UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

From my perspective I want things to be discovered rather than announced. That can't always be avoided - especially with people nosing through game files! Sometimes a nudge is needed to move things along, but I'd like to keep that to a minimum.

Michael

Hmm but atm i think over 70% of all guys here (including me) stop searching because there is no further hint.
Searching for aliens is good but there are so many planets and nebulae... it´s like to look for a needle in a haystack.

And i won´t take part of the current CG because of the Barnacles spawn bug...

We test as far as we can and didn't see those issues here - unfortunately some issues only come to light in the wild.

Michael

Thank you for responding Michael, I think most understand bugs can slip through the net, it was quite deflating for some to think they may well have wasted quite a few hours looking for something that does not appear.

It was suggested by a few commanders that you could replace 'secret' content with a common artifact and ask us to test that, then once confirmed bug free switch for the 'secret' on release :)

Thanks again and lets hope the next big thing goes smoothly :)

I think that is exactly the sort of thing that would encourage people to ask for more hints.

Thats when he should remain quiet :) But knowing that the gameplay is in place is something else.

I think that the storyline for the barnacles has been great, but it has to be fully formed and go at the pace of the people that are taking part. All the hints should be there and the storyline should be ready to go through to the end. If it's not then it shouldn't have been started. Making vague hints that send people off across the universe on wild goose chases may fill in time but it's really kind of empty gameplay.

Yes, it's a CG.

IMHO, it is not possible to do that right now. Obsidian Orbital has been likely a unique case, needed to bring the story forward, so that now we can have the CG and Palin to research the Barnacles.
What will come next, is probably a Palin's breakthrough about the Barnacles, and a new huge CG next, to heal all the stations once and for all.

Good point, lets do this!!

Ow, wait, im on Xbox, can't help guys.. But, plz, hurry up!

*looking at FDev* >.> :D (<----- Fdev)

So, taking meta-alloys to Obsidian Orbital is now a community goal?

Hmmm. Still not inclined to take part, since it involves attacking an organic lifeform, which may be sentient.

Plus, I can never find any. But mostly because it's a lifeform..

It's much more likely that it's an organically grown machine with no sentience...

Also .. wife distracted me and I lost control of the orca and plowed it into a mountain at full speed and boom.. Lost all the meta alloys I had on board and back in the bubble..

I'm pretty sure whoever made them won't be happy that we're shooting them to bits, but we don't have much choice in terms of progressing the story forward.

Also I don't think they're sentient, just a form of bio-mechanical technology.

Lol I'll just eat popcorn and play rust for now

Good

Michael:

Have you considered some sort of signal to indicate that there is something else to be discovered?
I think this community could benefit from a simple confirmation that there is more to the UA story - or any story that warrants our efforts, rather than wonder if our time is being wasted.

An example:

You have a stickied post which you update:

Unknown Discoveries (Total Easter Eggs): Yes
Antares Story: No
UA story: Yes
Barnacles/Metal Alloys: No

etc...

No, no and just no :D

What would this bring to the game other than giving people who can't be bothered to do anything unless they know they're going to get rewarded for it, some kind of impetus to play the game? Michael has also said earlier in this thread that the Barnacles are just part of the story, not the solution, do you need more than that?

Maybe I'm wrong, but what exactly are you all taking part in this enterprise for exactly? I haven't taken part in the whole of the UA affair, but I've been watching it from the beginning (mainly for the hilarity of the threads) The thing that strikes me the most is that since Horizons has been released and newer players have joined the game and more have been enticed by the Barnacles, the amount of help and clearly defined guidelines that have been requested has gone up massively. It's not just here, in fact it is more obvious in the last couple of Treasure Hunts that have taken place. The thing I personally enjoy most about the Treasure Hunts and this endeavour is the hunt and batting ideas around each other trying to come up with possible solutions with which we can solve or advance the story.

I think that's a massive over estimate.

Hehe, so you want him to tell you there is something coded into the game to find, unless there is something to find, in which case you want him to be quite... ... Maybe you already have you're wish :p

Still unsure of why people are trying morse code... there doesn't seem to be any long or short tones between purrs.
Am I missing something?
The notes between the purrs/rumbles are of equal length and at notes B, C, C#. Suggesting a code based on 3 as opposed to 2.

Perhaps she's trying to sabotage you.

Are you sure she's not a Thargoid agent?

After all according to lore all Thargoids are female.

I'M NOT BEING PARANOID!!!

Maybe... maybe not. I know a lot of CMDR which stop searching! They always asking what´s next... where should we go now. Why there is no further hint from FD to keep the story running and so on...

Ahh but the thing with treasure hunts is that you know theres something to hunt for.

Lets say you have a 1000 acre park here on earth. And you hide a £1000 bar of gold on the park and tell people it's there. You would get a huge response and lots of people looking. Imagine what would happen after these people had been looking for a week digging up the whole park and you said.. actually there's nothing there? Quite a few angry people.

Imagine another scenario.. There's a park with nothing there. How many people do you get searching the park just randomly incase there's something there? Well there's metal detectorists but they are few and far between.

This might have been done before but...

Has anyone tried overlapping both the UA and Barnacle sounds? Both soundtracks could be two pieces of a puzzle.

For example, do the tuba sounds on the UAs and the Barnacle happen at the exact same intervals? Maybe they actually complete some kind of "tune". I studied music for over 8 years, so I will be listening to these and trying to determine the notes (I studied piano though, so my ear isn't quite trained for something like a tuba) XD

I would love to know if anyone has tried overlapping these sounds on top of each other and listening to them at the same time as one track.

Then I fear you have misunderstood how some of the things are done in this game, just because the story doesn't run at the pace you want it to, doesn't mean it's not running :)

I think we're in danger of derailing this thread so maybe we should park this one here (I'm not even going to apologise for that pun), but you're first example is a Scavenger Hunt, not a Treasure Hunt and the end of it is not the same as what is happening in this thread. The second scenario I don't really understand the relevance of :D
