less types of POIs appear. You only have about 5, maybe 6, unique POIs that appear >1000lys out, and not all of those appear when you are flying. Oh, and there are no working skimmers as well.

I'm thinking of possibly heading out to Lagoon. MB did say to check nebulae(plural).

As my first decree I would like to implement a forum post tax. I think we can all agree that the threads are growing very very fast and I reckon the only way to stop this is to charge the princely sum of One Chocolate Bourbon per post. We will be counting each post made from this post forward and expect to receive your Chocolate Bourbons at the end of each month. This shall henceforth be known as the “Biccy Tax”

I'm sorry, but you demonstrate a complete inability to impose any such tax by your use of the phrase 'Chocolate Bourbon' as there is no such object. A Bourbon is a Bourbon and by it's very nature chocolaty. What's next, the Vanilla Custard Creme?

Ladies and Gentleman, I submit to you that no Brit, perhaps no Human would make this mistake. Could this imposter be... an Alien?

Are you near the equator? I've seen that on another planet and came to the conclusion it was some sort of graphical "knitting" glitch between the two hemispheres - the triangles were a bit like a rainbow - always just a bit further away!

Murp, I kept looking in that canyon on Merope 2A. Found a crashed nav beacon way up in the ciiff wall; that may be the source of our noises.

Hey Guys

I just wanted to say thank you for all the congratulations thrown my way since I was dragged onto the council. I truly believe The Canonn has so much to contribute to the entire galaxy and I am always proud to call myself a member.

On a serious note though, if you have an idea, any idea that may work well for The Canonn then don’t be scared to give me a nice PMing. Anything from Canonn Events to website requests and on to The Biscuit Olympics. Even if the idea seems like a stupid one, it may very well spark an idea that no one else thought of! So P your Ms into my Inbox and keep your eyes peeled for BARNACLES !!

On a side note, I am surprised no one has tried Rick rolling the UAs yet……

A brave man indeed. May his inbox rest in peace.

This might just be the best deductive reasoning I've seen on this thread. He's right, we've got ourselves an alien!

Cool, I'll bookmark this and check it out later. I spent a lot of time in Atlas this afteroon and have had to take a break because this whole thing is driving me nuts.

I am unable to up-load the screen shot but it is very large, I guess it is going to become something in the future, but you can land on Ajoku 3.

It could be a clue! Kentucky is the primary state where bourbon is made, so we need to search within the coordinates of Kentucky on every planet!

Guys!!!!

I think I just had an epiphany. I have a theory, god please let this be right. Bare with me as I do some preliminary tests.

We've been told that we may find barnacles given the right conditions, perhaps this is not necessarily planetary conditions but player created conditions. Has anyone tried ship mining lasers on mountain regions?

Just an idea as I've been low level flying across worlds and am in the same boat I.e. Found squat lol!

... innovative drive technology ... mmm, biscuits.

Yep, with innovative drive technology & meta-alloy structure/armour I think we will be getting a new class of heavy duty ship- all we need is the new super weapons to go with it & then maybe we can beat up on the....... UAs!!!
oh, we've already done that

While stationary in the required altitude range, I've never seen a POI suddenly appear. Obviously that's anecdotal evidence, but I'd be surprised if it were a time-based trigger. It'd be enormously unsatisfying if you left your ship hovering there, and a POI suddenly appeared underneath you and it contained the barnacle. If correct, it shouldn't matter whether you play one 24 hour session or 24 1-hour sessions, you'll have an equal chance of finding them.

Do you remember how we used to hunt the UA convoys, don't you?
It's very sad to remember it, but we stayed stationary (that means very slowly cruising) in SC for hours, waiting for the right SSS to spawn in front of us. Rinse and repeat.
I fear and suspect that the mechanics have not changed too much, still.
The only slight difference is that, this time, you need to cruise a little much, and the POIs will spawn all around you, one containing the Barnacle, eventually.

The only real innovation since then, is that now we can have also persistent SS and POIs. That's why I prefer to hunt for them. At least they are somewhere.

I hope to be wrong, this time. But I doubt it.
Sorry to disappoint someone here but I doubt those mechanics are changed. There is nothing that lets me think it's different.

I say we kidnap Mr Brookes and keep forcing him to eat Rich Tea's, till he jabs his finger down on a map pointing to a specific planet in the Pleiades... and grunts "tthheree ttherree"...

Anyhow back to looking like a Meerkat in my DBX cockpit !
