Sorry for the (maybe) stupid question, but are people conneting the barnacles with the green glowing things on the trailler right? Someone around there dedicated time on exploring the dark sides expecting green glowing things?
I jumped in the search yesterday and had similar thoughts after I had read all the latest info. Still trying to get my bearings...

Excuse the noob question, but what is the origin of the term Barnacle in the context it is being used here? I've been trying to find out how their existence came to be known if nobody has ever seen one?

Michael Brookes specifically called them barnacles.

Until proved wrong, yes a lot are. Work with what you have.

Until that theory is exhausted, in which case moving, to another. I am currently on theory set 5, or 6 now. When that doesn't work, I'll change.

While some are searching dark sides (been there done that), I am searching where they join the light side now in misty craters...until that proves fruitless.

Look at that! ... a Barneycle, wow!

Has anyone got a still shot of the barnacle area in the trailer at its widest frame. What clues could be gained from the light and rock surface

Not stupid at all. Yes & Yes. I spent time in tidal locked planets on their dark side or transition zone (dawn/dusk). Nothing.
.
Due to space madness I came up with this and posted it a few days ago in the other thread.
I'm loosely following the Barnacles stories in both threads.
I had a few thoughts, and if they have been discussed before, just ignore this post ;)
.
Alien planetary extraction site: What if the picture shows an alien planetary extraction site, similar to the one humans are using. Difference is, since the AU looks organic and if linked, the extractors might be too and are organic hybrids. Thinking about it - Barnacle can also refer to a lichenLink, a symbiotic organism that has more capabilities than the individual organism, these alien extractors harvest the resources from the planet and convert it into the meta material. So I expect to find a structure surrounded or next to the barnacles. This one is called British Soldiers, just showing lichen can make these structures.

Their bubble. I’d like to think that the AU’s are something like frontier markers of their habituated space. And that the location of the Barnacles is within their bubble, or as stated within the nebula. I posted a nebula theory earlier on along with a list of supernova – the closest one is Crab Nebula. Anyway, at this point I’ll look for metal rich / high metal content planets in their bubble, since I would expect them to have these harvesting outpost a bit farther away from the Seven Sisters.

I’m heading out with my combat/explorer ASP to their bubble. Wish me luck.

Do you remember how we used to hunt the UA convoys, don't you?
It's very sad to remember it, but we stayed stationary (that means very slowly cruising) in SC for hours, waiting for the right SSS to spawn in front of us. Rinse and repeat.
I fear and suspect that the mechanics have not changed too much, still.
The only slight difference is that, this time, you need to cruise a little much, and the POIs will spawn all around you, one containing the Barnacle, eventually.

The only real innovation since then, is that now we can have also persistent SS and POIs. That's why I prefer to hunt for them. At least they are somewhere.

I hope to be wrong, this time. But I doubt it.
Sorry to disappoint someone here but I doubt those mechanics are changed. There is nothing that lets me think it's different.

Although some of Michaels last posts hit me pretty hard, I still believe that the barnacles can be found in specific areas on the planets instead of completly random. Once we get/find more clues, it will be easier to track them down. Sure, they will remain pretty hard to find, but currently it is just pure luck to find one, which is fine for awhile, but sometime you want to see some progress and narrow the search, otherwise you'll get bored or frustrated.

For me, I left Merope now, randomly searching for interesting places on planets with higher g and temperature, because for me these are the last two ingame hints left..
Meanwhile checking GalNet for something popping up.

Besides.. where the heck is Palin?? On Dec., 23. he said everything is running fine and the base will be up within a week, the CG ended Jan., 1st, now its the 13th.. He is suspiciously late.. or is he checking each evacuation shelter by himself?

My theory......

Michael said:

"Nebulae are good places to look, especially the one with the seven sisters in it."
"And to those asking why nebulae - it's quite logical if you think about it :)"

"they are generated in certain areas of space."
"You are guaranteed to find them if you are in the right location."
---------------------------------------------------
Hmm, the one that pulls at me the most out of all his statements, is the one where he says, its quite logical for them to be in nebulae. I'm thinking to myself, what have I found in/around nebulae so far that I haven't found many other places... BLACKHOLES.

How thoroughly have we scoured the bodies near the black holes?

I'm going to start in MAIA, the one in HR 1185 could use some looking over too.

Allright...

I have been sitting on Merope 1 A landed for 2 hours now, waiting for the full eclipse, the fog and... barnabies or whatever they are called.
So it get's dark, I start my engines to check POIs at 2 km height, but all of a sudden it puts me up to 112 km with "A permit is required to land here"!?! WTB?

Even stranger, because 1 hour ago I did the same, just going straight up with landing gear deployed and straight down again?!?

Going to try again now, because if I read it right and its not just a complete bug, something might have been triggered somewhere... ;)

(Hope dies last!)

INB4 Barnacles are only there at certain times and it kicks everyone off the planet to spawn them / they're on that planet but we cannot find them until more time has passed for Frontier to work out bugs with Barnacle Seeds.

OMG I had a BARNACLE IN SIGHT WHEN IT CRASHED....

I have no idea where I was as I just ran from pirates in the blockade - so MB - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put me right back where I was, sitting right in front of the barnacles in Pleiades. Thanks in advance!!!

Screenshot or it didn't happen.

At least say what planet you were on or describe them.

I love Pleione 6 :)
Such a good place for old Thargoid stuf.

Were you in the SRV?
Yes. I was. After logging in I had a look around, but of course there was nothing. Then I recalled my ship, and upon engaging supercruise I got kicked out of the game, which made me very, very sad.

Hear that Michael, I'm sad! Because of your barnacles! ;-)

I highly, HIGHLY, recommend people do not look into the strange behaviour going on right now as anything to do with barnacles. No matter what unusual things you see or hear, it is nothing but server issues. Come back later when it has been rectified. We already have enough mad theories without actual, technical difficulties adding more.

As someone who works in IT, this is EXACTLY the reason we look into this behaviour.

- Something that hasn't been seen before, followed by random crashes? Yeah, that warrants investigation, although not by us.

I'll post this link again to the spreadsheet listing all the landables in the seven sisters and the nebula. Tomorrow I'll change some of the colouring to reflect the sisters in the nebula. I'll also try to document the makeup and volatility of them.

The real kick in the plums about this spreadsheet is that I've almost certainly flown right past what we're looking for
