It would to me, if only for the thrill of the hunt!Just imagine playing Counterstrike in an arena that was several tens of miles across, do you think that would be very enjoyable?
But, that's me.

You know what else real life has? Prison. Real consequences for breaking the law. This game does not have that.I like that story but I think at the end instead of running to solo you should have gone to a different system.
Sometimes you don't get a fair fight in life. Sometimes some random will punch you in the back of the head, sometimes you'll be knocked to the ground and you'll have one person kicking the side of your head in while another one is basically on top of you just punching your face in and after the fact you might think to yourself "that's not fair! If it had been one on one and I had seen them coming, I would have kicked the crap out of them!" but that's life at the end of the day.
The game is at its best when you have lucky escapes and close calls. When the unexpected happens and you have to adapt to a changing situation, roll with the punches, fight against the odds or run and live to fight another day. PVP allows for this.
The only thing I disagree with is people camping starter systems and killing people in Sidewinders. There really ought to be a bubble of relatively safe, high security systems around starter systems where player killing is virtually unheard of and when it does happen it's a shock to one and all.
Hmm, i'm sorry as i just can't go through all 24 pages of this thread...
I'll just ask one thing though. Generally, outside of FD, who adds any kind of emergent gameplay into this game? Anything aside from the general grind-mechanics or mind-numbingly boring CGs?
I mean, i barely get a 'hello' from any CMDR when i send a salute or a 'yo!'. I appreciate you play your own game, but hey, some kind of interaction?
PVP groups, if anything, have brought controversy, got people talking, fuming even... blockades, Galnet articles... carefully thought out macros blipping 'Arrrrrs' and more into your comms.
Real players trying to bring some drama into this game and add, at least, some kind of content, albeit restricted in its current form.
Anyways, i know that many of the larger groups are growing tired... looking at pastures new, possibly.. It'd be a shame for the Elite universe to lose the likes of The Code, our 'friends' the BBfA, RoA, SDC...
Like them or not, at least player groups are trying to add something to the game. In its most diluted form, this game still really doesn't offer up enough for players to do and the general mechanics, 'missions', NPC chatter and whatnot is still all too familiar to hardened and long-time players such as myself.
This game needs some much needed life and that life is only really gonna come from real players and the way i see it it's mainly PVP groups that actually try and inject this into the game.
not YET, but we're heading for a police clan. You know what else real life has? Prison. Real consequences for breaking the law. This game does not have that.
Blabla noble pvp blabla not killing noob blabla
What if I want to kill a Cobra ? or a T6 ?
This is a valid gameplay, and this game is Elite : => Dangerous <=
By killing a noob in a Cobra, I make him a favor, he will learn the game quicker.
I had a newbie interdicting my Vulture... WITH A SIDEY...When I first read this, I found it quite disagreeable and abrasive.
After thinking about, you do have a point. I don't think I've ever played an multiplayer game where "noobs" didn't get crushed.
In this game, you may actually be doing them a favor by introducing them to the "insurance" system while they are flying a relatively worthless ship.
Better to learn it early than realizing you don't have the credits to buy back your shiny, new multi-million dollar ship.
Because it is a game, and it is supposed to be fun and challenging? or at least that's the kind of games I enjoy?Humans by definition are cowards.
Ever seen Kings battle?
Or your beloved president?
THEY stay away, let other suckers do their bidding, right?
Most if they shoot an opponent close their eyes.
True "bravery" there.
Humans ALWAYS gang up, just see street violence.
It's near ALWAYS multiple ganging up on a single individual.
Humanities most prized form of combat.
Thus, why would this be any different in ED?

Whilst I can see your point and agree to a fair extent the relatively low cost Cobra is only low cost when you have millions, at the point where you are a new pllayer just reaching that stage it can still be quite an investment to loose.

Well, since ED isn't changing, we have to.Yes, every act of random violence is always punished and no one ever gets away with committing a crime.
But anyways, I'm all for a revamped crime and punishment system with much higher player bounties, persistent bounties and giving cmdrs tools to track down wanted targets which would not only allow for more PvP but will also mean there would be consequences for those who go on rampages. The point is that's the answer, not solo or group play.

Spend some time reading the previous pages and the answers will present themselves to ALL the points you have made here
Honestly, what we really want is more incentive to PVP. We want you non-PVPer's to come PVP us, and come to the realization PVP is actually REALLY fun. Right now we are just a bunch of 'space salt miners' versus a bunch of scrubs who can hardly survive against overpowered NPC's. Get better at piloting and give us a challenge. That's what we want. There's no incentive to taking us down or becoming a better pilot. We refrain from killing "harmless and mostly harmless" players, but most players hardly even fly a cobra. If you don't want to PVP just fly only cobras...its a waste of our time to chase you.
There are other types who play open.Only those that are like me: too thickheaded to go to Solo play.
And newcomers, sadly...
I've asked elsewhere why PvP-oriented players don't just set up an inverted Mobius.
No one answered.
I have replied to this before reading further into the thread, so apologies is this is raised else where..
PvP is probably fun IF you like PvP.. in the same way as eating Jalapenos is enjoyable for those that like them... if you don't then you don't.. the end.
I personally dislike PvP and tend to get annoyed that many good games have issues from PvP that bleed over into PvE, its not the presence of PvP in an of itself, but the fact that games get changed to accommodate PvP which then have knock on effects on PvE..
No matter how much you WANT me to come over and join PvP mass battles, one on one, wing v wing, fleet v fleet whatever.. I'm not interested.. I'm sure there are many that also are not.. I'm sure there ARE in fact many that do, or will enjoy PvP once they have their feet and are settled or have achieved their personal goals first or whatever...
I personally have ZERO desire to "get better and give you a challenge" I do not want to PvP.. getting this yet? YOU may refrain from killing mostly harmless or other lower combat ranked players.. but some do not, this is where the griefer title comes in (for me at least) So many people are interdicted and attacked with no provocation and with no real point (not doing it for bounty/cargo etc, just to PvP) this is why a lot of folk are probably scared off..
I'm happy for the game to include player factions/groups whatever, I'm happy for you to go about your fleet battles/wing battles etc whatever.. But too many folk FORCE the PvP element on players and this discourages them from playing/getting involved or whatever..
Yes yes, play in open you run that risk, fair enough and every time a player interdicts me, ill do my best to get the hell out... I don't care if you are in a d/e class sidewinder with the flying skill of a cucumber, I'm not interested in fighting you.. but don't be surprised that not everyone isn't all, "hey you interdicted me, screw whatever it was I planned on doing tonight, lets fight".
I'm summary, have your PvP have your player groups (I'm sure PvE ones will pop up if they add them), have your wars etc, but if someone doesn't LIKE PvP they wont no matter how much you WANT them to...
Oh lastly, thank you for telling me to only fly Cobra's... that's REALLY going to get the PvE crowd on side..
Because it is a game, and it is supposed to be fun and challenging? or at least that's the kind of games I enjoy?
It is quite fun, when you realize that a lot of griefers and such use exactly that as an excuse, "It is just a game!" when people get upset by their actions, yet it is them that are ganging up and whatnot, only attacking targets with no chance, so yeah...
Oh yes, but they are either also PvP liking, OR just too thickheaded to go either Mobius or Solo. XDThere are other types who play open.
Role players , Defenders of inocent (like me) bounty hunters , powerplayers (some) pirates , killers , and social players (at least were I hang out)
