My conda with 6d thruster hover with no problem at all on the 9.77 planet:) Since the thrusters counter the gravity if they can I dont think there is a planet where you can manually hover but the fa on cant? havent tested this since I havent found a "perfect" g planet wich is immensly hard.

You're quite correct. FA off kept me hovering fine on that 9.77g world on a 5D thruster Anaconda. You can take off with them alone as well without needing to boost right off the ground or anything like that. FA can't make your thrusters work at more than maximum anyway, so, manual or FA, you can either hover or you can't. I have yet to see a planet where you can't though.

The statement that you have to counter the gravity manually on 6g+ is proven to be false. Easily testable on both Achenar 3 and that 9.77g world I can only remember as HD somenumber :)

HD 148937 3 Is the 9.77g planet:) And wish I had tried with 5d on my conda, but like you say have not seen any edvidence of someone not being abel to hover. One of the vids I saw that said that was simple pilot error.

Landing there did not help me remember the name :D My brain just refuses. Anyway, I don't think you'd have seen much of a difference between 5D and 6D on a conda. Maybe a bit slower to take off with 5D's, but nothing to write home about. The real difference will be a world where 5D's just don't let you hover and take off anymore, whereas 6D's do. Don't think one like that has been found, though.

Yeah you are probably right:) the 6d might stop falling a bit faster aswell if you make a mistake on a high G but making a mistake is probably still gonna cost you dearly if the gravity is high enough;)

The way it's implemented in game the thrusters have a minimum thrust level that will always provide enough vertical thrust to get you off the ground (by magic) even if they shouldnt given thier optimal mass and the gravity of the world you are on - something lie +5m/s2 iirc.

All other thrusters produce a more realistic amount of thrust, which is why you'll notice when you are nose down, banked or inverted you don't retain height like you would with the underside thrusters (up thrust).

where more powerful thrusters will be of benefit is in stopping descent faster, however this can be hard to notice, especially in large ships as at high g's the distance to stop any downward momentum can be huge - read greater than the height you are above the ground.

i'll try and dig out the threads with all the research that others have done....

Strange tho. With my Anaconda 6 D thrusters And empty cargo hold FA couldn't even hover for me on Achenar.. that's why I set it to 6G+ as I know for some ppl the were still able to hover there.

I wonder what all the rules are for you max FA thrust strength.

I am very curious about what the flight model will be like if we can get up close to / enter gas giants. I've seen them with gravity as high as 15G and I'm sure they must go much higher. If there ever are any kind of low "floating"/orbiting outposts in the upper reaches of gas giants, they're going to be interesting to land on!

VERY close to NGC now. I found a black hole on the way, so that's pretty cool. Here's a screen:

17 Ly jump range club Maia Black Hole.png WOOT W00T!!11!

only thing I am wondering is if it is still possible to sign up, and if you'll get accepted even though you're far behind
and do you need Horizons for this, or is it an option?

no worries, english isn't my best side either, at least you can speak english (there are people who can't, but I don't blame them)

A word of caution to everybody here: hovering in high G works well, BUT it's very dangerous trying to climb up again in order to find a better landing spot in the vicinity. Once you thrust up at a significant speed, and you stop the upthrust, on FA on your thrusters will overcompensate, which in turn will make you plummet to the ground. Received two rebuys in my Conda when testing on Achenar 3. This might work better with analog controls, but I'm now really cautious in these cases.
Posted a bug report, but have never seen a response from FD.
When trying to move to a different landing sport, I recommend climbing higher than 4 kms before you descend again. This way you have more time to stop the plummeting with your main thrusters while pointing upwards with your ship's nose.

Yep, I wiggled myself back up at 9.77g with a slight roll (max 15 degrees or bad things happen) and push up with sideways thrusters, until I had enough clearance to raise the nose 15 degrees without the back hitting the ground. (Anaconda is pretty long) then fly up like a plane on main thrusters.
And really on 9.77g 4km is not enough to release vertical thrusters, 10km was not enough for me when briefly losing input to vertical thrusters. FA send me down at 300 m/s. By the time the bottom engines were spooled up far enough to start slowing me down I was already past the 9km stopping distance for 300 m/s.

If you lost the SRV due to the spontaneous SRV combustion bug, support will offer to send you to a station of your choosing to restock, then send you back to your original location when done.

I was thinking that when this expedition is done, we should take advantage of residual interest and have a CG to send Jaques's Station out as a waypoint along the way.

Since I was only 2kly out of the bubble I back tracked to HD 148937 to try out the 9.77g as my previous comments were only based on Achenar 3 6.7g.

I managed to land like a plane, no visible shield damage. 5 degrees down pitch was fine as long as my throttle was centred in the blue zone or lower - speed was controlled. At full throttle 5 degrees pitch did see gradual continuous speed increase.

I could take off with full forward thrust and just pull back on the stick. But like you said the main difference I noticed between 6.7 and 9.7g was I could not go vertical. Even with boost my speed drop off was too high and would have not ended well. I managed 20-30 degrees up pitch without boosting and once out of mass lock could go to SC. I waited until it said align with dest before pulling up to escape vector and boosting.

That was in my D-spec Cobra mk4 rather than my 5D thruster Conda, but when comparing the two previously I haven't really found the basic behaviour on Achenar 3 to be significantly different.

It was interesting to see the difference between 6.7g and 9.7g. I think I'll probably avoid >2g worlds for the rest of the trip unless they have something really interesting to visit. It is just too much of a risk if you make a small mistake.

Interesting. The Cobra MK4 has twice the reverse thrust as the Conda so FA can keep it controlled. The Conda starts picking up speed at -5 degrees with engines at zero, FA can't slow the ship down. I have not tried to see where it balances out with conda at max reverse thrust, probably no difference as FA was already firing them at max trying to stop me.

After all the kerfuffle over the Cobra Mk4, are we finding more things that it's especially good at compared to the Mk3?

Livestreaming my personal DW expedition:

http://www.twitch.tv/dudefromfinland

Bad language warning, as english isnt my native language. :D

Well that was fun. That was my first ever livestream with english commentary, never done that before. Even had 4 viewers at the best. :D
Too bad Shadowplay cant livestream and record at the same time so i cant upload it to Youtube.. (or if it can, i dont know about it)

Probably will do another livestream in few hours. :)

I was one of them, but streaming during work hours isn't going to get many views. Was fun for what I watched! Enjoyed the finnish accent.

Also, twitch has archiving, enable it and your streams will be available to share and watch

Ok, thanks for the info. I was thinking of installing XSplit again and using that for recording and Shadowplay for streaming but thats just too much to handle i think.
Ill look into that archiving. :)

I actually just tested the streaming how it goes, i know it was working hours on most parts in EU, but as i said, i probably will do another stream at the evening.

So, even more bad accent to come! :D
