Make of that what you will. I am not convinced that the POI mechanic is bug free at the moment though after having flown around with resource monitors open.

Hello fellow commanders.

1st post in this thread, I was at the Barnacle
PLEIADES SECTOR JC-U B3-2 - first planet, coordinates: 21.33 - 91.98 (this of course is already known...)

But some hundred meters north of there at 21.50 - 91.92 is an illuminated automatic mining installation. I found that strange. Is this known or of any importance?

Could be coincidence, but I found one close to Barnies too. But with so many commanders out there, there are bound to be some random spawns of regular POI close to the Barnies I think.

The significance depends on a factor, which we are not sure on as far as I know.

If the regular random POIs have a certain set of rules to spawn, then mining stations spawning near the barnacles can indicate these sites are indeed good for mining. I don't really know if the game checks for something like this when it spawns the POIs so I can't make an informed guess on that.

I found that one yesterday as wel.... Though the poi was different on this one.... Very small blue circle.... Blowed up ..... Nothing worth inside it trust me.... Wasted my time on it

You are both right, it was just a random spawn. I'm sorry - I should have ended the game and restart again to check before posting. Now it is gone, only the Barnacle is present. Kind of breaks the illusion of a real world for me. Thanks beelzeblub and Cynaqq!

G'day, nope don't worry you are not going mad or having dreams, you must have seen my earlier post where I was using the heart nebula as an example, sorry to alarm you. There have been no confirmed barnacles in the heart/soul nebulae, as of yet...

As usual when there's work to be done Palin is strangely silent.

Sirius said we found the Antares but not where it was found so one (or more) of the systems we searched for the CG. :(

I think someone already answered your barnacle question.

Greetings! First of all, english isn't my native language, so thanks in advance for being patient with me.
With interest I'm following this thread since the barnacles have been discovered. Unfortunately I cannot land on planets and search by myself while, lets say, my SRV is too old and did not pass the MOT.
Here are my two cents and sorry if it has been mentioned already.


- Regarding the symbol on the barnacles I also hold the opinion, that it represents the Barnard's loop looked from behind, towards Sol (roughly). It somehow looks like a person from top, trying to catch a ball. The arms of the person fit quite well to Barnard's loop, the head of the person could be Orion inline with Pleiades, Flame ,Running man and Horsehead nebulae. The question is.... which location is represented by the 'ball' and what can we find there? Could be Witchhead nebula as mentioned before, but the shape of the 'ball' does not fit very well to it.
- Assuming the symbol on barnacles is some kind of a map from an alien species (friendly or not), I do not think it will tell us where they are from. What could they get out of it? Even mankind isn't so stupid to invite aliens to their home planet earth - why should aliens do so? Ok, maybe they are bored (very). In my opinion the symbol (the map) could serve a different purpose.
- I too think that barnacles and UAs are from the same alien species and 'work together' somehow. Maybe UAs are born of the barnacles and spit out to space by them. That seems plausible to me. Single UAs obviously collect information (maybe not only) about ships. A shell of UAs (around Merope) could act as kind of range extender for information which is send out, or orders which are received. Do we know where the opening of the shell is pointing to?
- Regarding the damage that UAs do to our ships and stations I don't think that necessarily means the alien species is hostile. Just speculation. A flu could be quite deadly to the alien species, but without knowing about that, somebody could infect them on first friendly contact. The aliens also might think we intentionally attacked them with bioweapons.

This site have nothing special, I encountered plenty before the apparition of our bronacles

Yes, we are stupid enough to advertise our location, in fact in a very "Come over here" sort of way. If "they" have any sense, there's already a "Do Not Land, Quarantine, For the sake of your family of 6 million, Stay Away" Buoy in orbit around Pluto...

I found some on merope 5c too (post #7321), also found sentry guarded nav beacon thing with RF-78 written on it containing only public data before realising i wasn't at the correct co-ordinates. eventually found the barnacles though :) - (was done in SOLO too as i've read about people getting blown up for no apparent reason).

I'm very interesterd how the story will devolop in the future. I'm in Pleione currently, but I'm searching a new target, maybe the taurus dark nebula ;)

I'm quite sure that the Anatres-incident have something to do with the UAs/Barnacles - also the opening of Palin's new station will reveal something new. I'm also very confused about the nav beacons which have been found several thousand LJs away from the bubble. Questions about questions

The only problem is that that nebula does not have stars inside it. But we know that being exactly inside a nebula is no more e requisite for a Barnacle to exist. ;)

I wasn't thinking about Taurus itself, rather up and beyond it. (or down into the Aries sectors).
And it doesn't have to be barnacles there. Perhaps something 'else'. I don't know.
Besides, more spokes / axis is also a possibility. But then again, we need to find something.
