I park my Asp in Obsidian and go to sleep. Wake up to find barnacles found. Ooh yeah. They sound creepy.

Once I have time to edit, just made some video with an interesting glitch around the barnacle. Tried to fly close to ground over it with landing gear retracted and I received "landing successful" about 70m from the ground.... was able to dploy the buggy from there, and it just fell to the actual floor...

Here's a 4 min sample of the sound. There doesnt appear to be much in the stereo image, and its a very dynamic signal. So I've applied some compression and bounced in mono. Let me know if a natural stereo recording is needed.

Yes, please. Stereo, no compression, just the raw audio as a .wav would be greatly appreciated.

Everyone keeps suggesting this but let me just point out the ridiculously obvious again.

We found thousands of giant "arrows" in a shell pointing at merope. So we go to merope, search, find barnacles. Technically, the UA and the barnacles do have at least that much to do with each other. It's obvious.

Atleast now we know what they look like, but I dont know what I would do if I stubled on this thing..
Do I shoot it, scan it? And when u get the Meta-Alloys, do we sell them?

Ok, so some more speculation for you guys. I'm thinking the Barnacles aren't a life form per se, but are in fact a bio mechanical mining operation. The spikes follow a similar pattern to the mining rigs we've seen artificially created by whoever. I've only encountered one rare element from them so far which is Ytrium (excluding meta alloys) but is used for increased FSD Boost and Boosted Ammo.

Just Musings. I'm off to see if I can find a planet 23 lyrs from Maia not Merope as I was for 10 sodding minutes.

So I just grabbed a meta alloy and went to head over to obsidian only halfway to charge my frameshift locks, engines shut down and I landed apparently in orbit of the planet. Is this just a bug or what? and now I can't log in.

Yep I got my strange alloys mission back after accepting this but the reward has doubled to about 850,000 creds

News (at least reliable ones) considering Barnacles are regularly updated on the first page of this thread (the 1st three posts or so), so be sure to check it from there rather than adding up to the replies - this is already an huge thread. I guess it would be too much asked from people to keep from posting fairly vain replies.

EDIT TO ADD (in order not to expand this thread further than necessary):

While I was in Witch head nebula (some 200-300 LY from Pleiades) I encountered a medical convoy at Strong Signal Source. I didn't pay much attention to that since I was looking for UA. It was a Python with couple escorts. However, before I Frameshifted away, I noticed few lines on the comms which didn't mean a lot then, but now that someone mentioned medical convoys somewhere (cannot recall where) I began to regret I didn't stay longer tailing the convoy.

The convoy Python announced something to these lines: "Cargo secured, I think..." suggesting that something was going on? Has anyone else found such a convoy? If not, and in case they might be relevant considering barnipples, I might be returning that system.

I think the barnacle is a barnacle. It takes raw ingredients from the planet and digests it into MAs.

pleiades sector gw-w c1-3 is 23ly away, it has a binary planets... neither of them are landable, but each have many landable moons.

pleiades sector lx-t b3-0 is 23 ly away , has 2 landable planets.
